Today I'm going to talk about the Vietnam War.

As you can see in my sketch note, the war lasted from 1954 to 1975.

It was a long and complex conflict that had a major impact on Vietnam and the world.

1954, Vietnam was divided into two parts after the end of French colonial rule.

The North was led by Ho Chi Minh and followed communism.

The South had a different government and was supported by the United States.

This division is shown in my drawing with two separate areas on the map.

Because of this division, there was a growing conflict between the North and the South.

North Vietnam wanted to reunify the country under one system, while South Vietnam wanted to remain separate.

This political difference was one of the main causes of the war.

Next, in 1964, the war became much larger.

After an event called the Gulf of Tonkin incident, the United States increased its military involvement.

During the war, many people lost their lives.

About 58,000 American soldiers died, and millions of Vietnamese people were killed.

This shows how serious and devastating the war was.

In 1968, there was an important event called the Tet Offensive.

This was a large and surprising attack by North Vietnamese forces.

It changed public opinion, especially in the United States, and made many people question the war.

Later, President Richard Nixon began to reduce U.S.

involvement in the war.

He introduced policies to withdraw American troops and start peace negotiations.

In 1973, a ceasefire was signed.

This meant that the United States began to withdraw its troops and stop fighting.

Finally, in 1975, the war ended.

Vietnam became one country again, which is shown in my drawing with the flag and people celebrating.

This event is called reunification.

So the Vietnam War was a long conflict caused by political differences and foreign involvement.

By looking at the timeline from 1954 to 1975, we can see how the war started, developed, and finally ended.
