Fantastic.

It's that time of year again.

I'm excited.

It was like five minutes ago.

We were just here.

Yeah, exactly.

You know, year went by quick.

So we're so stoked to be back at Omaha and Council of Us.

You know, Drew, like work, work, work, work.

Getting ready for opening night.

Yeah, you guys are doing your rehearsals right now, right?

How is that going so far?

Fantastic.

Thanks.

I mean, you know, we got 21 or so tractor trailers that dumped gear the other day, a bunch of buses.

You know, I don't know how many hundreds of crew people are running around building this rig together for opening night, which is only a couple weeks away now.

But we've been talking about the tour all year.

We've been like really just wanting to deconstruct the entire thing and rebuild it better than previous years.

and we've been setting up camp here in council boss in omaha i think 18

and 19 years in a row we've been doing our production rehearsals here

so this is very familiar to us everybody in the building's

great the community's awesome as usually we love it here

but uh it's a lot of work long days absolutely now

you guys are doing uh the ghost of christmas eve for the first time in a

while this year um what goes into deciding the main portion

of the show every year is there like a board meeting where everybody gets together how does

that work pretty much yeah it'd be myself managers, a couple of the department heads.

You know, it's literally, I think, on or about January 15th is when we start having our conferences.

Okay, what did we love about last year?

Fantastic.

But I don't know if we've mentioned it in our previous conversations, but it's like the Super Bowl team.

You won the Super Bowl.

Congrats.

You know, you got the trophy, you got the ring, right?

That doesn't mean you're going to win the Super Bowl next year.

What do you do?

The GM, the coaches, you know, everybody goes into the drawing board and said, How do we make this team better that's exactly what we try to do

and you know

that there's a lot of people in the audience who come

back year after year right call them the repeat offenders yeah you know we owe it to

that group of people we owe it to ourselves as artists

and of course to paul and neil to never get complacent to never repeat ourselves

and i wanted to make sure that this year in particular

when the curtain goes up

and the house lights down they're going to look around go where is everybody everything's different you know

so you know musically we have to maintain the familiar reason why people come out you know people love

that story dude we haven't done it a while

so you know new technology is going to really visually bring it to life in a different manner you know

but we're doing stuff this year

that we've never ever played live before okay you know like

uh we're celebrating the 25th anniversary of the beethoven collection right

we've never done a beethoven set on a winter tour

so we're going to do a little mini set to tip

our hat to paul O'Neill's beautiful arrangement of the great composer's work.

You know, the opening of the show, we haven't done this particular piece of music in a long time either.

You know, it's a lot of fun.

Yeah.

I did some different arranging to a couple of things to bring it to life, you know, in different ways.

I want you guys who come back year after year after year, you go, dude, this is the best, craziest one ever.

Absolutely.

If you tell me, ah, it was better last year, that'd break my heart.

Yeah.

I don't want that.

No, for sure.

You mentioned the technology growing over the years and everything.

Do you have a favorite technical part of the show, like a visual aspect that you love personally, lasers, pyro, whatever the case may be?

You know what?

It's all cool because growing up a kid in the seventies, going to rock concert, you like the big rock show at Madison square garden, going, you know, ELP.

Yes.

Crimson kiss, Aerosmith, the Allman brothers on the skin or whatever it was like, this is awesome.

Now the only drag part of my job, I never get to see it.

I'm in the middle of it.

Yeah.

So for me, the greatest special effect that I get to witness

Is the expression on everybody in the audience's Faces change When you got a two-year-old child On their granddaddy's lap

And the pyro hits go off to Beethoven's Fifth Symphony And she kind of like

Gets startled and the grandpa holds her tight And they're both like fist bumping after that

Best effect I've ever seen in my life

Absolutely You guys have had Mariah from Plush on the road the last couple of years.

How is it bringing somebody, perhaps that young, who wasn't around to see TSO at its inception and kind of welcome them into the family, into the tour, and introduce them to everything?

There's people who weren't born when we started this thing who are in the band now, you know?

Listen, when you're that talented, you know, age becomes a secondary thing to me.

You know, the hard talent, and so many other people in this band, the younger people, are so ridiculously gifted and talented that I find that inspirational.

I'm looking at them going, yeah, I'm going to step up even a little bit more.

Let the younger generation nudge us older guys.

So, you know, oh, you know what?

I'm going to work a little bit harder.

Who's in my rearview mirror trying to get my job?

You know, that kind of thing.

And having that youthful energy and exuberance and talk about a God-given gift with that voice of ours.

Absolutely.

Like breathtaking, man.

She can really time stand still with that woman sings.
