1
This is what I call boredom limbo.
2
You're so bored that all you want to do is scroll, but after two hours of that, somehow you're even more bored than before.
3
So then you switch from TikTok to Instagram, Instagram to YouTube, YouTube back to TikTok, thinking your feed is going to get more interesting, but it never does.
4
Even though you know you should be doing something more productive, the thought of productivity literally repulses you.
5
Like, I don't want to optimize anything right now.
6
I don't want to grind.
7
I just want to feel human again and enjoy my life.
8
But what do you do if you literally don't have any hobbies?
9
Well, as someone who makes content for a living and is chronically online, I've had to come up with a lot of activities that make me feel like I exist outside of the internet.
10
But I am a very low energy person, like you will not catch me playing pickleball or surfing.
11
So sorry, there are no sports in this video.
12
These hobbies are for the tired girls, things that make life feel a little more fun without needing an insane amount of energy.
13
So if you're tired of ping-ponging between social media apps all day, these are the hobbies that have genuinely helped me get off my phone and enjoy my life.
14
I like to keep my hobbies stupidly simple.
15
I like doing things I don't even have to think about.
16
And one of my favorite things to do is walk to a new place.
17
I'm not going to lie.
18
I definitely prefer to stay inside most of the time.
19
I mean, all my stuff is here.
20
I can wear what I want.
21
If I get hungry, I have my snacks.
22
But I end up staring at screens most of the time.
23
And when the weather's nice, I do feel guilty about not taking advantage of it.
24
So one of my favorite things to do is just put on my walking shoes and walk to a new place.
25
Since moving to downtown Chicago, I've really pushed myself to explore more.
26
And even though sometimes I do get a little bit of social anxiety, it's honestly really therapeutic to just put on my AirPods and listen to music or an audiobook.
27
Sometimes I'll walk to a cafe, sometimes I'll walk to the river, sometimes I'll just walk to different neighborhoods and look at all the stuff nearby.
28
There's just something really calming about walking with no deadline.
29
You can go at your own pace and you don't even have to talk to anybody.
30
Now that the weather is warm, I can easily walk for an hour or more, but honestly, the time just flies by since I'm always looking at stuff and observing.
31
And the best part is it keeps you off your phone and present in the moment.
32
And you really start to appreciate how beautiful the world is when you're not watching TikTok.
33
Something else I have loved doing for years is vision boarding.
34
If you ever feel guilty for not being productive, this is one of those hobbies that is in fact productive, but is still very low effort and fun.
35
I think it's just really nice to romanticize your future a little bit, especially if you're in a season right now where you feel a little bit lost or discouraged, or maybe you just need a little bit of clarity.
36
Because of social media, we end up constantly consuming other people's lives online that we actually stop thinking about our own life.
37
Like, what do you actually want?
38
How would you spend your ideal day?
39
What do you want your future home to look like?
40
Or who are the people you want to spend more time with?
41
Since 2023, I've made vision boards at the beginning of every single year, but you don't have to do this only when it's January.
42
You can make a vision board at any time of the year, multiple times a year.
43
I like to open up Pinterest, magazines, random photos, and make little collages of my goals.
44
And I don't know, it just really helps me feel excited about life again.
45
Now, I don't know about you, but for me, I get very easily distracted whenever I'm on my computer.
46
So I like using Opera Air.
47
This is a free minimalist browser designed to help you finish what you're doing and get off the internet faster.
48
Normally when I make my vision boards, I tend to go down a rabbit hole of checking my notifications, pop-ups, or emails, and I end up doing real work instead of the vision board,
49
which defeats the whole purpose of the hobby, but Opera Air helps you finish your online tasks faster so you can get back to your life after.
50
I love how clean the interface is.
51
Like, I actually feel calm when I look at it, and you can change the background depending on your mood.
52
And if you have any other creative hobbies, their built-in boost feature is actually really cool.
53
It plays binaural beats in the background to help you focus, and I really like this over Spotify because sometimes I can get distracted when I hear songs with lyrics.
54
If you want to spend more time doing the hobbies you love and less time online, I really recommend downloading Opera Air.
55
It's absolutely free.
56
So try it and let me know if it helps you.
57
But if you prefer more physical collages, you would love junk journaling.
