1
Hey GQ, I'm Jensen Ackles and these are the 10 things that I can't live without.
2
Drowning out the world.
3
My Apple headphones.
4
I mean, I'll pick like a song and I'll be like, AI the rest.
5
Let's see what journey this is.
6
I'll go from like Tyler Childers to Metallica to some jazz.
7
It just depends on the mood I'm in.
8
You'll see I've got the small phone.
9
This is strictly like texting and talking.
10
It's something I try not to be glued to my face.
11
And of course, reading, working, communicating, my iPad.
12
I'm gonna be honest, I just watch movies on it.
13
That's all I do.
14
I will download all my scripts onto these.
15
I can make notes on them, and it's always just nice to have them on person at all time.
16
Although I am a bit old school, I do like getting a hard copy of them from time to time, and that way I can really mark them up but this way I always have them with me.
17
A case, no, no. So what's inside the case?
18
A solid pair of sunglasses.
19
You gotta have sunglasses, not just to look cool.
20
That's fine, that's what you're into, but I've got light eyes, so the sun is a little bit more effective on me,
21
and it's always nice to have a pair.
22
These are Jacques Marie Marge, which are some fancy glasses.
23
But my wife bought them for me, so I don't know.
24
If I'm going in, if I'm shopping for some shades, I will try to find the person working there that I think has the best sense of style.
25
And I will try on several and just go, what do we think?
26
And when I get thumbs up, that's usually when I, but man, I will, if I'm running low,
27
I will go in and buy like three or four pair and then I'm done for like a couple years.
28
I rotate, you know, between about three or four pair.
29
I always keep a pair on me.
30
I lose them, I misplace them, I break them.
31
I'm not kind to them.
32
You know, it's always like the drugstore ones that stick around the longest.
33
You can't get rid of them.
34
You throw them out the window down the highway and then somehow end up in the back seat, so.
35
An amazing suitcase.
36
Now I am a, I'd like to say an expert packer.
37
I could live for close to two weeks out of this thing right here.
38
But I've traveled a lot, I continue to travel a lot.
39
I've tried a lot of different suitcases and this is the one that has beat them all.
40
It's a Ramoa.
41
Literally if I see somebody with it, I'm like, ah, you know, you get it.
42
They are incredibly sturdy, incredibly well built.
43
If anything happens to them, you can literally drop them off at any shop around the world because they are everywhere.
44
They will fix it on site, get it back to you within minutes.
45
But its best feature, in my opinion, is I can just sit on this thing, right in the terminal, waiting, I don't have to look for a seat.
46
I can just plop down right on this thing.
47
It supports my weight.
48
Thanks, Ramoa.
49
Keep making what you make.
50
A pen.
51
I mean, I've gone through the really nice pens, the Mont Blancs or the crosses or all those things now.
52
Just a straight up uniball air.
53
I mark up my scripts every morning when I show up on set.
54
This is the pen I reach for.
55
And I will say I've lost many of these.
56
And I thought I was losing my mind when I realized
57
that my kids were taking them out of my backpack and using them to write me notes.
58
Which brings me to my next thing I cannot live without.
59
My kids like to surprise me with notes and art.
60
They'll throw it in my bag before I depart for wherever I'm going.
61
These are the latest masterpieces.
62
This one is from my son.
63
He drew a die, I guess.
64
Not dice, but I guess it could be dice.
65
I don't know, what's the...
66
Jury's out on that one.
67
There was thought.
68
I was like, did you just randomly...
69
He's like, no, dad, that's you and mom.
70
Here's the three kids.
71
And that's Frank, our dog.
72
His twin sister, she's eight.
73
That's not bad.
74
She looked at a stuffed animal and just recreated that.
75
She's a bit of an artiste.
76
She also does comic strips.
77
So sometimes I'll get little comics that are really cool.
78
This one came with a note.
79
It said, I love you very much.
80
I want you to know that I miss you so much when you leave.
81
I don't ever want you to leave ever, ever, ever again.
82
Love, Arrow, your number one child.
83
Then she's got all this art stuff on the back.
84
Those are tough and beautiful to read all at the same time.
85
My oldest, my 12 year old, she says this to me every time I leave, she's like, she looks me in the eye and she's like, please be safe.
86
I'm like, what?
87
You killing me, kid.
88
I don't know what she thinks is gonna happen to me, maybe she's seen too many Supernatural episodes, she thinks some monsters or demons are gonna attack me, But it is very sweet and it's,
89
again, it's very hard to read but also very heartwarming to read.
90
So, ah, kids.
91
This doesn't cut itself.
92
And I've been through tons of these trying to find a good beard trimmer.
93
This is the latest find by Manscaped.
94
You guys nailed it with this one.
95
This does everything I need it to.
96
It's like highly adjustable.
97
It can give you a fade if you need to.
98
It can trim out some lines.
99
This is something that goes with me everywhere.
100
This next one has a little bit of a story.
101
There's no markings on it.
