1
Lark, where have you been all day?
2
Lisa, please.
3
I don't want to talk right now.
4
You said that yesterday too.
5
Something is wrong.
6
Nothing is wrong.
7
Just leave me alone.
8
No, you came home angry again.
9
I had a bad day, that's all.
10
A bad day at work?
11
Yes, work was terrible.
12
Then why did Dad call your office this afternoon?
13
What?
14
Why did he call there?
15
He wanted to speak to you.
16
He shouldn't call me at work.
17
Mark, they told him something strange.
18
Lisa, stay out of this.
19
They said you don't work there anymore.
20
What exactly did Dad tell you? tell you.
21
He asked me if I knew anything.
22
And what did you say?
23
I said you go to work every morning.
24
Good.
25
Keep saying that.
26
Wait, are you asking me to lie?
27
I'm asking you to give me some time.
28
Mark, did you lose your job?
29
Keep your voice down. So it's true.
30
I said keep your voice down.
31
How long have you been hiding this?
32
I don't want to discuss it.
33
Mom thinks you're working every day.
34
I know what Mom thinks.
35
And Dad thinks you're helping with the bills.
36
Stop questioning me.
37
Then tell me the truth.
38
I lost my job three weeks ago.
39
Three weeks?
40
Where do you go every morning?
41
That is none of your business.
42
Mark, I'm trying to help you.
43
I don't need your help.
44
Just leave me alone.
45
Fine.
46
But Dad already knows something is wrong.
47
What do you mean?
48
He's waiting for you upstairs.
49
Close the door, Mark.
50
Dad, I'm tired.
51
Can we talk tomorrow?
52
No. Sit down.
53
What happened?
54
I called your office today.
55
Lisa already told me.
56
Then you know what I'm going to ask.
Dann weißt du, was ich fragen werde.
57
Dad, please don't start.
58
Where is your job, Mark?
59
I lost it. When?
60
Three weeks ago.
61
Three weeks?
62
Yes.
63
And you said nothing to us?
64
I was going to tell you. When?
65
Next month?
66
I needed time to fix it myself.
67
You left this house every morning.
68
I was looking for another job.
69
Then why did you lie to your mother?
70
Because mom worries about everything.
71
Your mother deserves the truth.
72
I didn't want to scare her.
73
What about the money you gave us last week?
74
What about it?
75
You said it was your salary.
76
Dad, please.
77
Where did that money come from?
78
It was my money. From where?
79
Why does everything become an interrogation with you?
80
Because you are hiding something.
81
I'm trying to handle my own life.
82
This isn't only your life you live in this house.
83
I know that.
84
We depend on your help with the bills.
85
And I'm trying.
86
Trying what?
87
Trying to keep this family from falling apart.
88
Don't raise your voice at me.
89
Then stop treating me like a child.
90
Tell me where that money came from.
91
I borrowed it. From whom?
92
Leave me alone, Dad.
93
Mark, come back here.
94
I said leave me alone.
95
Fine, walk away.
96
But tomorrow I want the whole truth.
97
You may not like the truth when you hear it.
98
Lisa, what happened upstairs?
99
Dad and Mark had an argument.
100
I heard Mark shouting.
101
Mom, sit down for a minute.
102
Why?
103
You're making me nervous.
104
There's something you should know. Is Mark in trouble?
105
He lost his job.
106
What?
107
He lost it three weeks ago.
108
Three weeks ago?
109
Yes.
110
But he leaves for work every morning.
111
He was pretending.
112
Why would he do that?
113
He didn't want us to worry. That doesn't make sense.
114
I think there's more.
115
More?
116
What do you mean?
117
Dad asked about the money Mark gave us.
118
His salary?
119
It wasn't his salary.
120
Then where did he get it?
121
He said he borrowed it. From whom?
122
He wouldn't say.
123
Oh, Mark, what have you done?
124
Mom, don't panic yet.
125
How can I not panic?
126
We need to hear the whole story first.
127
Your father will make this worse.
128
Dad is angry because Mark lied.
129
Your father doesn't know how to talk when he's angry.
130
Mark doesn't either.
131
Did Mark say anything else?
132
He told Dad he might not like the truth. That sounds serious.
133
I know.
