1
you All right,
2
hey, Riley here from becominganelectrician .com.
3
In this video, I want to talk to you about a really cool way to bond insulated bond.
4
All right.
5
So many times when we have insulated bond, sometimes we have to strip in between and we can wrap that around our bond screw.
6
And then it still allows us to have a pigtail without making a pigtail.
7
All right, I want to talk about that in that in this video.
8
Okay, so before we get into this video, definitely check out my free book I have for you guys just go to becoming an electrician .com forward slash subscribe.
9
It's going to help you as you are an apprentice electrician out there.
10
Okay.
11
All right, so I first wanna start with this wire.
12
So you can see here that this actually is not
13
insulated right this is a bare bond wire and
14
if we're talking about a wire you can see
15
that this is a 14 -2 all right
16
so the reason why it's 14 -2 is
17
because there's actually two insulated conductors
18
and this is the bond as you can see right here i have a full set of wires right
19
so this is a red black All right, so red.
20
black, blue, and then a neutral wire, a white.
21
And we have our bond wire and it is insulated.
22
Okay, so let's say that our wire is in our box.
23
And the problem is, is if we strip it up here,
24
like this, what's going to happen is we have to splice on another wire and then bond it.
25
And it's kind of an annoying workflow thing, okay?
26
So what we can be doing is check out this cool little trick.
27
So if you are ever pulling fire alarm cable, this is what you often do.
28
We're going to go about here.
29
and I'll make a little, you know, I'll strip it there, and then we will strip it about here, okay?
30
You know, you wanna make it pretty big, because it's just gonna allow you to wrap it around the bond screw, and then this, you can just splice onto, so it saves you a lot of time,
31
and I just use my knife after.
32
That's why I always like the X -Acto knife here.
33
So I made my two strips, and you're just gonna put this in, and you're just gonna gently just cut the wire.
34
Thank you.
35
All right, and then so once it's from here, what I would usually do is I take my strippers and I can just take this off. And you can see...
36
Thank you.
37
But so now if we're gonna bond our wire, again, we always put it clockwise, okay?
38
I will just kinda get it ready.
39
I usually like to kind of bend it a little bit so it's kind of like that.
40
Alright, makes it a little bit easier.
41
I could have made it more even.
42
But yeah, I usually just kind of bend it something like this.
43
And again, that's why you want it a little bit longer.
44
So it does get a good wrap around the screw.
45
And we'll just do that.
46
Alright, so just to finish this off.
47
So many times I just hold this down, get my strippers just just gently doesn't have to be too intense.
48
But now you have a nice bond on there.
49
And then you just tighten it down.
50
And that's it.
51
Alright, it is made a nice bond for you.
52
And then you have a pigtail.
53
all right this way you don't have to splice on like you know extra wires
54
if you had another wire in here that's continuing on now
55
you only have two wires to splice rather than having three wires
56
and it goes onto the bond
57
and then i just wanted to quickly make this video to show you this cool little trick
58
because i wanted to put it into an article on the website there
59
so definitely go check out the website there's tons and tons of valuable articles in addition to these videos

64
This is a cool little trick when it is insulated bond wire.
65
You just make two incisions with your strippers.
66
Make sure that it is quite long, you know what I mean?
67
Like so maybe from here to here.
68
And it's just going to make it easier.
69
This is actually a pretty clean install.
70
If it's, you know, you don't want it to be super tight
71
because what happens is the insulation goes underneath the bond screw and it's really annoying.
72
And then it's even harder to remove it afterwards.
73
go a little bit longer than what you think.
74
You're going to get a nice good install just like this.
75
And then you have a pigtail which you can splice onto making your life a lot easier.
76
Okay, thanks for checking out the video.
