Ahlaniya shabab, kif kum, shu 'akhbarkum, inshallah, gillu tamah wa gillu bikhail.
2
You guys know that I've been on YouTube for quite some time now, and people know about my passion for Arabic.
3
My very first videos are all in Arabic.
4
I always say that Arabic is the most challenging language I've ever learned.
5
I began my Arabic journey with self -study, starting with Fusa Modern Standard Arabic.
6
Then I attended some classes during a summer holiday in Morocco after
7
that I continued self -study
8
and later pursued further learning in Egypt after my master I've started with the island Arabic schools in Rabat
9
and Alexandria while in Egypt I picked up the local dialect following
10
that I taught myself the Syrian dialect
11
and practiced a lot with language exchange partners and teachers
12
so I can say I've tried a various method
13
and used a range of resources I've received a lot of
14
comments from you are asking for helping with learning Arabic In this video, I will walk you through the resources and methods I used to study Arabic.
15
I will provide you with different resources based on dialect.
16
And of course, I will give you advice to make a good study plan.
17
So, are you ready?
18
Yalla!
19
The first question I often get is, should I start with Fusha or dialect?
20
If your goal is to learn Arabic in a systematic way, to understand media, read or communicate in formal settings like education or business,
21
I highly recommend starting with Fusha.
22
I know it's a bit complex than dialect, but it lays a solid foundation for the Arabic language and makes learning any dialect easier.
23
The vocabulary and grammar basics you while learning FUSA will help you understand their usage in different dialects better.
24
On the other hand, if you are learning Arabic purely to communicate with friends
25
and family or for daily life in an Arabic -speaking country, you might want to start with the dialect.
26
But which dialect to choose depends on the country you live in.
27
As for learning resources, the Egyptian dialect has by far the most and highest quality.
28
Levantine Arabic is also a good option.
29
So, I would suggest starting with FUSA and learning it to an intermediate level.
30
Once you are comfortable there, you can gradually start introducing dialect learning into your study routine.
31
Before learning Arabic, the most important and essential part is the alphabet and pronunciation, which is also the number one challenge that foreigners have when learning Arabic.
32
Arabic consists of 28 basic letters with a variety of special character and vowel markers.
33
Arabic pronunciation is characterized by a variety of unique sounds that don't exist in many other languages.
34
These include the emphatic consonants such as and the other consonants which require deep thorough vocalization.
35
Attention, many people have this problem.
36
They maintain their wrong pronunciation even years after learning Arabic
37
because they have learned the unique arabic sound through latin alphabet
38
and latin letters do not cover the correct arabic pronunciation for example you might see the letter tar is d
39
or ra is gh and i want to point out
40
if you ask me if you should learn arabic alphabet
41
or not the answer is yes even though you learn arabic
42
just for communicating the letters are the heart of this language
43
learning latin letters not only get you pronounced wrong it won't let you to learn the real arabic in
44
which you have to observe the change of the forms
45
and understanding better the rules
46
which is also the beauty of the arabic language in arabic
47
usually only the main parts of words the consonants are written
48
down the smaller parts the vowels are often left out imagine trying to read english without the r e
49
or u letters sounds tricky right when you are learning there are little marks harakad
50
that show where and what these missing vowels sounds should be.
51
At first, cutting these vowels right might seem hard, especially because they can change the meaning of the word.
52
Reading Arabic will start to feel more natural even without vowel hints in the future.
53
I am sharing these challenges not to put you off for learning Arabic, guys, but to give you a hands -up about what to expect.
54
Because knowing what might be tough can actually make it easier
55
for you to hand those pups down the road apps i
56
recommend arabic kalila alif bay attention the popular apps duolingo does
57
have an arabic alphabet course however my arabic speaking friends
58
and i have tested it and found that some of the letters are mispronounced
59
so please pay attention you can also study with some youtube
60
channels such as learn with safar learn arabic with arabic port
61
101 the videos on arabic port 101 also teach you how to write.
62
What you need is to find notebooks to keep practicing your writing.
63
I will put the link of the videos I mentioned in the description box.
64
Just to add, if you are looking to practice writing, you can find children's exercise books on Amazon,
65
or you can simply download some templates onto your tablet and get started that way.
66
About the pronunciation, you can check out this well -explained video which showed pronunciation precision.
67
Given the unique difficulty of Arabic pronunciation, I can't stress enough the importance of practicing with a native speaker
68
or a teacher this will help you get your pronunciation right from the beginning
69
if you don't have a friends who are native speakers don't
70
worry i will introduce you an excellent language learning platform where
71
you can find native speaker teachers italki what i love most about italki is
72
that you can have one -on -one customized language lessons with
73
certified native speaking teachers with the help of italki teachers you can focus on pronunciation from the very beginning,
74
which will be incredibly helpful in setting a solid foundation.
75
As you become more comfortable with the basics, italki also serve as an excellent platform to practice your speaking skills with native teachers.
76
Even today, I continue to practice my Syrian dialect with my teacher on italki.
77
Do you know there are different classes that you can use today?
78
Zine.
79
Do you know Zine?
80
Zine, no. Zine is decoration.
81
Yes, Zine.
82
Okay.
83
The advantage of this platform is the ability to choose from a variety of teachers with diverse profiles and dialects.