134
Should I talk to Mark?
135
Not tonight. But he's my son.
136
He keeps saying, leave me alone.
137
Sometimes people say that when they need someone most.
138
Maybe, but pushing him won't help.
139
Lisa, I'm scared.
140
I am too.
141
There's something else you don't know.
142
What?
143
A woman came here yesterday asking for Mark.
144
Emma, what are you doing here?
145
I came because you stopped answering my calls.
146
You shouldn't have come here.
147
Why?
148
Are you hiding from me too?
149
Keep your voice down.
150
I've been calling you for two days.
151
I needed some space.
152
You always need space when there's a problem.
153
Not now, Emma.
154
Then when?
155
My family knows about my job.
156
Finally.
157
Don't say it like that.
158
Mark, you lied to them for three weeks.
159
I was trying to protect them.
160
No, you were scared.
161
You don't understand my father.
162
I understand more than you think.
163
Did you come here yesterday?
164
Yes.
165
My mother saw you.
166
I asked for you, that's all.
167
You could have called me.
168
You weren't answering.
169
I said I needed time.
170
And I need my money back.
171
Emma, please.
172
You said you would return it this week.
173
I know what I said.
174
That was my savings mark.
175
I used it for my family.
176
Without telling me the truth.
177
I told you I needed help.
178
You said it was for one month's rent.
179
It was.
180
Then why did you borrow more money? Who told you that?
181
Someone called me yesterday. Who?
182
A man named Daniel?
183
Daniel called you?
184
Yes, and he sounded angry.
185
Emma, listen carefully.
186
Don't answer him again.
187
Why?
188
Who is he?
189
Just leave it alone.
190
No. Tell me what's happening.
191
Emma, please leave me alone.
192
Fine.
193
But Daniel said he's coming to your house tonight.
194
Mark, what are you looking for?
195
Nothing.
196
Please get out.
197
You look terrified.
198
Lisa, not now.
199
Who is Daniel?
200
What?
201
I heard Emma outside.
202
You were listening?
203
She was standing near our front door.
204
This is exactly why I wanted her to leave. Who is Daniel?
205
He's nobody.
206
Nobody is coming to our house tonight?
207
Lisa, stop.
208
Did you borrow money from him?
209
Yes.
210
How much?
211
I don't want to tell you.
212
How much, Mark?
213
$5,000.
214
$5,000?
215
Don't shout.
216
Why would you borrow that much?
217
Dad's hospital bills.
218
What hospital bills? From last year.
219
Dad said insurance covered them.
220
It didn't cover everything. Does Dad know?
221
No. Does Mom know?
222
No. So you paid the rest?
223
Someone had to.
224
Why didn't you tell us?
225
Because Dad was already worried.
226
And Daniel gave you the money?
227
Yes. Is he your friend?
228
He used to be.
229
Used to be?
230
He wants the money back now. Do you have it?
231
No. Then what happens tonight?
232
I'll deal with him.
233
How?
234
I don't know.
235
Mark, you can't keep doing this alone.
236
I don't have another choice.
237
Yes, you do.
238
Tell Dad the truth.
239
No. Why are you protecting him from his own bills?
240
Because those hospital bills weren't the only reason I borrowed the money.
241
What else did you do with the money?
242
Weave me alone, Lisa.
243
Mark, what else did you do with the money?
244
I used part of it to save this house.
245
Where did you get this letter?
246
It was in Mark's room.
247
Lisa, you shouldn't search his things.
248
I wasn't searching.
249
He dropped it.
250
What does it say?
251
It's from the bank.
252
Give it to me.
253
Mom, before you read it.
254
Lisa, what happened?
255
Mark said he borrowed money to save the house.
256
Save the house from what?
257
I was hoping you knew.
258
I don't understand.
259
Are the house payments behind?
260
Your father handles them.
261
Lisa, are you sure?
262
He always has.
263
Lisa, please think.
264
A few months ago, your father became very quiet. About money?
265
Maybe.
266
Did he ever mention the bank?
267
Once.
268
What did he say?
269
He said there was a small problem.
270
How small?
271
He told me not to worry.
272
Everyone in this family says that.
273
What do you mean?
274
Mark says the same thing.
