1
Do you ever start talking to someone and not know what to say?
2
That is something that we're going to talk about today.
3
We're going to help you out with over 100 small talk questions
4
and answers because small talk is something that we do a lot of.
5
And I'm really excited because we're going to bring you a fast, spontaneous, native speaker,
6
English lesson conversation with a lot of small talk
7
that you can practice with us you can shadow along you can learn how to ask better questions
8
and give better answers and i have a very special guest with me today the undisputed expert
9
and champion of being my boyfriend mike what's up everybody glad to be here
10
so and if you're new here i'm gabby uh i am your american english fluency coach here at go natural english so
11
So what we're going to do is have this be kind of like a game to see what questions
12
and answers we can think of spontaneously.
13
Because as I said, this is unscripted.
14
We're not just reading because that's boring, right?
15
So we're going to think about what kind of questions we would ask in a small talk situation
16
for 10 different categories of small talk.
17
So we'll share those topics with you and then we'll be brainstorming the questions
18
and answers in the moment i'm super excited
19
because i don't know what we're gonna draw we have a hat a hat with these topics
20
on uh little slips of paper and they're all mixed up and we don't know what we're gonna choose
21
and we're gonna see if we can get to 10 questions
22
and answers for each topic all right
23
if we can't make it you know we'll just move on
24
but we're gonna do our best should i keep count yeah we'll have to keep count
25
i don't know how we're gonna do this but we'll do our best all right okay so
26
So is there anything else before we jump in?
27
Oh, I wanted to ask actually, because we're making this video on small talk, right?
28
But we've had discussions before where we actually have admitted to each other how we feel about small talk yeah
29
so mike how do you feel about small talk small talk's
30
hard for me honestly uh even as a native english speaker
31
it sometimes it's hard to to just jump into talking about stuff
32
that seems mundane or every day
33
or kind of boring sometimes i like those juicier topics
34
so yes it's something i need to work on myself
35
i feel the same no i don't particularly always enjoy small talk
36
because it can feel very repetitive right i mean we know english
37
this is our native language we've probably asked the same small talk questions hundreds
38
if not thousands of times in our lives and
39
so sometimes it can feel a little boring
40
but hopefully we'll bring some spicy questions so
41
that you know you have a lot of options i think small talk can be fun
42
if you have good questions to ask
43
and you don't just stick to the same one question like how are you where are you from
44
so what do you do what do you do yeah what
45
do you do although i probably will ask you what you do we're gonna pretend
46
that we don't know each other as well as we do
47
so like for some of these questions you might wonder like really gabby
48
you don't know what your boyfriend does for work
49
this is for the purpose of this this video all right
50
do you you want to pick first ladies ladies first okay okay okay uh
51
if i pick the topic then you have to start with the first question okay okay weather and seasonal events
52
so gabby what's your favorite season oh my favorite season is fall
53
because it's not too hot not too cold
54
and i'm not going to ask what about you although
55
if we were having an actual conversation i would probably say what about you
56
or how about you and notice that when i say
57
that i'm not saying each word very separately i don't say what about you you'd probably think
58
that was a little weird what about you what about you
59
so or how about you um okay so another question about weather
60
or seasonal events have you seen the weather report for today no
61
i haven't checked it yet i mean just looking at the sky
62
i'm thinking we're in for a really nice beautiful day
63
but you never know this time you never know
64
but it is beautiful right now we're very lucky
65
if you could pick your favorite type of weather to go
66
have a picnic what type of weather would you choose oh definitely summer uh
67
and we actually did have a really great picnic a few weeks ago uh
68
and the weather was perfect it wasn't too hot
69
because we did it in the evening and yeah it was just beautiful
70
so summer is perfect for picnics for me um do you know if it's going to rain later today
71
no i don't um i didn't check the weather report so um i can get on my phone and do that
72
wait hold on i'm laughing
73
because i'm really i'm really pushing 10 % chance i'm really pushing to know if you
74
if you checked the weather day yeah actually
75
i did look at the weather no
76