58
I grew up always collecting stuff like movie tickets, wristbands, Polaroids, little trinkets from vacations, and I kept them all in this little box.
59
I don't know.
60
I guess I'm just a sentimental person.
61
I like to remember experiences.
62
But recently I discovered junk journaling where you collect little random tokens of life and you put them all in a scrapbook.
63
I think this is really fun therapeutic, especially now that most of us document stuff digitally, there's just something about preserving physical memories that feels more special.
64
This would also be a really cute activity to do with your partner or your best friend, just little tiny memories throughout the years.
65
Okay, I know I said there were no sports in this video, but I think hobbies can still be active without being exhausting.
66
And that's why I love doing at-home yoga or Pilates.
67
I've done the traditional hot mat Pilates at like studios, and that's intense.
68
Like that does not feel relaxing to me.
69
But I've just come to the point where I've realized
70
that moving your body doesn't always have to feel like you're being ripped in half.
71
And it's crazy to say, but you don't always need a reason to exercise.
72
I hate that we see exercise as a form of punishment or that you always need a goal to work towards.
73
I think you can exercise for the sake of moving your body, you know, just to have fun.
74
I remember as a kid, my cousins and I would literally play Just Dance on the Wii for hours.
75
That was literally my favorite game and I'd be sweating at the end because I wanted a perfect score, which they never gave to me, by the way.
76
I was actually a dancer back then too.
77
So I don't know, maybe the game just couldn't register.
78
I was going full out.
79
Like that was so fun.
80
And I feel like we need to find more ways to exercise that's actually enjoyable, but you don't have to leave your house for.
81
There are so many free Pilates, yoga, or stretching videos on YouTube.
82
You don't always have to pay for a class or be part of a club.
83
You can do it at home.
84
And it's just a nice way to relax, especially after a long day.
85
This next hobby is one I recently discovered and I've actually become obsessed with it.
86
I went to a sip and stem event here in Chicago, and we made these beautiful Ikebana-inspired flower arrangements.
87
I also have another one back there.
88
Ikebana originated as Buddhist offerings, and now it's become a Japanese art of making flowers look alive.
89
Recently, I think it's become very popularized.
90
I see a lot of people making these for special occasions or weddings, but it's actually very easy to make at home.
91
And it just brings so much life into your space.
92
You can get cheap flowers at Trader Joe's or your local florist, and you only need like five or six stems.
93
And it can be a fun little hobby to do once a week or once a month.
94
And if you don't wanna do this, you can even just make your own arrangement or bouquet.
95
There's tons of tutorials online on different styles and techniques.
96
But I think learning something new as you get older is so healthy for the mind.
97
And when you're done, you have a beautiful piece of art to look at or gift to someone else.
98
Now, if you like making stuff with your hands and eating, I absolutely love baking.
99
If you struggle to get off your phone or you have anxiety, baking literally forces you to focus on one thing at a time.
100
Whenever I'm in the kitchen, I am never on my phone because I'm just too like locked in on whatever I'm doing.
101
Even if you're bad at baking, you have to admit it's still really fun.
102
I mean, I bake a lot of things, but I would never consider myself a baker.
103
I just stick to easy, simple recipes that taste good.
104
I think if I chose something objectively difficult to make like macarons or sourdough, I'd actually lose my mind.
105
But the best part is you don't have to make that stuff.
106
As long as you have fun with it, that's all that matters.
107
Sometimes we need to remember that not everything we do needs to come out perfect.
108
And again, when you're done, you have a little treat for yourself or to share with friends.
109
Number seven is to do your own nails.
110
I personally don't get my nails done because I'm just way too clumsy.
111
But if you're a regular salon girl, when you actually learn to do your own nails, I promise you won't ever want to pay salon prices again.
112
I don't know.
113
I just think it's fun to learn how to do something that you normally pay someone else to do.
114
It's just more convenient to do at home.
115
And if you get a simple nail kit, it's so much more cost effective.
116
Throw on your favorite playlist, your favorite movie, do your nails and turn off your brain.
117
Whenever I'm doing any beauty maintenance on myself, I just find it physically impossible to think about scrolling.
118
Plus, if your hands have stuff on them, it's going to be hard to pick up your phone anyway.