275
Open the letter. Are you sure?
276
Open it.
277
Mom?
278
What does it say?
279
There are missed payments.
280
How many?
281
Several months. That can't be right.
282
There's also a warning.
283
What kind of warning?
284
The bank may take legal action.
285
No, this is our home.
286
Mark must have found out.
287
And he borrowed money to help?
288
It looks that way.
289
Your father never told me.
290
We need to ask him.
291
No. Mom, why not?
292
Because I think I know why your father stopped making the payments.
293
Where did you get that?
294
That's your first question?
295
Lisa, answer me.
296
Mark had it.
297
He had no right to take that. Is it true?
298
This is between your mother and me.
299
Mom didn't even know.
300
She didn't need to know.
301
We could lose our home.
302
Keep your voice down.
303
Why did you stop making payments?
304
I had problems.
305
What problems?
306
Problems I was handling.
307
You weren't handling them.
308
Mark was.
309
What are you talking about?
310
He borrowed money. From whom?
311
A man named Daniel.
312
How much?
313
Five thousand dollars.
314
Five thousand?
315
Part of it went toward your hospital bills.
316
I never asked him to do that.
317
He was trying to help you.
318
By borrowing money from strangers?
319
Why were the house payments missed?
320
Lisa, leave it alone.
321
No, I'm tired of hearing that.
322
This is not your responsibility.
323
It became my responsibility when Mark lost his job.
324
His job has nothing to do with this.
325
Maybe it does.
326
What do you mean?
327
Why did he lose it?
328
I don't know. Did you ask him?
329
He won't talk to me.
330
Maybe because everyone is hiding things.
331
Enough.
332
Tell me where the house money went.
333
I said enough.
334
Dad, where did it go?
335
Your grandmother needed money.
336
Grandma?
337
She was going to lose her apartment.
338
So you gave her our house money?
339
She had nowhere else to go. And you told nobody.
340
I thought I could replace it. But you couldn't.
341
No. Dad, Daniel is coming tonight.
342
Then Mark won't face him alone.
343
Finally, you stopped answering my calls.
344
I told you I needed more time.
345
You've had enough time.
346
I lost my job.
347
That is not my problem.
348
I'm looking for another one.
349
And I'm looking for my money.
350
I'll pay you back. When?
351
As soon as I start working again.
352
You said that last week.
353
Things changed.
354
Things always change with you.
355
bring my family into this.
356
I didn't bring them into anything.
357
You called Emma.
358
Because you ignored me.
359
Don't call her again.
360
Then answer your phone.
361
I will.
362
I want something tonight.
363
I don't have anything.
364
You have a car.
365
The car belongs to my dad.
366
Then sell something else.
367
I'm not selling my family's things.
368
You borrowed my money.
369
I know.
370
Five thousand dollars.
371
I know how much I owe you.
372
Then act like it.
373
Stop talking to me like I'm a criminal.
374
I trusted you as a friend.
375
I borrowed the money because my family was in trouble.
376
And you promised to return it.
377
I will return every dollar.
378
I don't believe you anymore.
379
Then what do you want me to do?
380
Tell your family.
381
No. Why are you still hiding it?
382
Because they already have enough problems.
383
Mark, you cannot save everyone.
384
Just leave me alone, Daniel.
385
I will, for seven days.
386
Seven days?
387
After that, I'm done waiting.
388
Daniel.
389
Seven days, Mark.
390
Find my money. Was that Daniel?
391
Mom, please go to bed.
392
I asked you a question.
393
Yes, that was Daniel.
394
Lisa! told me everything. Of course she did.
395
Don't be angry with your sister.
396
I asked everyone to leave me alone.
397
And look where that got you.
398
Mom, please.
399
Why didn't you tell me?
400
Because you had enough to worry about.
401
I'm your mother.
402
Exactly.
403
What does that mean?
404
You worry about all of us.
405
That's what mothers do.
406
I didn't want to add another problem.
407
So you carried it alone?
408
I thought I could fix everything.
409
Your father's bills?
410
Yes.
411
The house payments?
412
Yes.
413
And you lost your job?
414
Yes.
415
Why did you lose it?
416
I kept leaving work early.
417
Why?
418
I was taking Dad to the hospital.