it's not gonna rain maybe tomorrow how do you feel about
77
rainy days like what do you like to do on a rainy day oh
78
that's actually a great question i enjoy a rainy day
79
or a snow day because it kind of forces you to stay indoors inside
80
and read a book or organize your stuff
81
or catch up on chores you know laundry or whatnot um
82
and it's it's nice because you don't have as many options sometimes
83
when the weather is nice i just want to do everything i want to be everywhere
84
and um you have less options when it's raining or snowing right
85
so reading a book
86
or watching a movie would be my top two choices i kind of love rainy days for
87
that reason yeah just to get to indoors
88
and be cozy yes to be cozy do you have any favorite
89
because we're in summer now right it's august as we're filming this do you have any favorite summer events
90
or festivals that you like to go to you know we're here in maine
91
and it's just an amazing you know touristic place to be in summer
92
so i'm curious if or have you been to any interesting events
93
or festivals yeah so for me i'm a little bit of a nerd
94
so i like going to a renaissance fair i like getting dressed up in silly clothing
95
and watching clowns and performances and fun stuff
96
and maybe eating a giant turkey leg oh wow you know
97
that's like a great summertime activity is to go to renaissance fair i love
98
that yeah i love
99
that yeah i would say um
100
there's some really interesting festivals around here like there's a seaweed festival i have not been
101
but i would like to go to i think
102
there's an oyster festival there is i would love to go to
103
that there was a clam festival i thought about going to
104
but i did not there's probably a lobster festival there has to there has to be yeah
105
but don't tell anyone this is a secret
106
i don't really like lobster okay all right anyway you're safe with me
107
because i don't either you don't either i don't either that's wonderful it's good for us yes um there's
108
so much in common okay let me think another question also
109
i lost count i have i've completely lost count well
110
i i think you asked the last one about festivals right is
111
that maybe six or so i think that was six okay
112
so we have a few more to go it's my turn oh
113
it's your turn i think oh yeah
114
you're right yeah okay all right um all right in terms of your clothing
115
and like what you like to wear like what's your favorite season for clothing for fashion oh definitely summer
116
because i love wearing dresses even though i'm not wearing one today
117
i love wearing summer dresses like long flowing skirts
118
and in summer you can wear some really fun dresses I mean not you
119
but one when I say you try new things no judgment no judgment
120
if that's what you want to do
121
but yeah it's just nice for me to be able to wear all my dresses I actually have
122
if you look at all my clothes probably 80 % of
123
my clothing is summer clothing yeah did you see the hail the other day yes
124
that was crazy it was crazy because it's august it's the middle of summer
125
and we had a big storm
126
and hail i couldn't believe it yeah i was inside in my home and i
127
and i heard these you know these pieces of ice crashing against the window i was like what was
128
that yeah that's pretty rare for maine i was a little nervous
129
that like my car was gonna get dented up
130
but luckily it was like small pieces of yeah no problem yeah
131
but that was cool that was that was interesting all right gabby um
132
so sometimes i have a hard time figuring out like how to get outside in the winter
133
when the weather is really cool do you have any favorite winter hobbies
134
or activities that you like to do outdoors definitely
135
so here in maine i love cross -country skiing yeah
136
if we get a good snow i'll even take my dog out
137
and take her with me i've tried to get her to pull me on the cross -country skis
138
but we haven't quite gotten there yet um
139
but yeah i love cross -country skiing
140
or even like going on a winter hike um trying to think what else yeah
141
that's probably it yeah i met someone
142
that said they do back country ice skating like they go find frozen rivers
143
and frozen lakes and then they go ice skating in oh my gosh like the wilderness
144
and nature i thought that was super cool wow
145
that is interesting i hope they have a good way to make sure
146
that the water is completely frozen because that's my fear is like
147
that it's not completely ready to skate on but i'm sure they
148
got that covered yeah yeah nice day isn't it it's gorgeous today this honestly like these are the days
149
that i live for like this days like this make living in maine
150
so worthwhile yes it's sunny it's not humid it's dry
151
there's a little breeze in the air like i couldn't ask
152
for a better day agreed yeah all right uh your pick here let's take
153
