14
Very nice.
15
Let's get started then.
16
So, tell us about your boring day, by the sound of it.

37

40
Like, do you like parachuting or bungee jumping or any of those things or roller coasters, theme parks?
41
I would say no, not really.
42
I think if I'm on holiday I'm a bit more adventurous.
43
So I've done and things like, you know, been in speed boats and that kind of stuff,
44
which I find quite enjoyable if I'm abroad, tends to be, but I don't really like roller coasters and that sort of thing, because they scare me and make me feel a bit sick.
45

46
What about you?
47
Are you a thrill seeker?
48
Not anymore.
49
I used to like theme parks when I was younger, but I don't really like them anymore.

53
I went to Brighton when I was a child but I can't remember it at all, to be honest.

Practice Tips

To effectively use the shadowing technique, listen closely to the video and repeat each phrase as you hear it, mimicking the intonation and speed of the speakers. Since the conversation takes place at a natural rhythm, it's a perfect opportunity to practice shadow speech. Try to focus on the pauses and tone, as this will help you improve your English pronunciation and fluency.

Additionally, consider using a shadowing app for easy playback control, allowing you to slow down or speed up the dialogue according to your comfort level. Engaging with material like "Learn English with YouTube" videos not only enhances your vocabulary but also makes you more confident in speaking about everyday topics like day trips and leisure activities. Repeatedly practicing this way will ensure that your speech becomes more fluid and natural over time.

What is the Shadowing Technique?

Shadowing is a science-backed language learning technique originally developed for professional interpreter training and popularized by polyglot Dr. Alexander Arguelles. The method is simple but powerful: you listen to native English audio and immediately repeat it out loud β€” like a shadow following the speaker with just a 1–2 second delay. Unlike passive listening or grammar drills, shadowing forces your brain and mouth muscles to simultaneously process and reproduce real speech patterns. Research shows it significantly improves pronunciation accuracy, intonation, rhythm, connected speech, listening comprehension, and speaking fluency β€” making it one of the most effective methods for IELTS Speaking preparation and real-world English communication.
