1
Hi there and welcome to Ottawa English.
2
I'm Angela.
3
Today we're working on a self-rep response to Speaking Task 1,
4
which is where you're asked to give someone some advice.
5
The way we're going to do it is I'm going to get you to listen to what I say
6
and read the words as I say them.
7
You don't need to say anything.
8
Once we've done that, we're going go through it line by line
9
and I want you to repeat exactly what you hear and you can keep doing this,
10
go over and over it as many times as you want to until you think you sound just like me.
11
And what you want to do is try to copy my word stress,
12
my pauses, my pronunciation and my intonation.
13
Once we've done that, I'm going to get you to go through it again and this time you're going to shadow me.
14
So you're going to say the same thing at the same time.
15
It's a lot like singing along to your favourite song
16
and you'll adjust your sounds and your rhythms to match what I'm saying and the way that I'm saying it.
17
So this should all help you with your pronunciation,
18
your intonation, your word stress,
19
all of those other things after grammar and vocabulary that you get points on in your cell pip test.
20
So you can stop the video for a moment if you want to just familiarize yourself with the content.
21
Hi Jo, I hear you're having some trouble with toothache.
22
So I thought I'd call and give you a couple of suggestions for soothing the pain.
23
First up, you should make yourself an appointment with a dentist.
24
But in the meantime, you could try some of the stuff that they put on baby's gums when they're teething.
25
It's an anaesthetic liquid that comes in a small tube.
26
You should be able to find it at the pharmacy.
27
You just put a drop on your finger and massage it into the sore area.
28
Another option is to rinse your mouth with salty water.
29
Just dissolve half a teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water
30
and swish the mixture around your mouth for about 30 seconds.
31
Any salt will do.
32
You don't need to go looking for anything fancy.
33
Make sure you spit it out when you're done because you don't want to swallow all that salt.
34
I also recommend that you try a used peppermint teabag because it works wonders.
35
Just put a used teabag into the freezer until it's good and cold and then put it on the painful tooth.
36
I hope one of these ideas gives you some relief.
37
How did that go for you?
38
Now this time I want you to imitate me.
39
So listen as I say this the phrase and then copy it.
40
Remember you're trying to sound just like me.
41

60
I hope one of these ideas gives you some relief.
61
So how did you do?
62
Was a little, maybe it was a little bit too fast in some of those areas,
63
but you can always stop and repeat.
64
OK, I'm just giving you the pattern of each phrase.
65
Now, in this next step,
66
I want you to shadow me.
67
So I want you to pretend like you're singing your favourite song along with your favourite singer.
68
Hi Jo, I hear you're having some trouble with toothache.
69
So I thought I'd call and give you a couple of suggestions for soothing the pain.
70

84
If you're having trouble with any of those things or with your grammar,
85
whatever you're having problems with as you're preparing for your Salpip test,
86
remember that you can always work with a tutor.
87
You can call or text me at 613, 614, 6460.
88
When you work with a tutor we turn your passive learning into active learning.
89
We target the things that matter so
90
that you don't waste a lot of time on things that aren't going to score you points in your test.
91
And we also save you an awful long time trolling through YouTube and maybe picking up tips that are misleading.
92
So if you're about to take your test best of luck,
93
If you'd like, if you like my video,
94
please click on the like and keep repeating until you can shadow me perfectly.
95
You take care now.
96
Bye bye.

Gemeinsame Aussprachefallen
