First of all, in the first seven months of 2026, Vietnam recorded a trade deficit of more than 20 billion US dollars, marking a sharp reversal from last year's surplus.

I think the number itself is not yet a problem.

We have trade deficit, but we need to see where the import is coming from and what is it used for.

As I understand, the import is mostly for equipment and for materials, right?

So it's making up 94% of the imports and only 6%,

very tiny part is for consumption.

To control the deficit sustainably, Vietnam is focusing on developing domestic supporting industries and easing compliance burdens.

What can Vietnam do to help local suppliers manufacture more components domestically and rely less on imports?

I think the matter here is not about controlling imports, right?

Import is not bad.

For export or for doing business, you need something that you cannot make within the country, right?

But no matter how much you are importing into the country, you always have to strengthen the localization.

The first thing to do is to lift up the capabilities and the R&D capabilities of local companies themselves.
