Sometimes I will go for a walk around Huan Kim Lake.
2
What's up everyone?
3
Ciao coba!
4
Và chào mừng coba!
5
Qua chào lại với podcast Slow and Clear của What's Up English.
6
My name is Carter.
7
And today you're going to learn how to talk about your daily routine.
8
Not only that, but you're going to learn many different activities and fun things that people do.
9
And not even just fun things,
10
but things that people do in Vietnam.
11
So this will be really useful for you to make plans with someone.
12
For you to talk about what you did on the weekend.
13
for you to simply make small talk with other people.
14
So first, I'm going to tell you guys about my daily routine in Hanoi.
15
And spoiler alert, it's really nothing too special.
16
It's very normal, I would say.
17
I wake up.
18
If it's in the winter,
19
then it can be pretty hard to get out of bed because your bed is so warm.
20
Outside is so cold.
21
Even in summer in Vietnam,
22
it can be hard to get out of your room because you have the air conditioner on and it feels so cool.
23
And outside of your room is really hot.
24
But yeah, so I wake up and then I usually go outside and get some sunlight into my eyes.
25
I'm not the best sleeper.
26
I have trouble sleeping.
27
So I researched online to go outside,
28
get sun in your eyes in the morning,
29
and also try to raise your body temperature by doing some exercise.
30
So sometimes I will walk to the rooftop of my apartment
31
building through the stairs from a very low floor to the top floor
32
and that is my exercise and then I get the sunlight on the rooftop.
33
So after I walk from my floor to the rooftop,
34
I'm usually feeling pretty hot from the exercise.
35
And then I stand on the rooftop for about five or ten minutes, get the sunlight.
36
Then I go back down.
37
I brew a coffee with the Vietnamese Phin.
38
In English, maybe it's just called the Vietnamese coffee filter or we call it a Vietnamese drip coffee.
39
So I brew one of those with a little bit of condensed milk
40
and a pinch of salt and then while that's brewing I will maybe go on my computer,
41
plan my day, check the tasks that I have to do,
42
usually some form of work.
43
Because early in the morning,
44
I'm still in a relaxed mood.
45
And in the morning, I feel like it's easier to focus.
46
So when my coffee is ready, I drink my coffee.
47
And then sometimes I will do a quick workout.
48
like before it was only a short small workout
49
and then after I drink the coffee I'm like oh I'm pumped up
50
so then maybe I'll do a workout and then after
51
that often I will eat and then go to work
52
so what I eat in the morning is pretty much only two things it is either pho or oatmeal.
53
It depends on what I feel like.
54
But to be honest, I feel like I could eat pho every day and not get tired of it.
55
Well, I do eat pho every day and I don't really feel tired of it.
56
So I don't know.
57
There's something magic about that dish,
58
to be honest, because you can eat it so often and you don't get tired of it.
59
It's crazy.
60
So yeah, I eat, I go to work.
61
My job is at a middle school.
62
That's all I will say.
63
After work, I usually come straight home because at that time is rush hour.
64
And rush hour, guys, is usually between like five and six.
65
it can go a little bit longer to 6 30
66
but that's when the traffic is the worst
67
and then I drive home by the way we can call
68
that a commute so my commute from home to work is not too far so then I go home um,
69
relax a little bit.
70
And then, um, for dinner,
71
I will often order food or I will go out for dinner with a friend.
72
I don't often cook at home, to be honest.
73
I should cook at home more,
74
but it just feels so much more convenient and still cheap to eat out or order food.
75
um then after dinner I usually work on my YouTube channel until about 10
76
or 11 o'clock then I just start to relax
77
and get ready for bed and uh oh I I forgot one important detail of my routine.
78
At the end of the night,
79
I always play with my two cats, Di and Theo.
80
I will show you these cats on a live stream.
81
But yeah, they are brothers.
82
I love them so much.
83
They're awesome cats.
84
And they really help me relax at the end of the day.
85
Yeah, they're really awesome.
86
So that is my daily routine on a normal weekday.
87
Nothing too interesting, right?
88
It's nothing special.
89
I think many people just,
90
you know, most people live lives like that.
91
We get up, we do this thing,
92
we go to work, come home, we do that thing.
