The sale ends today.
2
There's no way we can get there in time unless we could teleport.
3
Then let's teleport.
4
Well, before we try that, let's ask a magical question.
5
What if you could teleport?
6
Zoom in!
7
Imagine instantly moving from one place to another without worrying about traffic,
8
visa queues or even spending millions of dollars on a single trip to space.
9
It sounds like pure science fiction, but according to quantum physics, teleportation is possible.
10
Just not in the way movies usually show it.
11
If humans could teleport the way science often portrays it, vanishing from one spot and reappearing in another,
12
we would encounter serious problems, starting with Earth itself.
13
That's because our planet is constantly rotating on its axis,
14
orbiting the Sun and moving through the galaxy at tremendous speeds.
15
Because of this motion, your body is always travelling at thousands of kilometers per hour.
16
Even though you feel perfectly still, you don't notice this movement.
17
Because everything around you, the ground, the air and the atmosphere, shares the same motion.
18
However, teleportation complicates this balance.
19
If teleportation failed to preserve your motion as you reappear,
20
you could arrive with the wrong velocity relative to Earth's surface.
21
In the worst case, you might effectively slam into the ground or atmosphere at extreme speed.
22
The result would be catastrophic.
23
So, to work safely, teleportation would require extraordinary navigational accuracy
24
and immense computational power to ensure you arrive in exactly the right place and with the right motion.
25
For now, this kind of teleportation is far beyond our technological abilities.
26
However, there is one form allowed by the laws of physics, quantum teleportation.
27
But, how does it work?
28
To understand quantum teleportation, imagine a simple object, an apple, at the smallest level.
29
The apple is made of atoms and each atom is described by information such as position,
30
energy, motion and other quantum properties.
31
Together, this information forms what physics calls a quantum state.
32
In theory, we could perfectly transfer the complete quantum state of every atom in the apple to another location.
33
Atoms there could be arranged to match that state exactly.
34
The result would be an apple that is physically identical to the original,
35
but only if the original quantum state were destroyed in the process.
36
This destruction is necessary because of a fundamental rule in quantum physics called the Uncertainty Principle
37
which states that measuring certain properties of a particle inevitably disturbs them.
38
A quantum state cannot simply be scanned and copied.
39
Instead, scientists use a phenomenon called quantum entanglement.
40
Although scientists do not fully understand why quantum entanglement works the way it does,
41
experiments clearly show that when two particles such as electrons are entangled,
42
certain properties become linked even when the particles are separated by large distances.
43
Measuring the spin of one particle determines the correlated result of
44
the other we can use this connection to transfer quantum information from one particle to another.
45
In this process, the original quantum state is destroyed and the same state appears elsewhere without creating a duplicate copy.
46
Why researchers have successfully teleported individual particles and small quantum systems.
47
Teleporting complex objects like apples or humans would require measuring and reconstructing an enormous number of atoms with extraordinary precision,
48
far beyond today's technology.
49
Still, science has surprised us before, so the future may bring possibilities we can't yet imagine.
50
Did you know that the first quantum teleportation experiment happened in 1997,
51
when physicists successfully teleported the quantum state of a photon?
52
Also, in 2017, Chinese scientists teleported quantum information from Earth to a satellite in space over 1400 kilometers away.
53
It's sketching time!
54
Today's sketch of the day goes to Esther Jaladoni.
55
Hope you learned something amazing today.
56
Until next time, it's me, Dr. Binocs, Zooming out!
57
Kitty, how did you get there so fast?
58
Kitty can teleport!
59
Teleport? But how?
60
Technology!
61
Oh, never mind.
62
Thank you.

  • Condizionali e ipotetiche: "What if you could teleport?"
  • Frasi relative: "if teleportation failed to preserve your motion..." Utilizzare frasi relative permette di aggiungere informazioni senza ripetere soggetti.
  • Verbo al presente continuo: "our planet is constantly rotating..." La forma continua indica azioni in corso e aiuta a descrivere situazioni attuali.
  • Utilizzo dell'imperativo: "Let's ask a magical question."
