Hi everyone and welcome to today's video session.

My name is Thomas and I'm one of the IELTS teachers here at Lango Learning System.

Our online video sessions are designed to help you improve a

certain aspect of one of the four key competencies for your IELTS exam, in this case speaking.

Today we will deal with a frequent topic which we encounter in the IELTS speaking exam the environment.

First let's look at some examples from part one.

Do you think pollution is a big problem nowadays?
8
Yeah definitely, the pollution of our air has reached an alarming level in modern times.
9
People all over the world are witnessing the grave levels of pollution caused by the growing number of exhaust fumes
10
and other pollutants which results in very poor air quality.

What do you do to prevent our environment from pollution.

Actually, I do quite a lot of things.

Firstly, I don't litter, you know, throwing away rubbish and things like that, which generally degrade the environment.

Plus, my family has tried to increase the amount of environmentally friendly goods that we daily use.

I also reuse leftover printed paper to scribble notes to limit paper consumption.
16
And I bring my own bottle to avoid using single -use plastics.

have you ever participated in any environmental events recently I took part in an event in my province

which was about shielding nature on that day I discovered more solutions

that helped me reduce the greenhouse effect

and how we can save some of the endangered species in

the world now let's move on to look at some part

two examples on the topic of environment now have a look at a card and prepare the monologue.

Describe an environmental problem or event.

You should say what is it?

Where is it happening?

What problems does it cause?

If I could talk about any environmental problem, it would have to be global warming.

It's one of the most severe issues that is affecting the lives of the world's citizens.

It mainly results from the greenhouse effect.

In our contemporary world the living activities of people generate excessive amounts of greenhouse gases particularly by burning fossil fuels

or by the emissions from cars
32
and planes these gases block the heat from getting out of the earth's atmosphere
33
and interferes with the natural balances that protect the earth from the potential damage of the sun's rays
34
global warming has been changing the world's climate significantly
35
and causing various problems including glaciers melting which contributes to the rise of sea levels all over the world.

Due to this, people in coastal areas have had to face increasing floods
37
and storms and crops have also been badly damaged or even destroyed.

As it's a global problem, I worry that our individual efforts will not greatly reduce it

but our joint efforts of the community will hopefully have more of an effect.

Finally, let's look at some examples for part three.

In which ways do people damage our planet?

From my perspective the earth has been damaged in various ways.

One of the most visual examples is the improper dumping of household waste by humans
44
which then often runs into rivers or lakes.

The increasing numbers of factories also causes water pollution
46
because some of them don't use waste treatment systems
47
or they ignore the local rules and regulations which makes the water become more and more contaminated.

Do you think that the environmental situation will improve in the near future?

Yeah I do.

People's awareness of their environment has improved because of the serious problems we are facing.

I believe that people will get back to nature
52
and to care about our global village more in the future as we seek ways to solve these problems.