this one out hmm work what do you do well that's our first question right there uh -huh uh
154
so i am an english fluency coach here at go natural english um okay
155
i am going to ask how about you okay um
156
so i am an outdoor educator
157
so i've been a park ranger i've been a naturalist for the city of portland
158
i've been the director of summer camps for kids doing nature program as a kid
159
so that's what i love to do i love connecting people to nature
160
and the outdoors that's amazing okay so how long have you been doing
161
that wow about 20 years at this point oh my goodness
162
so um i spent over seven years as a park ranger in new york city
163
and i taught people believe it
164
or not outdoor survival skills in the middle of new york in new york city that's
165
canoeing and camping and fishing and all those fun things
166
that you wouldn't think of when you about new york city
167
so that was a really fun job that is
168
so cool to me it's it's super interesting
169
that you've been teaching english as a career
170
and professional like what do you love about
171
that like what is maybe what's really rewarding about
172
that career well i love inspiring people uh sometimes
173
when people are learning a new language like english
174
they don't feel very confident they feel shy they're not sure how to speak up i don't know
175
if you can relate to that but I like to encourage
176
and inspire people to speak up and tell their stories
177
and connect with other people yeah I think you're very good at it thank you
178
I really want to copy that same question
179
because I want to know let me let me tweak it a little bit what inspires you about the work
180
that you do hmm
181
so in my career doing outdoor education I've worked with all ages
182
I've worked with kids i've worked with adults i've worked with families seniors you name it
183
so but i would say working with kids is to me the most inspiring thing
184
because you know for me i i truly believe
185
that nature is healing and
186
that as you know trying to do some good in the world one of the best things
187
i can do is to get people excited about nature yes because when you care about something
188
when you love something you want to take care of it yes
189
so for me um teaching kids about nature getting them out to nature
190
and form that relationship in nature that means
191
that they're going to grow up and want to take care of it
192
so i feel like not only are the kids getting a lot out of it
193
but then i'm helping to grow the next generation of conservationists
194
and people that care about the natural world
195
and will protect it i love that
196
and let me just say it's it feels slightly unnatural to go back
197
and forth the way we are
198
but we're trying to share as many different questions as possible hitting 100 folks yeah
199
we're gonna do it we're gonna do it okay
200
but i do have another question
201
if you don't have one are you please how did you get started in your career
202
so it's a really kind of interesting story i studied psychology in school
203
so i studied counseling psychology and then right out of college i took a job doing work with foster families
204
in the south bronx and that job was so stressful
205
that i basically i lived next to a park in new york city
206
and after work i would just go over to the park to relax
207
and calm down and de -stress and eventually i said you know what one way
208
or another i'm going to find a way to work in this park wow
209
and i sure enough i found out that there were urban park rangers and the rest is history I became a ranger,
210
and that's kind of been my career since.
211
That's awesome.
212
You did it.
213
I did it.
214
Yeah, I love it.
215
All right.
216
So tell me about some other jobs that you had before you became an English teacher.
217
Yeah, I taught several other topics, actually.
218
I taught Spanish.
219
I taught sailing.
220
Okay.
221
I taught keyboarding, which is how to type.
222
Okay.
223
Yeah.
224
I think those are all my teaching jobs
225
i also worked in after school programs for the city of portland also um
226
so that was more of like being a camp counselor
227
and taking care of little kids before and after school
228
but then i realized that i i enjoy working with college students
229
and adults even more um so i kind of gravitated to doing
230
that very cool yeah what would be your dream job
231
and this is not really small talk we're getting into like more deeper questions i like it
232
but yeah i know but i think it's okay you know uh
233
so yeah what is what would be your dream job
234
i think what is your dream job is a totally appropriate small talk question thank you i think
235
that's a -okay and that makes it more interesting
236
and you form a better bond with somebody
237
if you really know them sure
238
i mean maybe not the first question like what's your name what's your dream job i mean but maybe I wouldn't mind.
