The Orange Coat

intermediatefashion200 words

She only wears grey, black and, on brave days, navy. Today she bought a bright orange coat, and now she has to decide whether to wear it to work.

Friday, November 8th
I bought the orange coat today. I've wanted it for three weeks. Every time I walked past the shop window, it looked at me like a dare.
The problem is that I don't wear orange. I wear grey, black, and sometimes navy if I'm feeling brave. My whole wardrobe looks like a rainy Tuesday. If I wear this coat to the office on Monday, everyone will notice. If everyone notices, someone will say something. And if someone says something, I'll go red, which is not a great look with orange.
I tried it on again at home, in front of the mirror, and I laughed out loud. Not because it looked bad. Because it looked like someone I'd like to meet.
Sophie from the third floor wears yellow trainers and a purple scarf, and nobody laughs at her. Maybe nobody laughs if you don't apologise for it.
So here's the deal I've made with myself. If it rains on Monday, I'll wear the grey one. Unless it rains, the orange one goes to work.
I've just checked the weather. Sunny all weekend. Monday: forty percent chance of rain.
I'm going to bed before I change my mind.
