What's going on, guys?
2
Balkan Architect here, and in today's video, we're going to be talking about a topic that you have requested quite a lot lately,
3
and that is plumbing for a simple bathroom.
4
So that's what I'm going to be doing in this video.
5
I'm going to be showing you how to set up the plumbing just for a simple bathroom,
6
how to connect everything up and just make everything work.
7
Now, if you want to learn more about plumbing in Revit,
8
I have actually created quite a complex course that covers pretty much everything that you need to know about plumbing in Revit.
9
It's available on my website, balkanarchitect .com, and it's going to be the first link just below the video in the description.
10
So make sure to check it out if you want to learn plumbing in depth, step by step, all of the tools explained slowly.
11
So if you're interested to check that out.
12
Also, before we start, make sure to like this video.
13
It helps me out a lot, and it helps share the video to other users that might want to see it.
14
And finally, make sure to subscribe because I make useful Revit tutorials each week and it makes sense not to miss them.
15
So make sure to subscribe.
16
Anyways, without any further ado, let's get straight into Revit.
17
And here we are in Revit.
18
So let's get started by going here to models, then going to new.
19
And for the template file, I'm actually going to go with my architecture design template.
20
Now, I know what you might be thinking doesn't
21
it make more sense to go with some sort of a plumbing template
22
and yes it does
23
but before we can go to plumbing we have to create an architecture model that's going to include our bathroom
24
and all the fixtures in that bathroom
25
and then we can connect those with our plumbing systems
26
so i'm just going to use my architecture design template now
27
if you're interested in checking out my templates
28
you can find them both on my website balkanarctic .com that's going to be the third link in the description
29
so check that out if you're interested anyways let's just click okay
30
and let's let revit start right up
31
so as soon as revit starts up i'm simply going to go here into the level one floor plan
32
and let's just create a simple room for our bathroom so i'm simply going to go here to the wall tool,
33
and I'm going to choose this interior bearing wall just because it has a little bit of thickness to that.
34
I'm going to go to the rectangle tool, and then let's create a simple rectangle like so.
35
Also, it makes sense to add some sort of a floor.
36
So let's go to the floor tool, and then here for the floor type, I'm just going to use the interior tile floor,
37
and I'm going to use the rectangle tool again
38
and create a simple rectangle like so hit finish and as you can see we have those nice tiles
39
okay now it's time to start inserting some plumbing fixtures
40
now for the plumbing fixtures what I'm going to be using is going to be the BIM project plugin
41
that well it's a cloud -based library where you can access families straight from the manufacturers these are really nice quality families.
42
And the reason why I especially like them is because they do include all of the necessary connectors for the plumbing families.
43
Now, don't worry, if you don't know what connectors are, you are going to learn in this video.
44
But this is something that's quite important for setting up the plumbing.
45
And these plumbing families that we have here actually all have those important connectors.
46
Now, if you're interested in getting this plugin and having access to all of these families,
47
it's completely free, and I'm just going to be leaving a link in the description just below the video, so check it out if you're interested.
48
There's quite a bit of nice families to find.
49
Anyways, I'm going to go straight here to showers.
50
Let's start off with a simple shower.
51
Let's see, this one looks kind of nice and elegant.
52
So here you have the option to request properties and play around with the dimensions.
53
I'm very happy with this one, so I'm just going to select that one and go to add to project.
54
Now, as soon as I click that, we have the option to create this family or to load this family.
55
Now, only modification that I'm going to be making is going to be here to perhaps shorten the name a little bit.
56
I'm annoyed when they have a long name
57
so that's what i'm going to change and then here you can choose
58
which parameters you want to include and which you don't want to include
59
so uh if you
60
if you want to kind of uh not have some uh parameters loaded in at this stage
61
you can just check them off
62
and then obviously at any point later on you can add them back in anyways
63
i'm just going to click continue
64
and that's going to add this shower stall to my project
65
so we just have to wait for a few seconds for that family to load and to be Well,
66
download it from the cloud and load it into our Revit project.
67
Now, here it is.
68
I'm just going to hit the space key and place it here in this corner.
69
Click just like that.
70
Hit the escape a couple of times.
71
And then here below, I'm just going to change the detail level to fine.
72
And now we can see there we go.
73
We have the shower stall.
74
And remember that I said that connectors are important.
75
These are the connectors.
76
See, it says create pipe.
77
So it has the ability to attach a 15 millimeter pipe, a sanitary pipe, and that's why these families are so important.
78
Okay, let's move forward.
79
I want to add some more elements.
80
So the next one is going to be the wash basin.
81
So let's see.
82
Let's search for something that's going to look nice.