239
You never know.
240
I wouldn't mind.
241
Okay.
242
All right.
243
So, what is your team tag?
244
Honestly, I would like to be the successor to Anthony Bourdain.
245
Oh, my gosh.
246
Like, rest in peace.
247
So, like, a chef or, like, a...
248
No, more just someone that gets to travel the world, eating a bunch of amazing food,
249
meeting a bunch of really interesting people from all over the world.
250
I feel like we can make that happen like
251
if you all are watching and you're living in different countries
252
and you want to help us travel the world
253
and eat great food leave a comment we'll even cook for you i mean yeah
254
he's a good cook it's true yes okay
255
so i feel like your dream job is closer than it may seem maybe
256
this is the beginning right now yeah making that happen yeah okay
257
see what happens
258
when you go a little further into yeah yes more than yes yes get people out of the shell yes
259
it's a good thing well let's oh i think i asked the last question yes okay um
260
and i really want to turn around and ask what your dream job is but we're trying not to copy so
261
instead i would probably say the same thing what's the worst job you ever had like what's the job
262
that you're just like i need to quit this is awful um well the first one
263
that came to mind it may not actually be the worst one
264
but the first one
265
that came to mind was I was a waitress for just a few months I was in college
266
and I was waiting tables and it was breakfast
267
so I had to wake up at 5 in the morning to get there by 6 a .m.
268
that's when the breakfast the restaurant opened for breakfast and
269
so just that fact was a little bit difficult for me you know
270
and then it was fine I didn't mind it so much
271
but I think just that shift being so early that was hard
272
because as a student I was staying up late studying
273
and just it didn't quite fit with my routine
274
but again I was you know 19
275
I was just uh just doing what I could do to make ends meet
276
so I'm glad I had
277
that experience though even though it wasn't maybe the most enjoyable schedule
278
we've all had survival jobs just to pay rent
279
and get it done yes yeah absolutely but i'm very fortunate
280
that most of my life i've been working for myself with go natural english
281
and doing this so i feel very very grateful very fortunate would you rather work the day shift
282
but only have five vacation days a year or work the night shift
283
and have 30 vacation days a year i mean my first reaction is to definitely say night shift for sure
284
because i'm kind of a little bit of a night owl myself
285
but then my biggest concern is like if i'm working the night shift
286
and and you're not oh i i wouldn't get to spend enough time with you um
287
so in that regards but i know how important travel is as well
288
so it's hard to pass up those vacation days too
289
so i would say i would probably work the night shift okay
290
and do those vacations and then you can record your videos at night
291
and then oh yeah okay problem solved well
292
and hopefully we don't have to choose between those two options they're not ideal options yeah
293
but i had to ask you a question yeah tell me
294
like what did your parents do for work oh yeah
295
so my dad was a counselor uh he was a vocational counselor
296
which means he helped people find jobs
297
so a vocation is your work i thought of another question oh good okay
298
so what are you working on right now i am working on uh recording
299
videos literally right now we're recording a video yeah
300
and creating some new courses and relaunching some exciting things here at go natural english that's exciting yeah
301
well i think that's 10
302
so should we pick another one i think it's my turn
303
i think it is your turn all right oh oh no oh no
304
i think that's the one that's the one okay yeah okay okay
305
oh no news or personal updates oh okay okay so did you see the news
306
that's my question that's my question
307
i guess i should be more specific what have i seen in the news lately
308
that caught my interest um let's launch did you see
309
that okay so i i don't want to talk about politics i really don't
310
but did you see the news about um about there's this
311
tall ship in portland called the eagle oh really yeah okay
312
and they're they're offering tours on it which is pretty cool because so it's a historic.
