1
I have a crippling addiction.
2
I have a crippling addiction to buying Casio's
3
which is bad news for my wallet but it's good news for you
4
because we can compare these all before you make a purchasing decision.
5
So in this video we're going to take a look at five of Casio's most popular digital watches,
6
compare and contrast their specs and talk about what makes each one of them unique
7
and what better watch to start off with than the fan favorite most sold watch in human history, the Casio F91W.
8
And here I have the most popular matte black version, but I also have the white version,
9
which I personally think is a pretty underrated look for this watch.
10
By the way, if you're looking for the Amazon links to any of these specific watches, I'll leave them all in the description box down below.
11
The F91W is one of Casio's smallest, most lightweight, weight, and most affordable watches.
12
Coming in at just over 20 grams, this is one of those watches that just completely disappears on your wrist.
13
It almost feels more like a bracelet than it does a wristwatch.
14
It's incredibly comfortable to wear, and part of the reason for that is the full resin construction.
15
It's got all the classic Casio features.
16
It shows the time, the day of the week, the date.
17
It's got a stopwatch, an alarm clock, and honestly, those key features are going be present in all five watches
18
that we're going to look at today
19
and most of casio's collection with a few exceptions the core
20
functionality of a lot of casio's digital watches doesn't vary a whole lot
21
but what does vary quite a bit is the look the aesthetic
22
and the feel of the watch and the look
23
and feel of the f91w is just pure timeless and classic it's
24
so simple but it's instantly recognizable when you see it on someone's wrist,
25
and it just gets the job done really well without trying to do too much.
26
The F91W has a weak green backlight that is pretty hard to see in daylight, but does the job well enough in complete darkness.
27
Alright, next up we're moving to my personal favorite in this collection, which is the Casio A158.
28
The way I would describe the A158 is retro minimalist.
29
It's got that really old school throwback feeling to it, very similar to the F91W,
30
but similarly, it's not overly in your face or flashy or trying to do too much.
31
It's got the exact same functionality and core features as the F91W, with that same weak green backlight that really only works in very dark conditions.
32
The biggest difference here is obviously the metallic look and feel of the watch.
33
Now, the case is still made of resin, but it has a chrome -plated finish
34
that makes it look like it's stainless steel but the rest of the bracelet is actual stainless steel.
35
Now, this bracelet, like a lot of Casio's metal bands, is a bit of a hair puller,
36
but it's honestly something that you just get used to and stop noticing after a while.
37
Now, the A158 is a little bit heavier.
38
It's about twice the weight of the F91W, but it is still only around 40 grams, so it's not heavy by any means.
39
Now, the A158, like most of the watches in this lineup, is really only rated to be splash resistant.
40
So technically you're not supposed to swim with these watches
41
or really get them wet beyond a light splash or some rain
42
but the reality is
43
that most of the time these watches are way more durable than they give them credit for
44
but technically they're only rated to be splash resistant.
45
Okay next up we have what can sort of be thought of as the A158's older brother which is the A168.
46
As you can see the A168 has a very similar look and feel to our A158 with a few key distinctions.
47
really the main difference is that the a168 is just a little bit bigger
48
and bolder it's got brighter colors a thicker larger case
49
and the one big feature distinction is a much brighter backlight the a168 has what casio calls its illuminator
50
which is basically their very bright blue backlight
51
that lights up the entire screen but other than
52
that these watches are pretty much identical
53
and it really just comes down to the vibe and aesthetic
54
that you're going for in my opinion the a168 is a little bit more playful it's more bold
55
and it has more of a fun kind of cartoony aesthetic
56
to it whereas the a158 is just a little bit more muted
57
and understated it's kind of got a more serious
58
and subdued look to it but still has that retro old school look
59
which again personally I think is really cool
60
but both of these watches are fantastic
61
and now we're gonna head to the sponsor of today's video
62
which is nobody nobody wants to sponsor me
63
so I figured i just show you something cool that i own
64
and hopefully you'll click my amazon link and give me some commission
65
so this is the fantic e1 max it's a mini electric screwdriver
66
and it's one of the best things i own it's usbc rechargeable
67
it's got 50 of these little magnetic bits it's even got a little flashlight on the end
68
that lights up when you start screwing something.
69
And it's all housed in this very satisfying magnetic case.
70
Again, Fantic is not sponsoring me or paying me to say this.
71
I just think this is one of the coolest things I have.
72
It's great for watch repairs and little projects around the house.
73
And it may make a great gift for yourself or for someone you know.
74
So I'll leave the Amazon link in the description down below.
75
Anyways, next up on our Casio list is a watch that is much different from the last three.
76
This is the Casio AE -1200, otherwise known as the Casio World Time.
77
And the reason it's called the World Time is pretty obvious.
78
It's got a big digital map of the world and can track any time zone.
79
With a simple click of the search button on the side,
80
you can scroll through the entire world and find the time zone that you're looking for.
81
You can also set up to five alarms on this thing, which I'll be honest, I have no idea how to do that,
82
but apparently you can.
83
It's got a countdown timer it's rated for 100 meters of water resistance, so much more of a swim watch as compared to our other models.
84
It's got a larger battery, supposedly rated for 10 plus years,
85
and it's just a lot larger and more rugged than most of Casio's other digital watches.
86
But despite its larger case size and overall presence, it's actually not a very heavy watch.
87
It's technically lighter than both are A158 and A168.
88
And a large part of that is due to the fully resin strap.
89
So this watch is in a completely different category than the rest of these.
90
It's much more of a tool, gadget, travel watch than anything else.
91
And it definitely has a much more distinctive and unique look to it, which can be good or bad.
92
I'll be honest, this is not a watch that I ever personally wear.
93
To me, from an aesthetics point, it's just a little bit too gadgety or gimmicky.
94
Like I still think it looks really cool
95
and i very much respect this watch
96
and i like looking at it on my shelf i just don't ever find myself picking it up
97
and putting it on but i do respect it
98
when i see it out and you can't beat the functionality of it okay
99
and last but not least we have what is probably the most underrated digital casio
100
which is the casio a700 i would describe this watch as having more of a dressy retro look to it
101
and the reason for that is it still has that sort of timeless old school look, but it's housed in this incredibly sleek and slim case.
102
Out of all the watches we've looked at here, the A700 is by far the thinnest, coming in at just six millimeters in case thickness.
103
But despite how thin and unassuming this watch is, it's actually one of the heavier ones on this list,
104
which just gives it a slightly more premium and substantial feeling, which I kind of prefer over the super lightweight models.
105
It's got this really cool brushed stainless steel bracelet that just sort of elegantly and seamlessly fits in with the thin case.
106
The other underrated thing about the A700 is its backlight.
107
Its backlight is actually most similar to the World Time with a bright orange backlight that lights up the entire screen.
108
I honestly think the A700 has the best backlight of all of these options.
109
So this watch is just super thin, it's very elegant, it's understated, and honestly, I think it's one of the most underrated Casios out there.
110
But let me know what you think down in the comments.
111
What is your favorite out of these five watches,
112
or are there any other digital Casios that I missed on this list that should have been included?
113
I'd love to hear your thoughts down in the comments below.
114
And if you wanna learn more about another Casio watch that I think is criminally underrated, watch this video here.
115
Thank you for watching, happy watch collecting, and I'll see you in the next video.
