1
What are you doing little kitty?
2
Let us do it.
3
Earth, one, nothing.
4
Then what do you plan on doing?
5
Now, Earth, two moons.
6
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
7
Splitting the moon in half has its own cons, little kitty.
8
What?
9
Well, let me explain.
10
Hey friends, so in today's episode, let's answer a splitting question.
11
What if the moon split in half?
12
Zoom in!
13
The Earth and moon share a harmonious relationship with each other.
14
It's due to the moon's locked position and gravitational force, our planet doesn't wobble and maintains its axis.
15
Which eventually helps us to have a stable climate throughout the year.
16
Not only that, but the tides course due to the moon's gravity allows us to maintain a proper schedule.
17
And of course, the moon provides some light to us during night time.
18
Hence our moon is perfect the way it is and should not change.
19
But for the sake of this video, let us explore a scenario where our moon splits in half.
20
I know what you are thinking, is it really possible?
21
Well, we aren't sure about it.
22
But what we know is that just like our Earth, the moon has several active faults known as the thrust faults.
23
Since its formation, the Moon has cooled down from its molten rock format into the one that we see today.
24
While cooling down, the Moon shrinks through the process known as thermal contraction.
25
As the Moon shrinks, its volume decreases and compresses the surface,
26
surface, causing high pressure on its crust, resulting in moon quakes, a lunar equivalent of an earthquake.
27
However, the moon quake would not be able to split the moon in half, but come to think of it,
28
if an asteroid strikes the moon on the right spot, there is a possibility that ...that it might cause a greater impact,
29
resulting in the split of the Moon.
30
But, even so, the Moon might not get split in exact half.
31
Instead, it might shatter into pieces.
32
But, for the sake of this video,
33
let's assume that the Moon gets divided into two equal sizes and see what happens next.
34
Well, as we know, it's only one side of the moon constantly facing the Earth.
35
So, if the darker side gets cut away, we might not notice any change at first.
36
Plus, the moon's gravity will not let the other side drift away and both of them will join back together.
37
But if these two halves manage to break the gravitational force and drift away,
38
then in the next millions and billions of years,
39
these two parts will turn spherical again and the Earth will have two smaller moons.
40
And the first thing to get affected by these two moons is the Earth's axis, as it will start to wobble,
41
leading to extreme seasonal changes and fluctuations in temperature.
42
Plus, as we know that the moon's position slows down the Earth's rotation, because of which we have 24 hours in a day.
43
But with only half the moon, its weaker gravity won't be able to control the Earth's speed.
44
As a result, one day on Earth can get as short as 15 hours.
45
Other than that, the weaker gravity of the moon might affect the tide cycle of our oceans
46
This will drastically affect marine life and the essential biological functions like feeding
47
laying eggs and even Migrating will get difficult resulting in their extinction
48
This extinction of aquatic life will eventually affect the human population
49
as many people depend on it for their source of income and a staple diet.
50
But fortunately, this will probably never ever happen.
51
So just relax and enjoy the lovely moonshine.
52
Trivia time!
53
Did you know the moon is moving away from us at a speed of 1.5 inches per year?
54
Yes, that's due to the interaction of the moon's gravity with Earth's oceans.
55
To know more about the moon, please check our videos on the moon.
56
Hope you learned something new today.
57
Until next time, it's me Dr. Binox, Zooming out.
58
Never mind.

Cấu trúc ngữ pháp & Biểu thức trong ngữ cảnh

  • What if: Câu hỏi giả định, ví dụ "What if the moon split in half?" giúp bạn thực hành cách đặt câu hỏi và suy nghĩ sáng tạo.
  • Since: Cấu trúc "Since its formation" cho thấy cách diễn đạt nguyên nhân và kết quả, rất hữu ích trong giao tiếp hàng ngày.
  • Could: Sử dụng “could” trong các câu như “However, the moon quake would not be able to...” giúp bạn hiểu cách mạo hiểm trong việc đưa ra những giả thuyết.