313
tall ship and the coast guard is using it for training
314
so i think that's kind of interesting
315
so did you hear the news about the eagle i did not
316
but i think like what just happened was really cool
317
because it was like a topic that you wanted to talk about
318
so you almost kind of used like
319
that as an intro question be like hey did you hear about this thing yes
320
and then i can talk about it let me tell you yes let me tell you all about the eagle
321
so that's like a cool small talk thing too yes yes did you hear about
322
so and so did you hear about yeah did you hear the news
323
yeah um no actually so i'll do the same did you hear
324
that actually this path that we're right nearby they just built an extension on this
325
so then now you can take a bike ride on this
326
path 16 miles all the way down to downtown saco that's amazing it's really cool actually i did hear
327
because you told me yesterday but i'm trying to act surprised
328
but but that is that is great news actually that's the kind of news
329
that i want to hear i would love to do
330
that with you someday i would love to do
331
that too i love riding bikes yeah so
332
that would be fun awesome um so i know
333
that you have been interviewing for some new opportunities
334
so how did your last interview go oh yeah um
335
it's going well like i uh i felt really good about the interview uh it was a job
336
that definitely interesting and i think might be a good fit um
337
and they actually emailed and said
338
that they want to send me to the next round of interviews
339
so i guess i guess it went well yeah yeah congratulations
340
because i've heard it's a very difficult time to be interviewing
341
so yeah yeah yeah I feel feel good about it yeah that's great um all right
342
so tell me what you're excited about uh this last week like I love
343
that question I am excited about moving forward with some renovation projects actually
344
so the home I have here is under renovation um there's actually a few units it's a fourplex
345
so we're doing a lot of work like new roof new windows um new bathroom new kitchen
346
it's just like a lot so i'm very excited
347
that i have some good people who are working on things
348
so this week i think we're going to make a lot of progress
349
and by the end of this coming week i will be moving from one apartment to another
350
so i'm excited for that move
351
so a lot of things going on to be excited about do you need help moving
352
i do would you help me i would
353
does that count as my question um we're gonna play the game where we just ask each other questions
354
and no statements i don't think that's a small talk question
355
i don't think i don't think asking someone asking someone to help you move is not a small talk
356
that's pretty serious yeah i guess things are getting pretty serious what's on your agenda for this week i'm
357
so glad you asked so being that it's the weekend um i am very excited
358
that today there is an event that has salsa dance lessons
359
and a salsa dance social event
360
and i happen to know somebody who's really into salsa dancing
361
so i get to go out dancing with my uh very gorgeous girlfriend who knows how to dance very well
362
i think
363
that sounds like an amazing plan an amazing agenda are you going to give me a quick lesson before
364
we go
365
so i don't embarrass myself you're you'll do fine okay
366
you'll do fine you'll do you are doing great you're already okay you're already great all right yes but
367
if you want yes
368
i will please have you checked the forecast for this coming week is there any rain coming is
369
that totally lame that's a lame question well no i mean like
370
um i i i think there's a little rain coming um
371
i couldn't think of a better question right now wait
372
i have one related to the salsa dance thing yes have you ever
373
because i like asking have you ever questions have you ever danced salsa
374
yes i have i mean i'm starting to learn right now
375
so i've i've been able to go to a couple lessons
376
so far um
377
but it's very new to me like i feel like i'm a decent dancer
378
i feel like i have good rhythm yeah
379
but it's hard for me to learn specific steps like right foot here left foot here right less tricky
380
so yeah it's it's challenging but it's a fun challenge it's something
381
that i'm i'm excited about
382
because it's you know it's good to try new things
383
it's good to like expand your your boundaries yeah have you done any traveling lately uh yes actually
384
couple weeks ago i went to new york city and that was also for a dance event okay it was amazing
385
the location of the dance event was in times square
386
so it was very touristic
387
there were a lot of people a lot of things going on it literally all hours of the day
388
and night because as you know new york city is the city
