So I think it's really important to have goals when you're learning the English language.
2
I think it's important to decide that you're going to do something
3
so that you can get to a certain point in the future and be very happy with your progress.
4
So in this English lesson, I'm going to give you three goals, or actually ideas for how to create three of your own goals based on certain parameters,
5
based on certain things you can do to achieve those goals.
6
So welcome to this English lesson about setting goals let's look at three goals
7
that you can set so that your English improves for the future.
8
The first type of goal I think you should set for yourself is a goal that repeats and eventually has an end.
9
And let me explain by giving you an example.
10
Let's say you decided to learn one new English word a day for 30 days.
11
In that example, the goal has repetition.
12
You're doing it every day, and it has an end where you can celebrate because you have achieved the goal.
13
A more challenging goal might be to study English for an hour every day for 75 days.
14
You're going to do some reading, writing, listening, and speaking every day for 75 days.
15
And then there's two things you need to do if you attempt this.
16
Number one, you need to kind of check off on a calendar every time you actually do your daily work.
17
And if you miss a day, you have to start again.
18
So that's the kicker.
19
In English, when there's a kicker, it's like that's the bad part to this goal and this challenge.
20
So what do What do you do?
21
You decide you're going to do something every day.
22
You're going to learn some kind of English every day, and you're going to do it for a certain number of days.
23
And if you actually do it, you can celebrate and maybe have a bowl of ice cream or another treat.
24
The second type of goal
25
that I think you should create for yourself is to plan to do something far in the future that requires preparation
26
and lots of studying of the English language.
27
The things that come to mind are things like visiting an English-speaking country,
28
taking an English test, or actually committing to hiring an English-speaking partner that you're going to meet with online.
29
If you plan to go to an English-speaking country in three months, if you plan and sign up for and pay for an English test in four months,
30
if you say in four months, I'm going to actually meet with an English conversation partner, Your goal then is to prepare for that upcoming event.
31
When you set something far in the future, it's nice to work towards it.
32
If I was planning to go on a trip this winter
33
to a really warm country where I would be at the beach, I would definitely try to lose weight and be in good shape
34
if I was walking around in a bathing suit on a beach in the Caribbean somewhere.
35
So you can apply the same concept to learning a language.
36
So decide on something in the future, a trip, a test, meeting with an English speaking partner.
37
I'm sure you can come up with one of your own ideas.
38
And then your goal then is to prepare for that stressful upcoming event.
39
I'm pretty sure you can do it.
40
And if you can think of any other ideas for things
41
that you could plan to do in the future that would make you work hard learning English, please leave them in the comments below.
42
I would love to hear your ideas.
43
The third type of goal I think you should set for yourself is to decide for a little
44
while you're going to do the hard things and not the easy things when learning English.
45
And here's what I mean by that.
46
Every once in a while, someone will leave a comment and they'll say, I can understand English TV shows, but when I try to speak, it's very, very challenging.
47
Or they'll say, hey, I can speak English, but it's very challenging for me to write English.
48
As humans, even when we're doing something like learning a language, we tend to do the the things we like and the things that are easy.
49
Given a choice, many of us would just listen to English music, listen to English podcasts and watch YouTube videos, and we wouldn't do a whole lot of writing.
50
We probably wouldn't do a whole lot of speaking.
51
So I'm not sure what your challenge is when it comes to learning English, but your goal should be one,
52
identify that challenge, and then number two, focus on practicing that for a certain period of time, maybe for the next week or next month,
53
or even for the next year.
54
If I had to do it, it would certainly be my French conversation.
55
Obviously I speak English, so I don't need to practice my English.
56
But if I needed to focus on practicing my second language, I would hire a speaking partner to help me with French conversation.
57
So find the thing, identify the thing that is challenging for you, and then your goal is to then work on that until it improves.
58
Well hey, thank you
59
so much for watching this really short English lesson about goals you can set to help improve your English.
60
Now what I'm most interested in right now is
61
if you have goals that you've set in the past
62
that have helped you stay motivated and helped you do really well as you were studying English, please leave some of those goals in the comments below.
63
Maybe Maybe you have this really awesome plan for learning English strategically over 30 days.
64
Maybe you have taken an English test and you have like advice you can give for people who are setting that goal.
65
Anyways, leave that in the comments.