83
Perhaps I'm going to use not that one, but this one seems elegant enough off
84
so let's go to add to project again it's going to give us all the parameters
85
that are available you can check them on or off as you will
86
or as you wish
87
and let's let it load in as well
88
it's really good to have kind of access to this library
89
even though the families aren't loaded in you can just load them in real quickly
90
so I'm just going to place that here
91
and yeah let's just place it like so escape a couple of times
92
and then also make sure to select it
93
and give it a proper elevation
94
so i'm just going to place it at 90 centimeters
95
and i do suggest
96
you always go to the default 3d view just to double check what everything looks like in 3d
97
because sometimes it might look good in a floor plan
98
but then when you go to 3d it looks well off uh also for this uh now
99
for this sink you can see
100
that here we have a pipe for the sanitary pipe a 50 millimeter out
101
but we do have to have some sort of vein in for the faucet both cold
102
and hot water so we have to include the faucet as well
103
so let me go back here find faucets
104
and as you can see we have many different choices i'm just going to go with something quite simple
105
and elegant i like this one at the project so let's add
106
that one in as well okay here you can see the faucet
107
now i'm just going to place it like this on the ground
108
and then let me select it and give it
109
that 90 centimeter offset
110
and then we can just go to the floor plan view to set it up in the correct place
111
and here you can see that we have that cold
112
and hot water in so that's why the faucet was
113
so important also moving forward let's add the toilet
114
so i'm going to add this one just include
115
that one in the project as well
116
and here i'm going to place it on this wall just like
117
so select it and then for the elevation
118
or the offset i'm going to add 40 centimeters and if i go to the 3d view
119
yeah this is what that looks like
120
and also as you can see it has the 100 millimeter out
121
and a 15 millimeter in for those connectors so that's important as well
122
and finally for the shower
123
we need some sort of a in for the shower some sort of a connector there
124
so for that I'm going to go here to shower systems
125
and I'm going to choose one of these for example this one add to project
126
and let's continue and add that one as well
127
and once it's loaded in let's place
128
it here let's give it an elevation of let's go with 90 as well
129
and then finally here in level one we should probably attach
130
it to the wall again go to the 3d view just to double check here in level one
131
I think it's a little bit oops I think it's a little bit off
132
so I'm going to try to kind of attach it there just to make it centered
133
and there we go
134
so for this one again we have the ins we have the out for the shower so now
135
that our bathroom is pretty much complete i'm just going to make it a little bit shorter like
136
so go into a level one and perhaps let's add a door there
137
that would be nice
138
so let's add just a simple door here i'm going to go with an 80 centimeter door just like so.
139
So there we go.
140
Our little bathroom is now completed and now we can start playing around with plumbing.
141
And now it's time to model the actual plumbing.
142
So what I'm going to do is go here to models and then go to you.
143
And in this case, I'm just going to be using the default plumbing template
144
that comes with Revit just because it has some of the settings and the piping and routing preferences and all of that,
145
which is quite useful to get started.
146
And I talk a lot more about this in the actual plumbing course.
147
Now we have to load in our architectural model.
148
So you want to go here to the insert tab
149
and then you want to go to a link Revit and I have it here on my desktop.
150
Here we have the bathroom for plumbing.
151
I'm just going to hit open.
152
It's going to open that up.
153
Now here you'll notice that only the plumbing fixture will appear with regular dark black lines.
154
Everything else will be grayed out.
155
Now, a problem that we do have here is if we want to select one of these items, we have to use the tab key first.
156
And then even when we select, remember those connectors that I was showing you?
157
Well, they don't appear here.
158
The reason for that is this is still part of the linked model, so it doesn't appear.
159
But what you can do to kind of override
160
that is just come in here and select all of these plumbing items that we need.
161
So I'm just going to hover over the water closet here, right -click, or sorry, use the tab key to highlight it,
162
hold the control key to add the selection, and just repeat that process for the rest of these items.
163
Don't forget the faucet because it's important as well.
164
Now, once you select all of these, what you want to do next is go to the clipboard, copy that to clipboard, go to paste,
165
and then just align it at the same place.
166
Click okay.
167
And now, once it's done, if I select the sync here, you will see that now we have that connector,
168
and that's exactly what we want to see.
169
Okay, now it's time to, well, actually get started connecting everything.
170
So I like to do the plumbing first and then the sanitary system later.
171
So let me select first the faucet here, go to the hot water, for example.
172
And then if I want to pull it out like this, and if I click, it's going to say that it cannot be done.
173
Now, the reason for that is because this particular faucet wants that to be connected below.
174
So it wants a vertical pipe.
175
So what you want to do is just go here to the middle elevation
176
and set it to something lower like 800 millimeters.
177
And now when it goes down, it can be done.
178
Now we want to go into the wall a little bit, perhaps like that.
179
And then I'm just going to go off to the side here, just like so.
180
Now, once we have that, I want to connect my shower to that same hot water pipe.
181
So for that, that, what we can do is go here to the floor plan view, select that shower, let's see,
182
there we go, go to the hot water.
183
And if I just connect it like this, it's immediately going to create that solution.
184
See how it kind of added all of the elements there.
185
And now if I go perhaps here to find level of detail, now, as you can see, it's showing everything that it requires.