389
that doesn't sleep especially time square yes
390
so i really enjoyed it was three days i think three days no four days three nights if i remember correctly
391
and every day was full of dancing
392
and um pretty you know fun lessons good food um
393
i walked around a lot i think every day between dancing and walking around the times square area i was
394
at least taking 20 000 steps wow at least yeah all right
395
so you know i'm a big foodie yes
396
and used to live in new york city
397
and used to live in new york city
398
so like what's the best thing
399
that you ate in new york city okay well
400
you know some of the time i was just going to the supermarket
401
and you know just eating very simply i like to i like to eat simply
402
when i'm traveling alone especially um
403
so i did get some supermarket food trying to think what else did i eat
404
when i was there something in the breakfast realm oh yes oh my gosh yes
405
so i i stopped at this food truck that had great breakfast sandwiches
406
and that's kind of a thing in new york city to
407
get a breakfast sandwich like yes old school how do you
408
order yours b -e -c -s -p -k baby all right tell us at home
409
that is new york city lingo it means bacon egg
410
and cheese with salt pepper and ketchup so i ordered
411
that the first day yes
412
because you told me your favorite i was like okay i want to try this that's go to yes
413
and you were not there with me sadly
414
but i ate it for you
415
and it was very good it's a little bit salty
416
but it was good i'm a little bit salty
417
so it was it was delicious and then the next day i went back
418
and i got i got a little different version i got uh it was on a croissant
419
so i think it was sausage egg
420
and cheese on a croissant no salt pepper ketchup mayo none of that
421
so i'm getting hungry just talking about this i'm a little hungry yeah okay let's
422
i'm gonna go with another question okay yes
423
that inspired me yes what's the best thing
424
that you've had to eat lately like what's what's what's turned
425
you on in terms of food lately you made us cheeseburgers the other night
426
that was like really good plus it's still fresh in my memory
427
but they were really delicious thank you i like how you put jam on the on the bun
428
because it's like the sweet and the salty
429
and then you put jalapenos in it too
430
it's really good sweet salty spicy cheesy umami see we told
431
you he can cook yeah well what's new in your life um
432
so what's new in my life is uh
433
i started learning how to salsa dance yeah all right all right um i mean having a very beautiful girlfriend
434
that does english lessons is kind of a new thing in my life
435
and i'm very much enjoying
436
that that's been the most exciting thing in my life lately um oh i finally got out on my kayak
437
so i love to go i love to go kayaking in the summer
438
but because of just being
439
so busy lately i hadn't had a chance to get out on the kayaks
440
so that was really really fun to get out there
441
and be on the water and just enjoy that
442
that hobby it was beautiful okay i'm gonna pick the next topic restaurants
443
or things around town this topic is definitely gonna make me hungry
444
we're going to ask like 20 questions about this yeah okay
445
so the obvious is do you have a favorite restaurant i do um
446
so for me there's a japanese place called izakaya minato shout
447
out free publicity um no connection not making any money um
448
but no like they're just it's like japanese pub food yes
449
so they have like a little bit of sushi
450
they have a little bit of fried food they have just all
451
that japanese comfort food um that i really really love
452
and every time i go it's just really consistent and really good
453
so that's my favorite place okay um
454
and i'm breaking the rule what's your favorite place yeah
455
you can ask me i really love a restaurant called scales
456
it's like modern it does have a lot of seafood
457
because scales you know scales on a fish uh
458
but they have other things too and it's just creative
459
and they have really good scallops i like scallops a lot very uh beautiful setting too on the water
460
so you're a seafood lover i do like seafood
461
i am looking for a restaurant um in south portland to
462
try can you recommend any restaurant absolutely what type of food
463
are you in the mood for what type would you be looking for maybe like typical like diner food yeah
464
so not too far from where we are here there's a place called q street diner okay
465
and it's like very classic american mom and pop diner oh i love that like a fun term in english
466
but i was also in greasy spoon greasy spoon yes greasy spoon uh it just means like not fancy
467
just low down easy food like good food yeah it doesn't mean
468