102
I don't know what it is.
103
Eric Dane sent me to his, What would, not a, not a,
104
what's a, like a face, facialist maybe?
105
Dermatologist?
106
Maybe it's a dermatologist.
107
I don't know.
108
Eric Dane's like, hey, you gotta go see this lady.
109
She's fantastic.
110
She's gonna hook you up.
111
And she's like, you fly a lot, don't you?
112
I can see it.
113
And I'm like, what?
114
There's like a roadmap on my face.
115
And she's like, here, take this face oil, put it on when you get on a plane.
116
Your skin's gonna love it.
117
There's literally no markings.
118
I don't know what this is, but hey, doctor's orders.
119
Between my wife and any makeup artist I've ever worked with, the resounding note is hydration, hydration, hydration.
120
So, La Mer, expensive, yes.
121
Does it work?
122
Yes.
123
I think it does, I don't know.
124
Maybe not perfect for me, I don't know.
125
I don't know, but it works, and it means the C.
126
Isn't La Mer French for the C?
127
God, I hope I'm right on that.
128
That'd be so cool.
129
It's just like wiping the sea all over your, that sounds bad.
130
It literally doesn't leave my wrist.
131
A timepiece, something to tell time.
132
I have an affection, some might call an obsession, with mechanical watches.
133
I have a number of them that I rotate between.
134
This one is my vintage Submariner 5513 for any of those nerds out there.
135
I always keep a watch on, even if I'm on set playing a character.
136
I usually always pick out a watch because I always want to have something on my wrist.
137
If I don't, I feel like something's wrong in the world.
138
I am mildly obsessed with it.
139
I like having it.
140
Plus, it's like really the only thing for a guy, jewelry-wise, other than if you're married,
141
that you can really kind of get away with and play with.
142
It's something that I will forever have, and you know, it's dad's watch.
143
It's very important.
144
Some supplements, some fuel for the road.
145
I keep a bag of this stuff called Optimize Minerals.
146
Started taking it, I don't know, maybe about a year ago.
147
It's a great kind of electrolyte blend of good stuff.
148
Usually it's the first thing I put on my stomach in the morning is a big, big, tall glass of water with this in it.
149
And it does the trick on a multitude of levels, if you know what I mean.
150
I always have some sort of protein bar in my bag.
151
I usually have a couple of them, different ones.
152
Today I've got Quest.
153
Cookies and Cream's the best one, I think.
154
I usually will always have some sort of snack in my bag in case the airplane food just isn't up to par.
155
My favorite flavor, not a candy bar, Although it kind of tastes like a candy bar, which is why I like it.
156
I did not buy it.
157
There's a friend of mine, some of you may know, Jared Padalecki.
158
He has an affinity for winter headgear, beanies, toques, if you're from Canada.
159
I was headed to the airport and I was like, man, I wish I had one of those just
160
so I could pull it down over my eyes and go to sleep because I'm dead tired.
161
He reached into his bag and tossed me one of his beanies.
162
I think I've had this for a year.
163
And it stays in my bag and anytime I'm on the plane, I can just throw it on, throw it over my eyes, and I'm out like a light.
164
I've washed this, because otherwise I would smell like him, and that's not necessary.
165
Did I wash it?
166
I washed it.
167
I don't know.
168
Gotta have a travel bag.
169
In order to make sure I know it's my bag, and not somebody else's bag, I like to put just a little something on it, just so I can recognize it and it won't get lost.
170
So I've got a couple of pens that I have acquired from various shows.
171
You might recognize that guy.
172
That is a 1967 Chevy Impala, a little show I did back in the day.
173
Also on this side, you've got the boys.
174
Now it says Finn, which means the end.
175
This is the season five pen that was made up for the boys.
176
Phil Segrecia, who also did Supernatural, also does the boys.
177
He makes these up.
178
He makes one every season, gives them out to cast and crew.
179
So I've got a collection of these, but I usually like to put them on my bag somewhere as just a little identifier,
180
knowing that it's mine, knowing that it's not gonna get mixed up with anybody else in the airport, because I highly doubt that they were on both Supernatural and The Boys.
181
Although, I think there have been a few people that have.
182
So all of those essentials that you saw, all of that stuff goes in here, and it is over my shoulder wherever I go.
183
Those things are all with me.
184
They help me feel like I got a little piece of home with me.
185
I know that whatever I'm facing that day, I've got the things that I need to face it.
186
All right, GQ, thank you for having me, talking about my 10 essential things that I cannot live without.

  • drowning out the world: Die Welt ausblenden – z. B. "Mit Kopfhörern kann ich die Welt ausblenden."
  • strictly for: Nur für – "Das Handy ist strictly for Textnachrichten und Anrufe."
  • glued to my face: Am Gesicht kleben (übertragen: ständig benutzen) – "Ich versuche, nicht ständig am Handy zu hängen (glued to my face)."

B. "it's a" wird zu "it'sa" oder "I'll" zu "I'l".
