1
Good morning, SPA family.
2
Sorry about that technical difficulty.
3
How are we doing?
4
Good.
5
Glory be to God indeed.
6
We are in a season.
7
We're always in a season.
8
But what season are we in right now?
9
We talked about it briefly.
10
I know last week we didn't have an explanation.
11
SPA holiday.
12
How are we recovering from that?
13
Was that a good holiday?
14
How are you guys feeling?
15
It's been a week.
16
It's been good?
17
Glory to God.
18
I mean, I'm not going to lie.
19
Sunday night I got home, I slept until Thursday.
20
I didn't come back until Thursday.
21
But yeah, so we are currently in the season of rain.
22
We talked about it for the first week, two weeks ago, and now this is a very much an important season where we have said bye to Holy 50.
23
We have said bye to talking about the ascension and the resurrection and the Holy Spirit descending upon the disciples.
24
And now we're talking about rain.
25
You may be thinking, is the Orthodox Church like an environmentalist church?
26
Why are we talking about rain?
27
Why are we talking about the ground?
28
No, we're talking about it Because we see, and Sanyadi speaks about it in these hymns for this entire season,
29
is that the Lord chose his love for mankind through how he sustains us through rain, right?
30
There's a consistent thing seen from the old times of the Israelites to this day.
31
It's the truth.
32
That rain down from the heavens.
33
It's from the sky.
34
And so people always saw rain as a divine providence from God, God providing for his children, for mankind.
35
And rain is very important because, though we live in 2026 now, where we just go to Whole Foods or Lidl or Aldi to get our, you know, food.
36
There used to be a time where if you wanted to go to get food, you have to go to your backyard and pray to God that there was enough rain that had, you know, nurtured your crops so you could be able to eat, right?
37
So rain was very important because it showed that it also provided for food and for sustenance.
38
So David says in today's psalm, he causes the grass to grow for the cattle and herb for the service of man, that it may bring forth fruit out of the land.
39
And so this Psalm 104 is a psalm really pondering on Genesis,
40
where the psalmist speaks about and recounts the account of creation, how God created everything, and He created it for the providence and the love that he has for mankind.
41
So, a very important thing is that with a without man, God provides grass to sustain his creation, right?
42
And this is what the commentary says, and they really emphasize that.
43
We ought not to overlook every small little thing God does for us.
44
Even like how we are able to go to our car in safety, or go to work in safety, and all these things.
45
Like, God is, there's a reason we call the Lord in our divine theology, we call him the Pantocrator, which is like the almighty, ultimate governor of the universe, right?
46
There's not a single atom, a single molecule, a single raindrop, a single anything, a single hair on your head that is God, that does not happen without his permission and without him knowing, right?
47
So, Him providing for us through rain and through all of these things,
48
it points to the fact that mankind relies on the Lord for life.
49
He is our very life.
50
And really, not just that we feed on food or we need the crops that are sustained by rain,
51
but that it points to a deeper thing.
52
That we feed on the divine lotus that is the Word of God.
53
Similarly to how the crops and the cattle, they wait for the season of rain.
54
Because before rain, the ground is dry.
55
There's no crops.
56
There's no grass.
57
There's nothing for them to feed on.
58
And then when rain comes, we see, again, the grass grows for the cattle.
59
Once the rain comes, the cattle can go into the mountains and graze.
60
We talked about it in two weeks.
61
We talked about how we are mountains.
62
We're supposed to be grazed upon, right, by the faithful.
63
They feed on the Word of God through in our souls, right?
64
And similarly so, the cattle come from the rain to go and graze and eat.
65
And so it points to how we also feed on the divine logos.
66
And that, yes, it's very important to give thanks to God for the fact
67
that He gives us very intimate and very literal things.
68
Like food, water, a house to live in, four walls, clothing, all of these things.
69
But it's all supposed to point to the greatest thing, and that Christ is the one who we feed on the most.
70
So the question we're asking is, do you feel as though you are fed by the Lord?
71
Do you feel as though you are fed by the Lord?
72
Every single morning, I mean, fasting season is over, so I don't know if people are going back to eating breakfast.
73
I kind of just forgot to do it, but they're eating lunch or dinner, whatever you're doing.
74
Every single day, because you're hungry, you go to a certain plate.
75
You go somewhere, you order something, you do something and you eat because your body craves, it needs, right?
76
And without it, some things may happen.
77
You may get hangry, you may get cranky, you may get angry, like I need food, I need food.
78
You're thirsty, you need water.
79
You crave for certain things and it's a consistent everyday thing, right?
80
Similarly so, how do you crave for the Lord?
81
How do you crave for God?
82
Cattle and mankind itself looked for the rain because they know from the rain they would get nourishment for food, right?
83
And this is going to be like, you're going to hear me say this 80 million times for the next, because this season goes all the way until New Year, not January, not January.
84
New Year meaning September, our New Year.
85
So this is going to be a consistent theme where we see cattle loves the rain.
86
Mankind loves rain because it comes and brings forth nourishment.
87
How are we nourished by the Lord?
88
Do we look into the iconography of our church?
89
Do we see the icon of Christ?
90
And is our soul satisfied?
91
We wake up in the morning to go to our prayer corner?
92
Do we even go to our prayer corner?
93
What is, because it's not even just about are you going to Him, but also why are you going to Him?
94
The same exact way, it's not about are you eating?
95
You could be eating, but your health could still be horrendous.
96
You could just be eating junk food and nasty stuff.
97
Okay, you're eating, but what are you eating?
98
What foods are you eating?
99
Are you eating like a balanced diet?
100
That matters also.
101
So then, are you coming to the Lord?
102
And why are you coming to Him?
103
To what extent are you fulfilled by Him?
104
Are you like the Israelites who in the time of Moses, came to him, yes, but they came to him only for monetary gain.
105
They came to him only to gain something.
106
And then they left.
107
And then they forgot God.
108
And then they came back because the Egyptians are coming.
109
And they came back because they needed manna and they came back
110
because they wanted quails and they came back because because
111
because were they satisfied by the Lord even the Psalms say David said they were satisfied
112
but not in the way in
113
which God wanted to satisfy them they're satisfied in the way they wanted to be satisfied
114
so are you fed by him in the way he wants to feed you?
115
That's the question we have to ask ourselves.
116
Because we move from glory to glory to glory
117
and the beautiful thing about our bridegroom and that he is Christ is
118
that he has a certain vision and how he wants to really fulfill his creation
119
and fulfill every single one of our souls
120
and heal every single one of our traumas and wipe away every single one of our tears, right?
121
But he has a way of doing it.
122
A lot of the time, we have like a small 1% image of what that is.
123
God solved this as a financial problem, or God do this.
124
But he wants to continue to show his love upon us forevermore.
125
It doesn't stop there.
126
So similar to how cattle and mankind, when they saw the rain, they were happy to see the rain.
127
And they were fulfilled by the rain, and that they were able to continue living from the nourishment they got, right?
128
Similarly so, we have to look into ourselves.
129
The rain is here, what am I using the rain for?
130
God's hand is upon me.
131
He's stretching His hand out to provide for me.
132
He's stretching out with multiple solutions.
133
Am I only taking two that I like and leaving the other infinity behind?
134
How am I really taking advantage of this undeserving, graceful hand that is Christ?
135
So I pray that just like cattle.
136
Yes, believe it or not.
137
We can learn from the cattle.
138
We can learn from cows and sheep.
139
just like the cattle and the sheep and those who are grazing on the mountains and also look to rain for nourishment.
140
I pray that we all look toward Christ for nourishment and for the rain.
141
Glory to God.
142
Let's call up choir.
