1
If you're new here, hi, I'm Camden.
2
I move to a new country every month, and this is actually my second time coming to Budapest, because it is my absolute favorite.
3
But there are some things that you've got to know beforehand.
4
Five more things that you're going to love, and five more things that you might hate.
5
First thing that you're absolutely going to love here in Budapest is just the art.
6
The first time I was here, I didn't recognize just how much art there is.
7
city but so many murals just awesome places to see artwork here
8
and the architecture just plays into
9
that it's just oh the architecture is beautiful make sure to
10
set some time aside to go see the Fisherman's Bastion the Opera House
11
and the whole Jewish Quarter just has unbelievable architecture and
12
that brings me to the second thing that you're gonna love
13
which is the Jewish Quarter it's something special there's something for
14
everybody wonderful food great people a lot of young people the party scene is there we'll get to
15
that in a minute but definitely make sure that you set time aside spend a full day walk into the Jewish Quarter, stumble into the little stores and restaurants, you will not be disappointed.
16
The Jewish Quarter here is, it's just something spectacular.
17
It's very different than the rest of Budapest, but it is, in my opinion, the absolute best.
18
The third thing you're absolutely going to love here in Budapest is actually found in the Jewish Quarter in its ruin bars.
19
I touched on this in the first video, but I didn't really dive into it.
20
Here's all you need to know about them and why they are so cool.
21
said, you know what?
22
Let's hold off.
23
We don't need to renovate it.
24
We don't need to demolish it.
25
We'll work with the building that we have.
26
So they went to flea markets, things like garage sale, and basically took any furniture
27
that people were willing to give up and they moved it into these spaces and turned it into a bar.
28
So you are literally drinking in the ruins of an old building and it is just the coolest experience.
29
The furniture, the decor is just out of this world.
30
It is wacky.
31
There is writing on the walls, graffiti everywhere.
32
It is like the people's
33
success that the business just took off
34
and other room bars started popping up all over the city
35
and they can basically all be found here in the Jewish Quarter
36
and they're just the coolest places to go and get drinks with locals
37
and now quite a few tourists
38
because the things you'll see I mean you're not gonna find anywhere else
39
so definitely go and make sure to check out the room bars because they are wonderful.
40
The fourth thing you'll absolutely love is just the cafe culture and the energy in these cafes.
41
There are cafes everywhere in the city and the culture around it is thriving.
42
Yes, there are even Starbucks and they're thriving too, but the local places are so much better.
43
They're basically always packed with folks.
44
You can find young people, old people, nomads, anybody.
45
They'll be hanging out at the cafes because the coffee is good, the Wi -Fi is strong, and the energy is just unmatched.
46
You're absolutely going to love the cafe culture when you come to Budapest.
47
By the way, if anything's been helpful so far, consider liking this video.
48
It really helps me out and helps more people get access to the information like this.
49
And feel free to subscribe if you want to follow our journey and moving to a new country every month.
50
And the fifth thing you're absolutely gonna love here in Budapest is something I touched on in the first video
51
and it's the food and rather than speak broadly about the goulash and everything else I want to give you specifics.
52
So my favorite bakery, Iran.
53
If you're looking for baked goods go there it's wonderful there's always a line out the door it's worth it.
54
If you're looking for some of the best brunch and healthy options check out a place called Vinyl and Wood.
55
The dishes are exceptional nothing has ever disappointed me there it's just it's a phenomenal spot.
56
If you want a quick dessert there's a place called Gelato Rosa.
57
The gelato is really special for two reasons.
58
One, they have really unique flavors like they have like a chocolate chili
59
and just a bunch of other combinations that you normally wouldn't think of and wouldn't be able to find.
60
And also there's a novelty aspect.
61
They turn all of the gelato into roses.
62
So it's really like Instagram worthy if you're looking for that, but the gelato is actually good itself.
63
The cones could maybe be improved, but everything else is wonderful.
64
It's definitely worth checking out at least one.
65
If you're looking for Middle Eastern food, Dubrumah cannot be matched.
66
It is one of the absolute best.
67
Never had a bad dish at that place.
68
If you're looking to be a little fancy or maybe go on a special date, there's a place called Asensia.
69
It has a Michelin star and it is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the entire world.
70
For a Michelin star restaurant, it's actually pretty affordable.