119
This is one of those hobbies where you can visibly see yourself improving over time, and it's a really satisfying feeling.
120
One thing about me is I love little daily rituals.
121
And recently, I've been learning how to make signature drinks at home.
122
This all started because I went to this cafe and I had the best strawberry matcha in my life.
123
I've ordered it multiple times now, but my toxic trait is I think I can just make this stuff at home.
124
I mean, eight bucks for matcha is kind of ridiculous.
125
So I bought the strawberries and attempted to recreate the recipe.
126
Now, to be honest, it didn't really taste like the one I had, but I realized I actually just like making drinks and I started making my own matchas every day.
127
I know this is coffee, but I'm switching it up today.
128
Okay.
129
I love incorporating hobbies into my daily routine.
130
It kind of gives you something to look forward to outside of work.
131
And I think everyone should have one signature drink that they can make.
132
It can be coffee, tea, matchas, cocktails, smoothies.
133
Plus, if you ever host, you can impress your guests with your drink making skills.
134
It's like a party trick, you know?
135
Everyone's got to have one.
136
I think social media destroyed our attention span so badly that we don't even sit down and fully watch stuff anymore.
137
It's slowly making pop culture non-existent.
138
I mean, we half watch 30 second TikToks because we get bored.
139
So to help us recover our attention spans, I want to challenge you once a month
140
or once a week to sit down and watch a movie you've always wanted to see.
141
I come from a family that doesn't really watch a lot of movies.
142
So for most of my life, I kind of saw them as a waste of time, which is ironic because I was also an actor.
143
But at school or whenever I was with my friends, I felt left out of the conversation because I could never really relate to
144
or chime in whenever they'd talk about famous movies.
145
I mean, I've still never seen Harry Potter.
146
That's how out of the loop I am.
147
But when I got to college, I took this acting class where our homework every week was to watch one movie from this giant list of classic films.
148
As acting students, our professor wanted us to expose ourselves to as much classic cinema as possible, not just to learn acting, but to know famous actors and directors.
149
Which, by the way, makes a lot of sense.
150
I mean, if you're going to work in the industry, you got to know the people.
151
So in the span of one semester, I watched more movies than I had ever seen in my entire life.
152
But now when people ask me if I've seen so-and-so movie, I can finally say yes and be part of the conversation.
153
Honestly, I think movies are a dying art.
154
It's a great way to get off your phone and reset your attention span.
155
You know what else I think is a dying pastime?
156
Picnics.
157
Nowadays, we're always go, go, go.
158
We scarf down our food because we're too busy at work.
159
We order food from our cars, eat in our cars.
160
I think food has become a nuisance in our lives, just something to get over with.
161
But I think we should bring back the good old picnic.
162
Pack some food, take it outside, bring a book, listen to music.
163
I just love slow and peaceful activities like this.
164
You don't even need to go with someone, just have your own solo picnic.
165
Make a sandwich or buy it from somewhere else and eat it at the park.
166
There's just something about eating outside that makes food taste better.
167
And if you love people watching like me, picnics are the best way to do it.
168
It's actually like the earliest form of entertainment.
169
It really makes you slow down and appreciate life.
170
Instead of always eating and looking down at your phone, you can look at the world around you.
171
Hobbies don't need to be expensive or time consuming.
172
You don't need to invest in a bunch of tools or classes or be naturally good at it.
173
Any activity can be a hobby.
174
And I don't think most of us are actually lazy.
175
I think because of our demanding jobs and always living our life through a screen, we're just mentally overloaded all the time.
176
And when your brain is constantly overstimulated, even the fun things start to feel exhausting.
177
As someone who practically lives online, these low effort, simple hobbies have really helped me slow down and be more present.
178
And hopefully they'll do the same for you.
179
I would love to know what your hobbies are, so leave me a message in the comments.
180
And if you wanna find more ways to get out of the house and off your phone, I recently challenged myself to leave my apartment every day for a week, so you can watch that video right here.
181
As always, thanks for hanging with me and I'll see you next week.
182
Bye.

Грамматика и выражения в контексте

В этом видео используется несколько интересных грамматических структур и выражений, которые помогут вам в практике разговорного английского. Рассмотрим некоторые из них:

  • “I don’t want to optimize anything right now.”

Shadowing?