186
now if these pipes are a bit thin you can always go here
187
and change the diameter so
188
if I see this pipe is 25 I can perhaps set
189
this pipe to 25 as well now as you can see it connects properly
190
and then we can use a thin pipe for this one okay moving forward let's do the second one
191
so the cold water one again let's change the middle elevation
192
to something like let's go to 700 for this one again
193
go out a little bit a little bit less like so and then go off to here just like so
194
there we go i like doing things in 3d
195
because well revit has that power and i think it's useful to utilize utilize
196
that because well all of this plumbing is a lot easier to understand when you're working in 3D.
197
Anyways, let us go back now into the floor plan view.
198
Again, select the shower column, go here to the cold water in, and then just connect here.
199
And again, it's just going to do the same thing.
200
Again, we have a problem where this is thicker than this pipe here.
201
So let's just make this one bigger, just like so.
202
Perfect.
203
And then it just continues off.
204
Now here, we want to connect the water closet as well.
205
Also, for that, perhaps it makes sense to go again to the floor plan view, go to the in.
206
Oops.
207
Let's see.
208
Let's try that again.
209
Okay.
210
Yeah, we want the cold water connector.
211
There we go.
212
Connect.
213
And this is what that does.
214
So it connects it like this.
215
Now here, I think, again, this is thicker.
216
Yeah, this one's 15.
217
So we can increase this to 15. So there we go.
218
So the pipe goes from 25 to 15 and then finally to 10.
219
That's probably what it would look like in real life.
220
Okay, so we've managed to get the water to our fixtures.
221
Now it's time to take the water away by adding the sanitary system.
222
So I like to start off with the water closet.
223
So let's go here to the out.
224
And then really important here, you want to go to the piping and go to slope down.
225
So make sure that the pipes slope down.
226
I'm going to use the slope of two degrees.
227
And then go into the wall, obviously.
228
And then we can just go down a little bit.
229
So let's go to the middle elevation here and set this to minus 100.
230
Like so.
231
And then go all the way out.
232
Perfect.
233
See?
234
Okay.
235
Now let's connect the shower.
236
So the shower we can connect.
237
What I like to do is I like to see where that shower is.
238
So, for example, if I go here to this should be, let's see.
239
Okay, that should be this elevation.
240
Okay, zoom in and then you see the pipe here.
241
So I like to go to the measure tool and measure from the center of the shower. Is this the shower?
242
No. Okay, so from the center of the shower to here.
243
So that's 120 millimeters.
244
So what I'm going to do is go here to the 3D view or no, let's go to the floor plan view,
245
select the shower, and then we have this out and then let's go down to minus 110 perhaps.
246
And then you want to connect it.
247
Now, if it doesn't connect immediately, the problem is we don't see it.
248
Okay, it did connect.
249
There we go.
250
Perfect.
251
But it kind of went through.
252
We don't want that.
253
So let's go one step back let's see
254
so the problem is we cannot really see this pipe in the floor plan view
255
so in order to avoid
256
that we want to see it what we need to do is go here to the properties panel
257
and then go to view range go to edit
258
and just set it to unlimited at the bottom
259
and also at the view depth apply okay
260
and also let's switch this to find a level of detail there we go
261
and now finally when we select the shower we go to out again we set
262
that to minus let's go minus 110 and then we just attach it like
263
so perfect go to the 3d view this is what
264
that looks like see that's why we've measured
265
so we we can attach it at the similar elevation that's what we want it was 120
266
but we went to 110 just to give it a little bit more room for slope here
267
and then finally you want to attach this as well
268
so what I'm going to do is just select this pipe
269
and extend it up and it's just going to continue
270
that slope now a problem that arises here is the fact
271
that this now goes kind of like a bend
272
and it shouldn't be a bend it should be a t
273
so you just delete that and then you just extend this down
274
and you solve that problem
275
so for planning in Revit you'll see there is a lot of this little back
276
and forth to kind of connect everything
277
but in the end everything works out finally let's go to this out
278
we can go to the floor plan view go to that out
279
the middle elevation is 700 here so let's bring
280
that down to four oops not 4000 but 400 there we go
281
and then you can just go out like
282
that hit the escape a couple of times
283
and then what I like to do is go to the Modify tab and simply use
284
Trim and Extend to connect these two.
285
And this is what we get in the end.
286
Now, obviously, this isn't going to work for each bathroom, and you're probably going to have some rules, regulations, preferences, and so on.
287
And that's why I created that course where I can go in depth
288
for hours and explain all of the possibilities and all of the methods
289
that you can use in order to well get everything not only to work
290
but to correspond to your regulation and also to kind of work with the design
291
but this was kind of a quick demonstration of how to
292
connect all the items on a simple bathroom such as we have over here
293
so i hope you have enjoyed this video i hope
294
you have learned something new as i said please check out the course
295
it will be the first link in the description uh check out my patreon page
296
that will be the second link in the description and also
297
if you want to check out the bim project dot cloud check
298
that out as well it's a free plugin it allows you to use all these useful families
299
so that link will be included in the description as well okay so without any thing else to do.
300
Thank you for watching.
301
Make sure to comment, like, and share this video.
302
Make sure to subscribe, and I'll be back with another Balkan Architect tutorial in a couple of days.
