Welcome to our series of chasing the sakuras across Japan. If you’re new here, Hi! I’m Ray and my husband Eason, planned this trip. In the last episode,
2
we explored the quieter side of Nara and found one of its most beautiful sakura spots along the Saho River. In this episode, we are hopping on the bullet train to a place
3
close to our hearts: Shizuoka. It’s always been special to us, and we can’t wait to take you along.
4
It’s Day 8 of our spring trip in Japan and today, we’re leaving Kyoto to one of our favourite places — Shizuoka. Of course, no bullet train ride is complete
5
without an ekiben meal and snacks.
6
Arriving at this station is always a thrill — you never know if Mt. Fuji will reveal itself or stay hidden behind the clouds. And once again, we got really lucky!
7
First up, we’re picking up our rental car and heading straight to our first sakura spot : Ryuganbuchi.
8
Renting a car is the best way to get around Shizuoka, and it’s always magical.
9
Are you ready for this breathtaking first spot?
10
Welcome to Ryuganbuchi! The river here flows from Mt. Fuji’s watershed, giving it crystal-clear waters. Let’s go through this flower tunnel for the view on the other side.
11
I love how the cherry blossoms, yellow rapeseed flowers, the gentle stream, and Mt. Fuji all come together — it’s just so picturesque and peaceful.
12
Many families were out here enjoying the scenery, and the weather couldn’t have been better. We came in the afternoon, but mornings are recommended if you want to catch Fuji-san.
13
By now, we were getting a little thirsty, but no problem. Our next spot's just nearby and it has a cozy cafe with beautiful sakura views.
14
And we're here at our second spot, a hilltop park overlooking Fuji City. By this time, Mount Fuji was already hiding behind the clouds.
15
but this latte, the view, and cherry blossoms made up for it.
16
A local sakura festival was happening at the park. Families were here picnicking, enjoying food trucks, and watching performances — it had such a warm, joyful community vibe which we loved.
17
After exploring the park, we couldn't resist joining the festivities. We got a few snacks from the food trucks. Enjoyed some people watching, along with the evening breeze.
18
It was the perfect way to end our first day in Shizuoka.

19
Day two in Fuji City is looking gloomy. The forecast says zero visibility for Mount Fuji. But I've got a feeling we might get lucky.
20
For now, we're switching gears. Time to check out one of Shizuoka’s best things : fresh seafood. Let's hit the fish market.
21
Our next stop is Shizuoka’s local fish market. This place is known as the ‘kitchen of the sea,’ where you can find some of the freshest seafood
22
straight from Japan’s deepest bay!
23
From rich maguro to delicate shirasu and seasonal sakura ebi, this place captures the taste of Shizuoka’s waters.
24
We came here for lunch and had a fresh sashimi rice bowl, which honestly hit the spot.
25
After lunch, we wandered around the market. They had stalls selling everything from from shirasu (whitebait) to sakura ebi, which are these tiny pink shrimp
26
that Shizuoka’s famous for. We even picked up some dried goods to bring home.
27
I was still secretly hoping Mt. Fuji would show up.
28
But we decided to continue driving around and stop by this viewpoint called Satta Pass. It’s actually a really famous spot — even featured in old Japanese artwork
29
from the Edo period. Surprisingly, we had the whole place to ourselves. It was peaceful and beautiful,
30
but we didn't dare go too far. there were bear warnings everywhere!
31
As we left, the weather started to turn a warmer color and i had a feeling that Mt Fuji would appear in spite of today’s forecast.
32
And guess what….
33
Before our next stop, we grabbed some refreshments from 7-Eleven — honestly, konbini stores in Japan never disappoints.
34
We’re back at this special spot — the place where we took some of our favorite photos during our first trip to Japan.
35
It feels really sentimental being here again, sharing another moment with Fuji-san. It was worth believing that the mountain will show up in spite of the odds.
36
It’s our last day here, and we decided to wake up early to soak in a few more moments in town before catching the Shinkansen to Osaka.
37
We’re heading to another sentimental spot, a peaceful place where you can see Mt. Fuji, the sunrise, and the sea.
38
The view of Mount Fuji didn't last long, but it was enough to make waking up early so worth it.
39
Before our next sakura stop, we’re grabbing a quick coffee to start te day right.
40
We made it to our final stop in this town. A beautiful park and shrine surrounded by sakura trees.
41
On a clear day, you can actually see Mount Fuji framed right behind it, making it one of the most iconic photo spots in Shizuoka.
42
Even though Mount Fuji was shy today, the beauty of the place still stood out. There was a nice breeze blowing petals around us and that was really lovely.
43
With our time in Shizuoka coming to an end, we returned the car and boarded the Shinkansen to Osaka — the final stretch of our spring journey.
44
Tonight’s plan is simple: unwind, watch the sunset, and take in the energy of Dotonbori.
45
It’s such a contrast from the peaceful days we just had.

46
Thanks for joining us on our adventure through Shizuoka. Up next — we’ll be exploring one of Japan’s biggest sakura festivals. Thanks for watching.
47
We’ll see you in the next episode!