that the place is dirty right doesn't mean
469
that they don't wash their silverware no
470
but you're not gonna get sick eating there no
471
but it just means that like it's just it's relaxed yeah it's a relaxed environment and mom
472
and pop is such a great term too it's not a chain yes it's not like a place
473
that you can find anywhere right like starbucks
474
or something it's uh individually owned yes okay key street diner recommend thank you for the recommendation
475
so do you like going out more for breakfast lunch
476
or dinner all the above i love eating um
477
but i would say probably dinner okay
478
i think dinner is traditional to like just go eat a big meal like i know
479
it's great to eat a big meal at lunch too
480
but yeah for me like i want to go to dinner
481
eat a big meal maybe get some dessert maybe have a drink
482
or something with that so yeah i would say dinner is my preferred dining experience
483
when i go out to a restaurant okay
484
if you could pick one type of food that is your favorite
485
so like maybe Japanese maybe Mexican maybe a diner maybe like one genre of food what would be your favorite food
486
I like a lot of different kinds of food
487
but I spent a lot of time in Asia teaching English in Japan
488
and then traveling and I loved the food
489
that I got to try in Vietnam and Thailand
490
so I would say well can i just say asian food okay yeah yeah it's a very wide category
491
but yeah yeah yeah i am a fan um of japanese vietnamese thai food korean food um
492
i'm just getting hungry even thinking about it okay yeah do you like spicy food can you handle
493
i do yeah it depends like i want to be able to taste my food
494
but i do like a little kick yeah yeah
495
it's it's fun like the jalapenos you put in the burgers those are
496
or on top of the burgers yes under the button yes um
497
i can just cut that out my burger secrets the jalapeno placement is very important
498
it's one of my secrets if i have a friend visiting or actually i think my brother might come to visit
499
what are three restaurants you would recommend to take someone to here in portland all right
500
so i'm thinking you want restaurants that kind of like typify portland yes by name
501
so something unique right so don't tell us to go to starbucks nothing against starbucks
502
but you can go there anywhere literally anywhere in the world
503
you can find a starbucks um i would say olive garden really represents portland no stop okay all right
504
so um even though i'm not the biggest seafood person
505
i would recommend a place called even tide oyster company yeah um
506
i know people love them they get really really good reviews they have really fresh shellfish
507
and seafood that came from like right here in the greater portland area
508
and maine so i think that's like a really good portland restaurant it kind of like yeah on
509
that same street i'm gonna go with a place called duck fat oh yeah
510
and duck fat is a little more like relaxed kind of like maybe a good lunch place
511
but they have really really good sandwiches um they're called duck fat
512
because they have french fries that are fried in duck fat with like lots of dipping sauces and things like that
513
and they probably make the best milkshakes in all of maine from what i've experienced really really amazing milkshakes okay so
514
that would be another one of my top recommendations on the right
515
there hmm let's think for a third to round it out
516
i feel like we need like a breakfast spot okay all right somewhere i could get blueberry pancakes
517
because blueberries are very big in
518
maine so this might be the most obvious recommendation
519
because it is a little touristy it is a tourist spot
520
but uh becky's diner i knew you were gonna say
521
that i mean it's quintessential right it's quintessential um they do a good job there um
522
but yeah becky's diner um has all sorts local main stuff main blueberry pancakes
523
and good solid breakfast food and eggs and bacon and
524
and i would add a good uh alternative to becky's smaller
525
and a little bit lesser known can you guess what i'm going to say not q street diner
526
but they're good too um miss portland diner no I've actually never been there either of I what next day
527
all right i was gonna say marcy's diner do you know
528
that one i don't okay it's it's small
529
you can probably only see 20 people in there yeah uh very closely
530
but i used to go there all the time
531
when i was a student um you know they're very fairly priced and generally
532
if you go to a diner it's going to be good prices a greasy spoon a greasy spoon yes
533
so yeah i love marcy's diner they have these um they they they cook
534
or they they grill muffins
535
and they have the best blueberry muffins sold huh okay
536
i want to stop filming right now let's go we're gonna have
