I move to a new country every month, and this is actually my second time coming to Budapest, because it is my absolute favorite.

But there are some things that you've got to know beforehand.

Five more things that you're going to love, and five more things that you might hate.

First thing that you're absolutely going to love here in Budapest is just the art.

The first time I was here, I didn't recognize just how much art there is.

and the architecture just plays into

that it's just oh the architecture is beautiful make sure to

set some time aside to go see the Fisherman's Bastion the Opera House

and the whole Jewish Quarter just has unbelievable architecture and

that brings me to the second thing that you're gonna love

which is the Jewish Quarter it's something special there's something for

everybody wonderful food great people a lot of young people the party scene is there we'll get to

that in a minute but definitely make sure that you set time aside spend a full day walk into the Jewish Quarter, stumble into the little stores and restaurants, you will not be disappointed.

The Jewish Quarter here is, it's just something spectacular.

It's very different than the rest of Budapest, but it is, in my opinion, the absolute best.

The third thing you're absolutely going to love here in Budapest is actually found in the Jewish Quarter in its ruin bars.

Here's all you need to know about them and why they are so cool.

So they went to flea markets, things like garage sale, and basically took any furniture

that people were willing to give up and they moved it into these spaces and turned it into a bar.

So you are literally drinking in the ruins of an old building and it is just the coolest experience.

The furniture, the decor is just out of this world.

It is wacky.

There is writing on the walls, graffiti everywhere.

and they can basically all be found here in the Jewish Quarter

and they're just the coolest places to go and get drinks with locals

because the things you'll see I mean you're not gonna find anywhere else

so definitely go and make sure to check out the room bars because they are wonderful.

The fourth thing you'll absolutely love is just the cafe culture and the energy in these cafes.

There are cafes everywhere in the city and the culture around it is thriving.

Yes, there are even Starbucks and they're thriving too, but the local places are so much better.

They're basically always packed with folks.

You can find young people, old people, nomads, anybody.

They'll be hanging out at the cafes because the coffee is good, the Wi -Fi is strong, and the energy is just unmatched.

You're absolutely going to love the cafe culture when you come to Budapest.

and it's the food and rather than speak broadly about the goulash and everything else I want to give you specifics.

So my favorite bakery, Iran.

If you're looking for baked goods go there it's wonderful there's always a line out the door it's worth it.

If you're looking for some of the best brunch and healthy options check out a place called Vinyl and Wood.

The dishes are exceptional nothing has ever disappointed me there it's just it's a phenomenal spot.

If you want a quick dessert there's a place called Gelato Rosa.

The gelato is really special for two reasons.

One, they have really unique flavors like they have like a chocolate chili

and just a bunch of other combinations that you normally wouldn't think of and wouldn't be able to find.

And also there's a novelty aspect.

They turn all of the gelato into roses.

So it's really like Instagram worthy if you're looking for that, but the gelato is actually good itself.

The cones could maybe be improved, but everything else is wonderful.

It's definitely worth checking out at least one.

If you're looking for Middle Eastern food, Dubrumah cannot be matched.

It is one of the absolute best.

If you're looking to be a little fancy or maybe go on a special date, there's a place called Asensia.

It has a Michelin star and it is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the entire world.

For a Michelin star restaurant, it's actually pretty affordable.

You can easily eat there for like $40 per person, which is just kind of unheard of in the Michelin star place.

Nothing there disappoints.

It is spectacular, but make sure to make a reservation there.

And now that the fun stuff is over, we got to get real.

definitely be aware before you come to Budapest.

First one, just the amount of drugs that get offered to you.

Basically in all the bar hotspots on the streets, you can expect some shady guys standing out there waiting for you to walk by and they're gonna ask you,

do you want the good stuff? newsflash say no. Because drugs are very illegal here in Hungary, I don't think you want to end up in their prison system.

Just not worth it, but yeah, you're gonna have to say no a lot, so just be prepared for that.

Speaking of sketchy, if you're staying in an Airbnb or anything like that, be prepared for some sketchy entrances.

A lot of the buildings here, you'll enter this front gate and you'll kind of walk into what looks like a ruined bar without bars and without people.

It's like a dark, sketchy hallway and there's basically always a sketchy staircase

that you got to take to get up to your actual accommodation.

So be aware of that and don't get too scared if you're checking into your Airbnb, you're like, oh my god, where am I?

Trust me, you'll be fine.

Just wait till you get up to the room, but be prepared for some of those sketchy entrances.

Also, one other useful thing to know, most of the buildings that I've encountered here don't have A lot of them will have elevators, but they're not working.

So be prepared to take the stairs up.

So it might not be a bad idea to ask the

Airbnb host before you book what floor is it on and is there a working elevator?

That way you can avoid having to lug your suitcases up eight flights of stairs.

Not something that's fun, trust me, I've done it.

The next thing that you might not like and something

that you should be aware of are just which places are maybe overpriced and catering to the tourists.

Simplicur, which is that number one ruined bar, it's the original.

Just know that the prices in there have gone up.

Definitely something that you should walk through, that's probably not the place to do it.

Also right outside that ruined bar is the caravan station

and again well that's a really cool place to go

and see just know that they're charging a premium for the food because they're always packed.

The line out of SimpliCurt and in the caravan station is sometimes laughable especially on the weekends and in the evenings.

Again though I do want to make it clear they're definitely worth checking out

but if you're looking to save the money maybe just don't plan on actually buying anything there.

Still walk by and see it but there are other cheaper places available.

Two other places come to mind one I believe is pronounced the Gooshdu Passage

but all of the restaurants all the bars in there hey in my experience they're not very good

One of the most beautiful spots in Budapest is right outside the Parliament building.

They've got this like a unbelievable green grass.

or might even hate about Budapest is just how much you actually need to know about the city before visiting.
