1
Hey, it's Rex Brown and this February is the 25th anniversary of Vulgar Display of Power.
2
They wanted me to talk a little bit about some of my favorite memories of that record.
3
That record happened so naturally and so just happened so quickly everything came together.
4
One of my favorite memories was we had hit kind of a roadblock in the writing sessions.
5
And I remember Don and Phil went outside and smoked a joint.
6
and I think Phillip had the riff for a new level, or had an idea and wanted to get it to die, but he had to get on that same wavelength.
7
And when they came back, they had this thing, and I remember that, I mean, it didn't take us long at all to put that thing together.
8
And then it just, that chunk of that groove, I think that set the whole tone for the whole record.
9
I mean, that was really, we had done some stuff, I think, before that track,
10
but 25 years have been quite a while, but I just remember the feeling of,
11
that was really when the Brotherhood just really came into this dynamic like no other.
12
It was, as a musician,
13
it's one of those records you just pinch yourself.
14
It just happens so naturally.
15
And we knew how to play it.
16
We played after each other so well that we knew exactly where the breaks were going to be.
17
When we listened back to that, we were just a bunch of little kids at Christmas time.
18
But that was a track that definitely started everything for that record.
19
And that is one of my favorite, or if not my favorite, Pantera record.
