2
Hello friend, I'm Hope.
3
And I'm really glad you're here today.
4
Welcome to English with Hope a calm space for your mind and your heart In this channel, You don't have to be perfect.
5
You don't have to rush.
6
Here.
7
We learn English slowly.
8
We listen to English gently.
9
no pressure no stress and here You are not alone.
10
wherever you are in the world right here with you so relax your shoulders take a slow breath And let's begin.
11
Today's episode is about something that I think touches all of us, probably more often than we'd like to admit.
12
It is about expectations.
13
It is about the quiet.
14
invisible pictures we carry inside us we carry pictures of how life is supposed to go
15
and We carry pictures of how people are supposed to treat us.
16
We carry pictures of how our hard work is supposed to pay off.
17
we carry pictures of how love is supposed to feel We carry pictures of how our mornings are supposed to start.
18
But what happens inside our hearts when those pictures do not match what is actually in front of us?
19
What happens when our daily reality looks completely different?
20
from our imagination.
21
Do you ever notice how a quiet sense of frustration can trace its way into your morning?
22
you You look at your work, you look at your studies, you look at your relationships.
23
Everything seems a bit gray.
24
we look at our daily tasks and ask ourselves gently why our energy feels a little low today
25
because here is something i want us to sit with today it is something that might feel a little
26
uncomfortable at first but I promise you it comes with so much freedom on the other side
27
the problem is rarely life itself The problem?
28
often is the distance between what we expected and what is
29
We look at our circumstances and believe that life is being a bit unfair to us.
30
but if we stay very still we see that the day is just being a day the hours are simply unfolding
31
The true weight comes from the invisible blueprint we are trying to force onto the present moment.
32
when we realize this A beautiful sense of motivation can enter our hearts.
33
Amen we understand that we do not have to fix the whole world to feel peaceful again
34
we do not have to control every outcome to enjoy our journey
35
we can choose to look at our today with a light curious mind we can step away from our hidden requirements.
36
we can start to look directly.
37
at the actual path under our feet today We are going to explore this truth together like two friends sharing.
38
a quiet room we are going to learn how to open our hands and drop our unwritten rules
39
There's an old idea in philosophy and in psychology one of my favorites.
40
honestly and it goes like this The map is not the territory.
41
What that means is this: A map is a representation of a place.
42
It gives you a general sense of where things are, what roads exist, how far things might be.
43
But the map is not.
44
The actual landscape.
45
The map doesn't capture.
46
The unexpected detours.
47
The beautiful shortcut.
48
through the woods the road that washed away
49
the rain last spring the map is just a drawing the territory is the real thing
50
And we do this with life constantly.
51
We draw maps in our minds, detailed.
52
careful, emotionally invested maps of how things should unfold you We plan the route.
53
we imagine the destination We picture exactly how it will feel.
54
when we arrive and then we step outside into the actual territory and we discover that life has its own roads,
55
its own timing, its own way of moving.
56
Life never received your map.
57
It was never given the instructions.
58
it simply is unfolding in its own mysterious imperfect sometimes breathtaking way you And when we forget this,
59
When we hold our mental map, so tightly in demand that reality match it that is when frustration takes root
60
that is when we start believing that life has let us down that things are going wrong.
61
that we are somehow behind.
62
or of course But what if you...
63
Weren't off course.
64
What if you were just in the actual territory, the real?
65
Fall.
66
living version of your life.
67
And the discomfort he was feeling was simply the surprise of how different it looks.
68
From the picture you drew, This is the first thing I want you to hold today.
69
You are allowed to have hopes.
70
You are allowed to set intentions and make plans.
71
but hold them loosely.
72
Hold them the way you would hold, a firefly in your hands.
73
gently with open fingers ready to let it move in ways you didn't expect Your map is not your territory.
74
and your territory might be more beautiful than anything you could have met Here's something worth sitting with, something that...
75
When I first really understood it, changed a great deal for me.
76
most of our expectations are not wishes they are demands silent unspoken demands that we place on the world
77
the people in our lives and on ourselves and the tricky part is that we rarely even realize we're making them.
78
think about it when you expect someone you love to know what you need without you saying it
79
and That is a demand.
80
When you expect that working hard guarantees a particular outcome.
81
That is a demand.
82
when you expect that being a good person means life will be kind to you in return That is a demand.
83
These are understandable demands.
84
human demands but they are demands nonetheless and here is what demands do They create conditions for our happiness.
85
They say.
86
I will feel okay.
87
Only if this happens.
88
will feel loved only if they do this I will feel at peace only when life looks like this
89
and when those conditions go unmet
90
life being life often doesn't meet them we call what we feel
91
and disappointment but what we're really experiencing is the pain of a demand being refused
92
I want to invite you to try something, not to stop caring.
93
not to stop hoping but to begin noticing the next time you feel hurt or let down or frustrated get curious
94
Ask yourself, "What was I expecting here?" what did i silently require from this situation from this person from myself
95
Because when you can name the expectation
96
you can start to work with it you can ask is this a hope or a demand.
97
"Is this something I communicated clearly?" or something i assumed would just be understood.
98
is this expectation based on love or on fear, There is a world of difference.
99
between hoping something will go well and quietly requiring it too
100
one is an open hand reaching forward the other is a closed fist waiting to be disappointed,
101
Catch your silent demands, hold them up to the light.
102
Some of them will dissolve just by being seen.
103
you I want to tell you something.
104
that i think is one of the most freeing truths i've ever come across and i mean that sincerely
105
Most of the time.
106
when we suffer We are not suffering because of what happened.
107
we are suffering because of the distance between what happened and what we believed should have happened.
108
Think of two people going through the same difficult experience, maybe losing a job, or going through the end of a relationship.
