1
When you go all the way back to the kickabout in the garden, to your first couple matches in the park, why do you think you punched through and made it?
2
Does it come down to your raw talent?
3
For you, was it more about true grit and determination?
4
I think it's a combination of many things.
5
The biggest thing is the support that I had from my parents.
6
Without them, I wouldn't have been able to live a dream of playing for Manchester United.
7
That was my dream as a young kid.
8
So one of the reasons why I was so successful is because I had the right people around me.
9
I had great friends, great family, even to the day I retired.
10
And that was five years ago now.
11
But even in my Sunday League team, I had a manager called Stuart Underwood, who was like a sergeant major.
12
And he insisted on every game that we turn up in shirt and tie.
13
And that's one thing that kind of got installed in me from a very young age.
14
But of course, you know, hard work is something that I've always, always been about and never giving up giving up.
15
There's times when throughout my career where you're all aware of where I've made mistakes
16
or I've done something that I shouldn't have done on the field and those have impacted not just myself,
17
but it impacted my family and my friends.
18
And those are things that if you think about them too much, they can affect you but for me,
19
to understand that the only reason there's certain things that happened throughout my career, there's a reason why it happened.
20
I always turn back to 98 when I got the red card.
21
There's a reason why it happened.
22
Of course, I wish it hadn't have happened, and to have gone through what my family went through at the time was obviously difficult,
23
but it made me stronger as a person, it made me stronger as a player, and I always look at things like that.