93
And the fun things we do are in between all of the things we must do, right?
94
So on the weekend, Sometimes I will go for a walk around Huan Kim Lake.
95
Sometimes I will play badminton with a friend,
96
go out to a cafe with a friend,
97
maybe go to a nice restaurant in Westlake because Westlake has a lot of international restaurants And I really like international food,
98
like Mexican food or Indian food.
99
So now I'm going to talk about activities that I see people doing a lot in Hanoi.
100
And these things, if you live in Ho Chi Minh City,
101
if you live in some other big city,
102
or even in the countryside,
103
you can use these things to talk about what you do.
104
So, for example, in Hanoi,
105
you can go to the night market.
106
You can wander around there.
107
You don't necessarily need to buy anything,
108
but you can just take a look at what people are selling.
109
You can go to a cafe and just hang out.
110
one of the great things about cafes is that you don't really need any reason to go to a cafe, right?
111
You can go there to work or you can just call your friend.
112
You want to hang out?
113
Sure.
114
Okay, let's go to a cafe.
115
And then you just sit at the cafe and enjoy a coffee, maybe a tea.
116
Many people gather at cafes and they don't even like talk to each other, right?
117
They just sit there on their phones,
118
but at least they're still together.
119
So they enjoy just being next to one another.
120
What else?
121
I see many young kids rollerblading.
122
Maybe some of you call this roller skating.
123
I think it's the same thing,
124
but in Canada, we call it rollerblading.
125
And they do this in the parks and they go really fast.
126
It's actually really fun if you try it.
127
I notice in Vietnam, pretty much only kids do the rollerblading.
128
But if you're an adult and you want to try it, try it.
129
It's seriously, it's a lot of fun and it's a really good workout.
130
When tourists come to Hanoi,
131
they can go, or any city.
132
When I say Hanoi, I mean anywhere, basically, in Vietnam.
133
They can go on a food tour.
134
They can visit the Temple of Literature.
135
Or they can go to the prison museum.
136
There's definitely a few things to do.
137
Other things I often see people doing are sitting on the sidewalk and eating street food.
138
To be honest, personally, I'm not a huge fan of street food
139
because most of it is like processed and fried and just not really healthy for you.
140
like those meat sticks, not titian,
141
but the ones where it's like a stick and you put the different meats on it,
142
like the balls, the pink balls, the yellow balls.
143
I don't even know what those are called,
144
but I see they're very common.
145
So yeah, you could chill on the street and eat that street food.
146
And
147
so those are a lot of things you could use to make plans to talk about what you did on the weekend.
148
For different sports, we can say,
149
you know, play football, play badminton, play table tennis.
150
We don't use hit, right?
151
We don't say hit tennis.
152
When we're talking about walks,
153
you can say, go for a walk,
154
have a walk, go for a stroll,
155
go for a run, go for a jog.
156
That all sounds very natural.
157
You can say, go jogging.
158
So for example, oh, tomorrow,
159
I'm going to go for a jog.
160
Or tomorrow, I'm going to go jogging.
161
Both of them are totally okay.
162
Oh yeah, and that reminds me,
163
some other things you can do.
164
You can go work out at the gym.
165
You can go out for dinner at a restaurant.
166
So there's just so many activities that I'm sure I cannot name them all.
167
But hopefully I've been able to name a lot of them that will be really useful for you guys.
168
If there are any activities that I didn't name,
169
feel free to post it in the comments.
170
Tell us like what you do on a regular day.
171
You could practice writing, you know,
172
first I do this, then after that I do this.
173
Sometimes I do this.
174
If it's something, I'll do that, right?
175
So for example, I often go for a walk in the evening,
176
but if it's raining, I'll stay home and read something like that.
177
So guys, that's it for this podcast.
178
But if you want to check out my live stream,
179
then click this video.
180
This was the first live stream I've ever done.
181
I forgot to post the live chat.
182
So next stream, you will be able to see the live chat.
183
But you can expect me to be streaming every Sunday at 10am.
184
And I will post that for you guys.
185
So yeah, thank you so much for listening for watching this podcast.
186
I hope it was useful for you.
187
And I will see you in the next video.
188
Have a great day.