109
we're facing a sudden change in plans.
110
One person collapses under it.
111
The other moves through it with something close to grace.
112
"It doesn't look like strength." Necessarily,
113
it looks like acceptance like rootedness what is the difference between those two people Almost always.
114
It comes down to expectation.
115
The first person had a very specific picture.
116
of what their life was supposed to look like and this event shattered it.
117
every day they are comparing reality to the picture every day reality loses every day The pain deepens.
118
The second person had learned perhaps through their own hard seasons, not to hold the picture.
119
so tightly they grieve Yes, they feel the loss.
120
of course but they are not comparing they are simply in it present with what is and
121
rather than paralyzed by what isn't.
122
This is not about pretending.
123
Things don't hurt.
124
pain is real grief is real Disappointment is real.
125
but there is a difference between the natural The honest ache of something not going the way you hoped,
126
and the prolonged suffering of continuously measuring your life against a version of it that never existed.
127
The comparison is the wound, not the circumstance.
128
here is the tender truth You do not have to keep measuring.
129
You are allowed right now.
130
this moment to put down the measuring stick
131
to stop comparing your life to the imagined one to stop measuring yourself against who you thought you'd be by now
132
to simply be here in the life that is actually yours and ask what does this moment need from me
133
The suffering is in the gap, and the gap closes.
134
The moment you stop measuring, I know what some of you
135
might be thinking right now something along the lines of
136
if I stop expecting things doesn't that mean I've given up doesn't that mean I've settled you Doesn't that mean I just...
137
don't care anymore I understand that fear,
138
I really do, because so many of us have learned to use our expectations as fuel, as a way of staying motivated, Stain driven.
139
staying alive to what we want.
140
Thank you.
141
but i want to offer you a different way of looking at surrender
142
surrendering expectations is not the same as surrendering your hopes
143
It is not the same as lowering your standards or deciding that nothing matters.
144
True surrender is something much quieter.
145
much braver than
146
that it is showing up fully giving your absolute best without attaching your sense of peace to a particular outcome
147
is planting a seed with complete care and devotion and then trusting the soil and Trusting the rain,
148
trusting the season, rather than standing over it every hour demanding it grow on your schedule.
149
Thank you.
150
There is a deep wisdom in this kind of surrender.
151
It doesn't make you passive.
152
It makes you free.
153
Because when you are no longer white -knuckling, a specific outcome you are able to be present.
154
for what is actually unfolding.
155
you can see the unexpected turn that becomes the best thing that ever happened to you you can receive the gift.
156
That didn't come in the package you ordered.
157
so many of the greatest most meaningful things in life have arrived in the exact shape of something we didn't expect
158
friendship born from a difficult moment A path discovered when the original road closed.
159
A strength uncovered precisely because things.
160
didn't go smoothly Surrender is not a white flag, it is an open door.
161
It is you saying, "I am going to do my very best and I am also going to trust that life."
162
in its wisdom knows what it's doing letting go of the outcome.
163
is not the end of caring.
164
it is the beginning of trusting We are almost at the end of our time together today and i want to close.
165
with what I think is the most quietly powerful shift of all We spend so much energy expecting things from life.
166
We expect circumstances to be easier.
167
We expect other people to understand us.
168
We expect timing to cooperate.
169
We expect outcomes to reward our effort.
170
and when these things don't happen the way we hoped we feel powerless we feel like life is happening to us
171
rather than through us.
172
But there's a shift available.
173
to every single one of us.
174
and it doesn't require anything to change outside of you.
175
it's this Move the expectation inward.
176
instead of expecting life to be easier Expect more of your own ability to adapt.
177
instead of expecting other people to always show up for you Expect more of your own capacity.
178
to be there for yourself Instead of expecting the road to be smooth, Expect more of your own courage.
179
to walk it anyway.
180
This is not about being hard on yourself.
181
Please hear that.
182
This is about reclaiming your power.
183
It is about becoming someone who stops waiting for conditions to be perfect
184
and starts showing up for life exactly as it is.
185
When you shift your expectations inward, something remarkable begins to happen.
186
Life doesn't necessarily get easier.
187
but you become more capable.
188
than you ever imagined.
189
You discover a resilience you didn't know was there.
190
You find that you are more creative more patient
191
more tender with yourself and others than you ever gave yourself credit for and the strange
192
Beautiful thing is that life often starts to meet you differently.
193
When you arrive with this kind of energy, Not because the universe rewards you, though maybe it does, in its own quiet way.
194
but because when you are no longer at war with what is You are finally free to build with it.
195
Stop waiting for life to give you.
196
The perfect conditions.
197
start giving yourself the one condition that matters most your own presence.
198
your own commitment your own willingness to try life is not withholding from you It is simply waiting for you to arrive.
199
Fully.
200
"Bravely." without the weight of what you expected it to be as we close today
201
I want to leave you with something gentle to carry.
202
Not a task, not a challenge, just a soft reminder.
203
the life you are living right now the one with the detours and the surprises
204
and the things that didn't go the way you planned
205
this life is not a mistake you It is not a consolation prize.
206
It is the real thing.
207
It is yours.
208
and you are allowed to love it.
209
Even in its imperfection, you are allowed to find it beautiful,
210
even when it's hard you are allowed to be at peace with where you are even as you continue to grow.
211
and to reach and to hope.
212
today if you find yourself in that gap that painful space between what you expected and what is
213
you I hope you can breathe a little I hope you can loosen your grip
214
just slightly i hope you can whisper to yourself The way a good friend would whisper to you.
215
This is not wrong.
216
This is just different.
217
And different is okay.
218
different might even be wonderful you thank you so much for spending this time with me truly
