She suffered from severe morning sickness and high blood pressure.
40
She had never had high blood pressure in her life.
41
She was closely monitored by doctors and often felt lethargic and nauseous.
42
This made her job as an assistant head quite difficult.
43
She had to move away from her teaching duties and focus more on the office part of the job.
44
That way, she wasn't moving around as much and was less likely to throw up mid-lesson.
45
As Sarah's belly began to swell bigger and bigger, Michael started to panic.
46
What if he was a terrible dad?
47
What if their child was sick?

67
She started to feel strange.
68
She could feel twinges of pain and knew that something was happening.
69
She didn't want to wake Michael yet,
70
so she decided to walk around the house and try and ease the uncomfortable feeling inside her.
71
She made herself a hot drink.
72
This is it, she said,
73
and she took a deep breath.
74
She started to shake.
75
She was scared.
76
She knew she was about to embark on the most pain she will most probably ever experience.
77
And she was petrified.
78
Two hours passed
79
and the pain started to become unbearable She decided it was
80
time to call the midwife She explained the pain she was experiencing
81
and talked through with the midwife about how often the contractions

were happening The midwife advised Sarah to get ready for the hospital and to wake Michael up.
83
She didn't need to rush,
84
but she also shouldn't take her time.
85
Sarah decided to have a quick shower.
86
She felt tired and knew she had a long night ahead of her.
87
She needed to wake up.
88
Then she put on her comfortable clothes and gently woke up Michael.
89
He started to instantly panic and Sarah had to calm him down.
90
Michael took the pre-prepared bags to the car and came back to Sarah.
91
They locked up and made their way to the hospital.
92
The bumpy roads did not help Sarah's pain.
93
The 20-minute journey felt like two hours to her.
94
Once they arrived, the midwives brought her a wheelchair and then led her to her room for the delivery.
95
They gave her an examination and she was already 8 centimetres dilated,
96
only two more to go.
97
Sarah started to take deep breaths on the gas and air
98
and tried to do all the breathing exercises she had been taught.
99
Michael sat next to her,
100
stroking her hand and internally panicking.
101
Hours went by when nothing seemed to happen and then suddenly Sarah shouted,
102
I need to push!
103
The midwives came running in to check her and agreed that it was time.
104
Sarah was as cool as a cucumber,
105
while Michael, who didn't have to do anything,
106
was running around like a headless chicken.
107
Sarah started to lose her patience.
108
If you don't calm down,
109
you're going to have to go.
110
It's not you who's in excruciating pain, so stop it.
111
Michael realised he was being ridiculous and calmed down instantly.

116
but laugh as they gave her their baby boy to hold

She couldn't believe it Her own little boy A new addition to their little family
118
And a new life on the planet She kissed him
119
and handed him back to the midwives So they could check everything was okay By the time Michael came around,

No wonder her belly was so big.

127
They decided they would call him Oliver Michael.
128

If Oliver Michael became half the man her grandad was, she'd be happy.
130
As Sarah dozed off to sleep,

exhausted from the birth, Michael cuddled baby Oliver and cried a little.
