I star in the new horror film,

Obsession, and this is Women in Focus.

Ready, and action.

I prepared for the role of Nikki by just allowing myself to be unfiltered

and raw with the way that there's ugly emotions that we never want to show people.

And I think every ugly emotion that a person could have,

I wanted to be in this film because we all have them.

And I think preparing for this role was just allowing myself to be utterly ugly and being comfortable with that.

I think genuinely this might be one of those films where we didn't break a lot.

There was a very serious nature on set just because of what we were filming,

but there was a handful of times where it just seemed really silly

and one of those times was I'm outside of Bear's car,

it's right after he makes the wish and Nicky is outside

and I go to his driver's side and I go to take off his seatbelt.

And I'm like, I know what you're doing.

And then he goes, what?

And I stand up and I go,

no. And I go to run to the opposite side of the car,

but I'm directionally impaired and I didn't know which way I was gonna go,

and so I went the wrong way,

went the wrong way again,

went the wrong way, and then went back the right way.

And when Michael's laughing, he's actually laughing.

It was three o'clock in the morning,

and that laughter lasted all night.

We couldn't get rid of it, so that happened.

I wanna share my favorite women-led,

focused features films that I'm obsessed with.

Whoa, y'all with this alliteration is crazy.

Let's throw another F word in there.

That's, that meant, like, that's not what I meant.

I want to talk about Promising Young Woman because it's one of my favorite focus films.

Thank you.

Carey Mulligan in that film is absolutely breathtakingly raw and real and just so funny.

I mean, what a way to talk about what it's like to be a woman and what a take about it.

I also love the fact that they casted a lot of men that publicly as actors are very safe

and very kind men.

That way there's this nature that is just so trusting.

So as an audience member,

you kind of immediately trust them,

but you understand why Carrie doesn't.

And it has one of the best twists that I've seen.

I did not expect that at all.

Her performance is completely out of this world.

You're insane.

You know what?

I honestly don't think I am.

I think that this film teaches a lot about reclaiming your power,

especially after trauma, because she's not afraid to do what has been done to her.

She's doing absolutely nothing that other people haven't already done to her.

And I think oftentimes as a woman,

we feel the need to almost go the extra mile to make sure

that we are nice and we are kind

and we don't want to upset and she does nothing but not care about the way that she's making other people feel.

To kind of twist it.

I think that's really important in reclaiming your power

because she's not letting what they've done to her affect the way that she's going to treat them.

Well, she does.

She hurts them badly.

I said, what are you doing?

Sometimes you gotta.

And I think that relates to Nikki in a way because Nikki's power gets taken and she has no control over that.

And I think that's something that Nikki needs in this movie is a little bit of

that Carey Mulligan in Promising Young Woman because she is in the middle of her trauma.

Why have you killed these beautiful flowers?

What?

Nothing.

I loved Lily Rostep's performance in Nosferatu.

There's a beautiful aspect of the fact that love isn't beautiful.

And I think that's exactly what happens in Obsession,

is love isn't beautiful, and it can be really ugly,

and sometimes it can overtake yourself.

And there's a beautiful scene with Lily in the bedroom where she's just completely overtaken.

And I think love can feel like that sometimes.

It can feel like it overtakes you.

It takes your power.

It takes your brain it kind of possesses you in a way.

Lily's performance in that really inspired me because she just took it up a notch and Nikki takes it up a notch.

And sometimes you just gotta take it up a notch.

I think another film is Pride and Prejudice.

Your hands are cold.

And that movie is more you sit down,

you feel good, But also at the same time, love sucks.

You're not always going to get the person.

You don't know how that person feels.

We're not in each other's heads,

but he chooses her and she chooses him.

And sometimes that happens and sometimes it doesn't.

I think, you know, be careful what you wish for because...

Sometimes that person just doesn't want you.

I think it's an absolute honor to be considered a powerful lead in a Focus Features film,

especially with all of the women that are before me.
