Someone hit my car.

It's pretty minor damage, but I got it all on camera.

So in this video, we're going to go over why a Tesla is the best car to have

if you get hit by someone, and what it's really like to get a Tesla repaired.

There are so many cool features about this car, but there's one that I think is so useful, so underrated, can in the long run save you thousands of dollars potentially,

and most of the general population doesn't know about it.

And this feature that I love so much is called sentry mode.

So before we really get into what happened, you really need to know about this feature that Teslas have.

It's something I think every car in the future will probably have, and it's what allowed me to actually capture this all on camera.

So Sentry Mode is basically a built-in security system that all newer Teslas have.

Sentry Mode uses some of the eight cameras

that the car has for autopilot to save and record footage as you're driving or as you're parked.

All the Model 3s have them.

The only ones that might not are like the older Model Ss.

I'm pretty sure the older hardware does not have them but

if you order a new Tesla today then you definitely get this feature

so back to what happened a couple months ago

so i was getting dinner with a friend who was in town brooke michio she's also a youtuber

if you guys know her and she's thinking of getting a tesla

so i was like all right you need to ride in it

so i ended up giving her a ride back to her airbnb

and it was on a somewhat busy road

but it had a pretty big shoulder there were cars parked on the side

so i just pulled up to the side the road was beverly glenn boulevard

so if you live in l.a you know it's like a pretty long road

and it actually goes up into a neighborhood in the hills

so it just kind of felt like a neighborhood like it

didn't really feel like a weird place to park okay we've

returned to the scene of the crime i found the exact spot

that this happened so this is the exact spot

that i parked as you can see lots of room to park

and have cars drive by without hitting you just 30 seconds into being parked there i felt

that unmistakable it wasn't a bang but it was like a really big whoosh sound and the whole car shook.

I knew immediately like someone had just hit my car.

Like there's no mistaking it.

You know, you feel the whole car move and I saw the car, but it was gone so fast.

I didn't get the license plate.

I didn't get anything.

In that moment, you're so shocked.

You're not thinking, oh, remember the license plate number, like memorize that.

Like, no, that's not, no one actually really does that.

So I tapped that little button, had the footage saved.

And when I got home, I immediately sifted through the footage until I found it.

And this is what we got.

So like I said, the car captures every angle.

So I was able to see front and back when the car hits me, like two angles of it.

So we basically can see this car approaching from afar.

And then they come over, pretty much go on the line and hit my mirror.

I kept calling it a headlight earlier.

It was a mirror.

What is wrong with me?

I really had to slow it down to be like, did they hit me?

Like what?

So it's a little tricky to see because it does get dark when the car actually

hits So it's basically as

if a car driving by like this one just kind of swiped my car

and hit the mirror But you can see they are like on the line like they're driving

Way too close to the edge there.

So we have that angle But that angle is not super helpful because you know, there's no license plate number That's why a regular dash cam just wouldn't be that helpful in this situation

It only would have gotten one of the angles

and we'd still be either needing the license plate number

or the person Hitting the car so I opened up the next clip

and I thought it might be too dark Honestly to see the license plate, but we definitely can see it as the car drives by

If I pause it you can you can see that

and you can tell they're still like driving right on that line They're about to hit that other car too.

So sure enough the next day I look at my car

and and it took like a long time honestly to see it

but there was a small scratch and kind of crack on the headlight

so really not a big deal like not I mean they barely even hit my car like

if it took me that long to notice it like no one's gonna notice it

so here's the tiny little scratch if you can see

that okay look you guys I know this is a tiny scratch really not a big deal at all

but every year there's almost a million hit and run accidents

and sentry mode is kind of putting a stop to this by catching them all on camera

so now you can probably see how i would not have

been able to see this at night it's really something probably no one would notice except me okay

so yes it's a tiny scratch i know it's like hardly anything

but honestly it's kind of just the principle of the whole thing

that person had to have felt hitting my car like i definitely felt I'm sure

that they did too

and they didn't stop they just kept going quick ad break for a second

that I think is very Relevant to this video actually

So once I saw the damage, I did call the police and have them make a police report the next day.

You know, we've got the license plate.

But the police officer told me this is kind of useless

because we didn't actually catch the person and have them admit it.

We don't have a photo of their face.

Somebody else could have been driving the car.

And they really honestly acted like there's nothing they could do about it.

Like they, the guy was like, are you serious?

You really called me here for a scratch?

They said they would try and contact the guy and see if he would say he did it.

But I mean, do we really think that LAPD did that?

I'm sure they have better things to do than deal with like the scratch on my car.

So, so I know this is just a tiny little scratch and it really isn't a big deal, but it still really shows how beneficial Tesla's sentry mode is.

The fact that you have every angle

and you can even get a license plate number in the dark pretty much ensures you

that you'll have evidence anytime someone hits your car.

If it was a whole car door that they rammed into and ruined, I would be running the license plate number myself.

So I started Googling Tesla repair places and then I remembered that you can just do it in the Tesla app.

So in the app, it's actually super easy to go through.

You basically just tell them what's going on with your car, upload a photo.

This whole thing took probably, I don't know, two minutes.

And they had a bunch of appointments available even just the next week and can literally come to my house, which is amazing.

I got a confirmation text and it was all good to go.

They're literally going to come to my house.

And people say getting your Tesla repaired is a hassle.

Now I'm just kind of scared for the cost estimate.

It is now Monday and they texted me letting me know that the school cap part didn't arrive in time, so they're gonna have to reschedule it for a different time.

because I hear stories every day about friends who park somewhere and they come back and their car is totally f*ed up.

Just like two months ago, someone hit my friend Tasha's car and it was like $10,000 in damage and it was just parked.

And that's basically why Sentry Mode is, like, my low-key favorite feature after autopilot.

It's something that I think if you're in between getting a Tesla and getting a different car, you might want to consider because sentry mode could really save you money in the long run because

chances are someone's going to cause some kind of damage to your car.

And above that, just the peace of mind that if someone hits my car, I'll have evidence is like no other.

I know that my example wasn't exactly like a success story because, you know, the police didn't really like find anything.
