17
that side of the story We chose to stay at the Palacio del Inca,
18
a historic mansion built on Inca and Tipple ruins,
19
and now it's a hotel conveniently located near Cusco's main attraction.
20
Since Cusco is over 11,000 feet above sea level,
21
we took it easy on arrival day to acclimate and avoid altitude sickness.
22
Our first day in Cusco was a blast.
23
After starting the morning with cocoa tea and breakfast,
24
we headed out to explore the city.
25
We visited Sacsayhuaman, a stunning Inca ruin site.
26
Alright, we're headed up to Sacsayhuaman and I would be lying if I said that we weren't feeling the altitude.
27
Ian explored Plaza de Armas,
28
the central square, which is surrounded by historic buildings, shops, and restaurants.
29
In between the exploring, we had some chance to eat some delicious food.
30
Let me tell you, Cusco has some of the coolest restaurants in the world.
31
Here are a few that we recommend.
32
Day two in Cusco is all about that food.
33
We ease into the day with a lazy morning before heading to the San Pedro market to explore
34
and sample the local foods.
35
We're at the San Pedro market.
36
It's this massive shopping area with everything from fruits to breads to meats,
37
anything you can imagine.
38
And it's pretty busy.
39
So we're buying a bunch of stuff for our cooking class with our guide,
40
and then we were going to go back to the studio and cook it.
41
So it should be fun.
42
That evening we participated in a cooking class where we learned how to make traditional Peruvian dishes.
43
Whose looks better?
44
This one?
45
Or this one?
46
Day three was an adventure.
47
We hopped in a van from our hotel in Cusco and headed to the Star Lodge in the Sacred Valley.
48
Picture this, you're sleeping in a pod hanging off the side of a cliff.

52
We're coming down.
53
Okay guys, please don't forget, always click the carabiners.
54
Copy, see you soon.
55
Let's go.
56
Alright, let's go really scary.
57
I'm really scared of heights.
58
It was fun.
59
I had a great time but going up in the dark
60
for the third time was pretty tough so I'm glad to get in here.
61
I'm not going to leave until and then I'm gonna get down as fast as possible.
62
So, yeah.
63
On day four, we were set to visit ancient ruins and the salt flats,
64
but fate had other plans.
65
We ended up walking for about three hours from our cliffside star lodge to our hotel in Urubamba.
66
And boy, was it an adventure,
67
but that's not even the half of it.
68
You have to watch the full video to hear the whole backstory.
69
Despite the unexpected turn of events,
70
We still had an amazing day exploring the Tambo del Inca,
71
sipping coffee at local shops,
72
and savoring a delicious dinner.
73
The hotel was gorgeous, but we'd recommend staying in Ollantay Tambo instead because there's more things to do.
74
And just when we thought the day couldn't get any wilder,
75
we were picked up and literally smuggled to our campsite to start our hike on the Inca Trail.
76
Days 5-8 were spent hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.
77
The stunning beauty of the Andes Mountains,
78
the ancient ruins, and breathtaking scenery made every step worth it.
79
The Inca Trail was challenging with its ups and its downs,
80
but the reward of reaching the iconic Machu Picchu was priceless.
81
I'm so happy!
82
We highly recommend hiking the Inca Trail,
83
and we've got a full review video and packing guides that help you plan your own adventure.
84
Don't miss out on this unforgettable experience.
85
On day nine, we were exhausted from all the hiking.
86
We rode the Vista Dome train back to Ollete Tambo,
87
and from there we took a bus back to Cusco.
88
We decided to hit up the spa after the hike to adequately recover
89
and shop for souvenirs for our friends and our family.
90
Day 10 was our travel day,
91
which we were flying back home to the United States with memories of a lifetime.
92
Okay, so time to be 100% honest about the experience.
93
Our Peru trip was insane.
94
We had it all planned out perfectly,
95
but then the unexpected happened.
96
We are hopefully going to Peru, maybe.
97
The LATAM plane wreck in Lima Airport shut down,
98
not to mention some of the largest protests in Peru's history,
99
threw a wrench into our plans.
100
Farmers are striking in Yorubamba,
101
so we are walking from the Star Lodge back to our Yorubamba hotel.
102
It's like a three hour hike.
103
We're just walking on the main road.
104
Yeah, we're just walking on the main road, trying to be respectful.
105
But did we let that stop us?
106
No way.
107
We worked with some amazing vendors to make quick modifications,
108
and still enjoyed the things we were most excited about.
109
We got picked up from our hotel at 10.30, or no, 9.30 p.m.
110
It is now 11.30 and all the roads are blocked.
111
All the protesters are having a fiesta.
112
I'm not feeling too confident that we're gonna get past any roadblock, but.
113
Sure, we missed out on some awesome spots like the Olletontambo ruins and some incredible restaurants in Cusco.
114
But setbacks aside, we had an incredible adventure with our family
115
and we are already planning our next trip Asia where we'll explore Taiwan,
116
Japan, and South Korea.