419
Mark.
420
He didn't want you to know how many appointments he had.
421
Your father hid that too?
422
He was scared.
423
This family is full of secrets.
424
I was just trying to help.
425
Helping doesn't mean destroying yourself.
426
I'm fine.
427
No, you're exhausted.
428
I can handle it.
429
Stop saying that.
430
What do you want from me?
431
I want my son back.
432
Mom, I'm right here.
433
No, you're angry all the time.
434
You push everyone away.
435
Because everyone keeps questioning me. Because we love you.
436
I don't know what to do anymore.
437
Then don't do it alone.
438
Daniel gave me seven days.
439
Then tomorrow we solve this as a family. That will never agree.
440
Your father doesn't have a choice anymore.
441
What are you doing?
442
Packing.
443
Packing for what?
444
I'm leaving.
445
Leaving the house?
446
Yes. Where are you going?
447
I don't know yet.
448
Mark, stop.
449
Don't try to change my mind.
450
You think running away will fix this?
451
I'm not running away.
452
Then what are you doing?
453
Removing the problem.
454
You are not the problem.
455
Daniel is here because of me.
456
You borrowed that money for this family.
457
It was still my decision.
458
Dad made mistakes too.
459
Don't blame him.
460
Why do you always protect everyone? Because somebody has to.
461
No, somebody doesn't have to.
462
Weesa, move away from the door.
463
No. I'm serious. So am I.
464
Leave me alone.
465
No, Mark.
466
I said leave me alone.
467
You've been saying that for weeks. Because nobody listens.
468
I'm listening now.
469
Then let me leave.
470
Tell me one thing first.
471
What?
472
Where will you sleep tonight?
473
I'll figure it out.
474
What will you eat?
475
I'll manage.
476
How will leaving help you find $5,000?
477
I don't know.
478
Exactly.
479
You don't have a plan.
480
I just don't want all of you paying for my mistake.
481
It isn't only your mistake anymore.
482
What do you mean?
483
Dad told me the truth about Grandma.
484
He did?
485
Yes, and Mom knows everything too.
486
Great.
487
Now everyone knows how badly I failed.
488
No, now everyone knows how much you were carrying.
489
Lisa, I'm tired.
490
Then stop carrying it alone.
491
What are we supposed to do?
492
We have seven days.
493
Maybe seven days won't change anything.
494
Maybe not, but this time you won't face those seven days alone.
495
And if we can't find the money?
496
Then we face that problem together, too.
497
You really won't let me leave, will you?
498
No, this is your home, Mark.
499
I'm sorry I kept saying leave me alone.
500
Then stop saying it.
501
What should I say instead?
502
Say I need help.
503
Lisa, I need help.
504
Good, now put the bag down.
505
Hello?
506
Who is this?
507
Sarah, is that really you?
508
Yes, this is Sarah.
509
Who is calling?
510
It's Emily, your best friend from school.
511
Emily!
512
Oh my God, is it really you?
513
Yes, it's me!
514
I finally found you!
515
I can't believe this.
516
After 10 years!
517
I have been looking for you for so long.
518
I have been looking for you, too.
519
I missed you so much.
520
I missed you, too.
521
Every single day.
522
Where are you?
523
Are you still in the city?
524
Yes, I am still here.
525
I never left.
526
I moved away after college.
527
I am so sorry.
528
Don't be sorry.
529
Life happens.
530
I tried to find you, but I couldn't.
531
I know.
532
I tried too.
533
Social media wasn't helpful.
534
But now we found each other.
535
I am so happy.
536
Me too.
537
I'm crying.
538
I can't stop crying.
539
I am crying too.
540
This is so emotional. Can we meet?
541
Please say yes.
542
Yes, of course.
543
When can we meet?
544
Tomorrow, at our old coffee shop.
545
The one near our school?
546
I remember it.
547
Yes, same place.
548
10 a.m.?
549
I will be there at 9 a.m.
550
I can't wait.
551
I will be there, too.
552
I am so excited.
553
I love you, Emily.
554
I have always loved you.
555
I love you, too, Sarah.
556
Always.
557
See you tomorrow, my best friend.
558
See you tomorrow.
559
This is the best day ever.
560
