Hi everyone and welcome back to another episode of 5-Minute English Practice.
2
I'm Jessica, your host, and today I want to do something a little different.
3
Instead of our usual topic discussion, I thought it'd be fun to just chat about my family.
4
You know, talking about family is such a common thing in English conversations, whether you're meeting new people, doing an interview, or just sharing with friends.
5
So, today I'm going to share a little speech about my family, like a personal introduction.
6
Feel free to pause and practice repeating after me, or use this as inspiration for your own English-speaking practice.
7
Okay, here we go.
8
Hello, my name is Jessica, and today I'd like to tell you a bit about my family.
9
We're a pretty close-knit group, and honestly, they're the most important people in my life.
10
Let me start with my parents.
11
My mom and dad have been married for over 30 years now, and they're still so in love.
12
It's really sweet to watch.
13
My mom is the heart of our family.
14
She's a high school English teacher, actually, which is probably why I love teaching and hosting this podcast so much.
15
She's super patient, always ready with a hug or good advice, and she makes the best homemade cookies.
16
I swear her chocolate chip cookies could win awards.
17
My dad is the funny one.
18
He's an engineer, so he's really logical and great at fixing things around the house, but he also has this silly sense of humor that keeps everyone laughing.
19
He loves telling dad jokes, and even though we roll our eyes, we secretly love them.
20
Then there's my older brother, Alex.
21
He's five years older than me, so growing up he was like my protector.
22
Now he's married with two little kids, my adorable niece and nephew.
23
Alex works in tech.
24
He's always on his computer building apps or something cool.
25
He's the calm, steady type.
26
Never gets stressed, which is the opposite of me sometimes.
27
We talk almost every day, and he's the first person I call when I need advice.
28
I also have a younger sister, Emily.
29
She's the baby of the family and full of energy.
30
Emily is studying art at university right now, and she's incredibly creative.
31
She paints these beautiful landscapes that make our house look like a gallery.
32
She's super outgoing, always dragging us to fun events or trying new restaurants.
33
We tease each other a lot, but we're really best friends.
34
Oh, and I can't forget our extended family.
35
My grandparents live just a couple of hours away, and we try to visit them every month.
36
My grandma is 82 and still gardens every day.
37
Her backyard is like a paradise with flowers everywhere.
38
Grandpa tells the best stories about his life growing up.
39
And then there are aunts, uncles, and cousins.
40
We have big family gatherings for holidays, and it's always loud, chaotic, and full of love.
41
What I love most about my family is how supportive they are.
42
No matter what happens, good days are tough ones.
43
They're always there for me.
44
They've taught me so much about kindness, hard work, and never giving up.
45
I feel really lucky to have them.
46
So that's a little bit about my family.
47
They're not perfect, but they're mine, and I wouldn't trade them for anything.
48
If you're practicing English, try this.
49
Record yourself talking about your own family for one to two minutes.
50
Describe who they are, what they do, and why they're special to you.
51
It's great practice for speaking naturally.
52
Thanks for listening today.
53
If you'd like, share in the comments.
54
Tell me about your family.
55
Who's the funny one?
56
Who's the cook?
57
I'd love to hear.
58
Until next time, keep practicing your English.
59
You've got this.
60
Bye for now.

Об этом уроке

Вы практикуете английский с "[A2] How to Talk About Your Family in English | Beginner Speaking Practice" с помощью техники Shadowing — метода, разработанного для подготовки профессиональных переводчиков.

Слушайте каждое предложение, обращайте внимание на ударения и связывание звуков, затем повторяйте вслух уверенно. 15–30 минут ежедневной практики дадут заметные результаты.

Что такое техника Shadowing?
