and it's not just limited to one area and we've been seeing the video, some of it looking apocalyptic with many properties reduced to rubble,

And according to the chief, taking a helicopter tour of the damage of the aftermath, saying ultimately it looked like a war zone.

That fire specifically started on Friday and quickly forced the community to leave their homes behind.

All told, dozens of emergency orders and alerts remain in effect across multiple regions in the province,

meaning thousands of people have been forced to flee.

Thousands have had their lives upended and many know that they're going back to homes being lost, but also many others, Marcia,

right now don't know what it's going to be like

when they're able to go home and what it will look like when they go home.

So really a lot of unease in the province.

You heard from some residents there talking about what it was like to escape the flames.

Some of them had minutes just to get away from the flames

and we saw some of the videos of how close the encounter was of those people fleeing their homes, fleeing their communities to get away from the fire.

And if we can put up a map of the fire picture right across the country, it shows how many fires are still burning in Canada.

All told, the red is out of control and you see the large swath across many provinces.

Also, we have a map of the fire weather index, which really shows the intensity with the values that we see in this.

The red, that indicates higher intensity and larger flames.

In British Columbia right now, there are more than 116 active wildfires.

Roughly 50 are burning out of control.

And so far in that province alone, the flames have chewed through more than 300,000 hectares of land this year, Marcia.

Have they been able to get a handle on any of these fires?

As I mentioned, there are still about 50 that are out of control.

The Bradley Creek fire specifically is just shy of 3,000 hectares, also still listed as out of control.

So still a lot of work to get the upper hand on dozens of fires, with major fires still burning in the Fraser Canyon, Thompson-Nicola, and East Kootenai regions.

Even with all the devastation we've already seen, B.C has a difficult week ahead.

We're just getting in August, which is typically July and August, the hottest, driest months, which can fuel the most wildfire activity.

And the B.C.

Wildfire Service says temperatures are expected to increase into the mid-30s

in many parts of the province this week with dry lightning also in the forecast.

And that has the potential to be a perfect recipe for quite a significant growth in the fire.

So there is still a significant fight ahead to get a handle on a lot of these flames

and ensure that lives and livelihoods are protected, Marcia.
