1
I'm a Christian.
2
with ADHD and honestly I just want to be here to help somebody who may be struggling
3
the same ways that I've struggled.
4
With ADHD, I've had these issues since childhood.
5
I can remember being told you'd lose your head if it wasn't attached to your shoulders.
6
And I was always forgetful.
7
I'd leave books at school.
8
I'd lose my keys.
9
I'd lose my lunch money.
10
I would think I left the stove on.
11
I think I forgot to lock the door.
12
All of these things.
13
I was too talkative as a kid.
14
And little did I know I'd become a teacher and a preacher for a living one day.
15
And I think about just a lot of the things
16
that were struggles for me with ADHD
17
that God used in my life to shape me and mold me and make me the person I am.
18
I was a track and field athlete through high school and college.
19
I was able to really hyper focus in on triple jump and long jump and I became a national champion,
20
a state champion, all American record holders, all these different things because I was able to just hyper focus on triple jump technique and strategy.
21
I learn and I glean so much.
22
I can read so many books when I get hyper focused on a topic.
23
I can write so many articles.
24
I can take so many biblical notes.
25
And I love that because when I'm in a sprint, when I'm in that hyper focus mode.
26
It blesses me so much.
27
God uses that to bless my soul.
28
But I also know that as many of you, if you're watching this and you have ADHD, I also know the struggle of feeling like you never can measure up.
29
And it's a gospel struggle, but it's a struggle tied to ADHD because you wake up.
30
You have this goal.
31
I want to read my Bible.
32
I want to pray.
33
And then you waste 20 minutes getting started.
34
read your brains frazzled you can't even focus on the words
35
on the page you try to pray your minds all over the place
36
and you feel like you can't read you can't get anything done
37
and then you rush into your workday you're stressed out
38
and you're feeling guilty like man I blew my time this morning I was supposed to have a quiet time
39
and I just blew it I wasted it how can God be pleased with me
40
when I struggle like this but the reality is God created you
41
and I just blew it I wasted it how can God be pleased with me
42
when I struggle like this but the reality is God created you
43
and I just blew it I wasted it how can God be pleased with me
44
when I struggle like this but the reality is God created you
45
and I just blew it I wasted it how can God be pleased with me
46
when I struggle like this but the reality is God created you
47
and I just blew it I wasted it how can God be pleased with me
48
when I struggle like this but the reality is God created you
49
and I just blew it I wasted it how can God be pleased with me
50
when I struggle like this but the reality is God created you
51

54
when I struggle like this but the reality is God created you
55
and I just blew it I just blew it I wasted it how can God be pleased with me
56
when I struggle like this but the reality is God created you You know, I don't know if you're into the jargon of ADHD, but whether you're neurotypical or not, whether your brain is.. you know, impulsive or whether you're hyperactive,
57
there are workarounds, there are ways that we can grow as Christians in these disciplines, in these things that we struggle with due to our ADHD.
58
But even in our struggles, Christ died for us.
59
He died for us while we were sinners, while we were ungodly.
60
How much more is he pleased with us?
61
How much more does he show mercy and grace and forgiveness to us as his children, as his brothers and sisters, as believers?
62
when we struggle.
63
I'm a pastor too.
64
So sometimes I don't schedule things perfectly.
65
Sometimes I procrastinate and I wait till last minute to get things done.
66
I'm running late.
67
I'm stressed out.
68
But even in those moments, God loves me and he's pleased with me because of Christ.
69
Not because of me, because of Christ.
70
And when I hyper focus and I get everything done, he's pleased with me.
71
When I record five YouTube videos in one day so that I can have my channel going for a month or more, he's pleased with me.
72
But he's also pleased with me when I'm struggling.
73
And that's one thing I want you to know.
74
God is pleased with you even in your ADHD struggle moments.
75
because it's tough sometimes it is extremely tough some of my worst days are the days
76
when I have the most time to get into Word the
77
most time to prep my sermon the most time to meditate and memorize
78
because I have an unstructured day laid out in front of
79
me I sleep a little too late I get up I
80
get my coffee I get distracted by something on social media
81
and a couple hours has flown by I need to do
82
some cleaning I need to spend time with my kids I got things to get done and before you know
83
It's winter time.
84
It's dark.
85
And I feel like my whole day is wasted because of my ADHD.
86
Here it is again.
87
Oh, and then I got on social media and I read that some pastor or theologian says ADHD doesn't exist.
88
People think we're just bellyaching, making all these excuses, which might be true.
89
That's how it feels sometimes.
90
but God still loves me.
91
He still loves you even on those days.
92
And that's the beauty of being a Christian with ADHD.
93
It's the beauty of being a Christian at all.
94
No matter what you struggle with, if you believe the gospel, you are saved He loves you and the thing is you're being sanctified.
95
This old body we have, this old man, this sinful flesh, this ADHD struggling brain that I have It's wasting away,
96
but it's also being renewed and one day we will never struggle.
97
We won't forget another thing.
98
There will be a day where we will never forget anything.
99
We will never be distracted from God.
100
We will never hyper focus on something we regret.
101
We will never go into the two or three hour scrolling warp speed thing
102
that we go into because we will have been made new.
103
Spirit through the Word is working on us.
104
Don't lose hope.
105
Don't give up.
106
Don't quit.
107
God is working on us.
108
And don't hesitate to go seek help.
109
I actually sought help.
110
I tried multiple medications.
111
None of them seemed to really work for me.
112
They caused me to have anxiety, some blood pressure issues, I ended up just being more stressed and ramped up.
113
But what I ended up doing, and this may be something to pray about and consider, I actually changed careers.
114
I went back to being a teacher, which is something that is a lower stress career for me.
115
It's something that gives me routine.
116
I know what time I got to be at work.
117
I know what time my first period is, my second.
118
It's a very regimented life.
119
But what's beautiful about being a teacher for me is I have fall break, Christmas break, summer break.
120
I get a couple of months off in the summer to have unroutine time of work to where
121
if I want to go into hyper focus mode and read a bunch of these books behind me.
122
I have the whole summer to do that.
123
I have time to prep my sermons, get ahead because I've been behind and procrastinating.
124
But for me, that works.
125
And maybe for you, it's something else.
126
But what I want to say to you is, I'm with you.
127
I understand you.
128
But more than me, we have a great high priest who sympathizes with our weaknesses.
129

130
He loves you.
131
He came to this earth.
132
in the flesh to help you to save you
133

But there's hope for us now and there's hope for us later.
141
We toil and we strive with the hope we have in our living God.
142
Keep striving.

Keep pressing on.