71
You can easily eat there for like $40 per person, which is just kind of unheard of in the Michelin star place.
72
Nothing there disappoints.
73
It is spectacular, but make sure to make a reservation there.
74
And now that the fun stuff is over, we got to get real.
75
definitely be aware before you come to Budapest.
76
First one, just the amount of drugs that get offered to you.
77
Basically in all the bar hotspots on the streets, you can expect some shady guys standing out there waiting for you to walk by and they're gonna ask you,
78
do you want the good stuff? newsflash say no. Because drugs are very illegal here in Hungary, I don't think you want to end up in their prison system.
79
Just not worth it, but yeah, you're gonna have to say no a lot, so just be prepared for that.
80
Speaking of sketchy, if you're staying in an Airbnb or anything like that, be prepared for some sketchy entrances.
81
A lot of the buildings here, you'll enter this front gate and you'll kind of walk into what looks like a ruined bar without bars and without people.
82
It's like a dark, sketchy hallway and there's basically always a sketchy staircase
83
that you got to take to get up to your actual accommodation.
84
So be aware of that and don't get too scared if you're checking into your Airbnb, you're like, oh my god, where am I?
85
Trust me, you'll be fine.
86
Just wait till you get up to the room, but be prepared for some of those sketchy entrances.
87
Also, one other useful thing to know, most of the buildings that I've encountered here don't have A lot of them will have elevators, but they're not working.
88
So be prepared to take the stairs up.
89
So it might not be a bad idea to ask the
90
Airbnb host before you book what floor is it on and is there a working elevator?
91
That way you can avoid having to lug your suitcases up eight flights of stairs.
92
Not something that's fun, trust me, I've done it.
93
The next thing that you might not like and something
94
that you should be aware of are just which places are maybe overpriced and catering to the tourists.
95
Simplicur, which is that number one ruined bar, it's the original.
96
Just know that the prices in there have gone up.
97
Definitely something that you should walk through, that's probably not the place to do it.
98
Also right outside that ruined bar is the caravan station
99
and again well that's a really cool place to go
100
and see just know that they're charging a premium for the food because they're always packed.
101
The line out of SimpliCurt and in the caravan station is sometimes laughable especially on the weekends and in the evenings.
102
Again though I do want to make it clear they're definitely worth checking out
103
but if you're looking to save the money maybe just don't plan on actually buying anything there.
104
Still walk by and see it but there are other cheaper places available.
105
Two other places come to mind one I believe is pronounced the Gooshdu Passage
106
which is a really cool little street it's a happening in very cool place
107
but all of the restaurants all the bars in there hey in my experience they're not very good
108
and they're definitely all overcharging so again place
109
that I'd walk through probably wouldn't spend any money
110
and the last place
111
that comes to mind is a place called The Magic I think it's basically a Harry Potter themed bar
112
and it's awesome for Instagram pictures and anything like it
113
if you want to go for pictures and maybe just for a drink go for it Absolutely terrible.
114
I mean a complete joke.
115
It's so so bad worst place.
116
I've eaten in all of Budapest
117
McDonald's is better than that place in terms of the food
118
So go and grab a drink there go and take your pictures
119
if you want
120
but definitely don't count on any of the products being good
121
The product is the environment there then the next thing
122
that you might not like is a firm hate for me
123
and it's Restricting access to the grass both for people and for dogs one for some reason so many parks here
124
to go to the bathroom on the street which leads to dirtier streets and sidewalks.
125
That's not cool.
126
Let the dogs use the grass and also let the people use the grass.
127
One of the most beautiful spots in Budapest is right outside the Parliament building.
128
They've got this like a unbelievable green grass.
129
What you're seeing right now is not edited.
130
The grass looks pristine.
131
But you can't go on it.
132
You can't step foot.
133
Now look, I get that you want it to stay nice looking, but...
134
Who cares if it looks nice if nobody can actually enjoy it?
135
I think we should open up the grass to everybody.
136
I say we like I live here, but I'd love for the grass to be open.
137
If not for me, at least for the dog.
138
They deserve at least that much.
139
And the last thing that you might not like
140
or might even hate about Budapest is just how much you actually need to know about the city before visiting.
141
So go and watch the first one because there are 10 more things that are really important to know in that.
142
And let me know in the comment section if you have any questions.
143
Hope it was useful and we'll catch you guys next time.