84
Actually, italki offers more than just Arabic.
85
There are over 150 languages and lessons available, with prices starting at only $5 dollar
86
if you are interested click on the link in the description
87
to begin your language learning journey plus with my exclusive promo code zoe5
88
if you pay a ten dollars lesson you will receive five
89
dollars for free x plus this offer is only available for the first 50 users
90
once you've got the alphabet done you can start diving into
91
some handy textbooks i used these two french textbooks to learn full time
92
if you are french speaker they might be a good fit for you
93
if you are a bit depressed for time you could go straight for azimil
94
if you've got a bit more time to devote try manuel
95
darab moderne azimil arabic is also available for german italian speakers
96
all the books i'm recommending come with audio this is very
97
important for english speaker i recommend mastering arabic it even includes
98
lessons on the alphabet this book is organized into theme -based lessons that cover conversation regarding reading comprehension,
99
Arabic grammar, vocabulary, and exercises for the Arabic script.
100
If you would prefer to study with a teacher, many Arabic schools use the classic textbooks al -Kitab collection.
101
I used to study with these at my Arabic school.
102
I think it's the best for learning grammar, but I found the content a bit outdated once I reached the upper intermediate level.
103
For vocabulary, you can also try out some enki decks
104
but beware some of them use automatic pronunciation which can be incorrect
105
so i recommend these two decks instead as for youtube channels i recommend exploring arabic port 101
106
which offers excellent lessons for beginners
107
if you want an extra grammar lessons you can check out
108
the channel a good dictionary is also essential for checking conjugation
109
and saving new words i recommend reversal
110
and for more advanced learners alamani is a great arabic dictionary
111
for listening i recommend a podcast for beginner level a bit of arabic
112
and also the video four hours of arabic conversation practice you guys can just listen to it
113
while walking and repeating sentences this plan you can begin by focusing on the alphabet
114
and pronunciation basically you just need a notebook a video series to follow
115
and an app to practice with when you have time
116
and to learn two or four alphabets per day practicing writing and pronunciation
117
if possible consider learning with a teacher on italki after this stage pick a textbook with high quality audio
118
and study progressively you will start to learn grammar parts
119
and vocabulary from the textbooks one exercise i found helpful
120
when learning both fusa and dialect was daily conjugation writing
121
and using these verbs to make simple sentences
122
so in the study plan i prepared for you i recommend integrating conjugation exercises
123
and adding a good amount of listening exercises you can also follow various youtube channels
124
or instagram accounts to gain some basic knowledge.
125
Keep practicing and soon you will see your Arabic skills improve.
126
for this level you can keep the basic study routine with your favorite textbook
127
if you want to expand your vocabulary you can also check out these enki intermediate decks
128
but i suggest creating your own flash cards since it's hard for you to tell
129
if the tts or ai is accurately pronouncing words my arabic friends
130
and i went over the decks on enki
131
and other platforms unfortunately automated recording is inaccurate so the decks at
132
that i will be suggesting you are the ones with the authentic or good quality recording.
133
Another good platform to use at this level is Al Jazeera, learning Arabic.
134
There are a lot of videos, transcripts, and exercises good for this level, but the content, to be honest, are a bit messy.
135
Just don't study structurally with it just to do some extra exercises.
136
At this phase, you need to read and listen a lot.
137
When it comes to reading, I used to read Al Jazeera daily while learning Arabic intensively.
138
I've even started with my teacher like we read together one news article per day in my choice.
139
We learn new words and expressions and we talk about them to practice speaking.
140
New words I've learned in the lesson I put them in
141
Anki to reveal the point is to choose a topic I like personally.
142
About listening, one YouTube channel I recommend is Qanad Al Jazeera.
143
Watch the video on YouTube because some videos you have a cc subtitles
144
and you can check new words on reversal
145
or language reacted directly on the subtitle another channel is al jazeera documentary al jazeera
146
and arabi aj plus another channel such as france 24 arabic
147
meidan podcast you guys can check out al jazeera podcast there
148
are different kinds of content my favorite is rumors another podcast
149
for fusa listening is hudu they are all good for listening exercises as i said before
150
when you get to an intermediate level you can also start to learn the dialect
151
if you specifically interested in learning egyptian dialect there's a great
152
book series called kalami alabi the books are full of useful
153
engaging conversations complete with high quality audio of real colloquial speech plus you will get plenty of reading practice
154
if you are more interested in levantai dialect i recommend the book series Shui Anhali.
155
This collection comes with native speakers, audios, and even an Anki deck.
156
I used to use the book Syrian Arabic Voices to learn Syrian dialect by myself.
157
I basically did shadowing for each text and started to notice the difference between Fusha, Egyptian dialect, and Syrian dialect.
158
By the way, Linguism is a fantastic platform for Arabic learning resources, especially for their variety of flash cards decks with original audios
159
but they are not free for free anki decks you can
160
check these decks one for levantai another for egyptian dialect to be honest there are many resources for this level
161
that vary from news channels to tv series
162
and podcasts you can check out the channel anas burrash anas
163
brings together a lot of guests basically famous people in the arab world
164
so the conversations are often in different dialects the The good thing is that there are English subtitles.
165
I often choose the interview with Levantar Arabic and do shadowing.
166
Another great channel for Syrian and Egyptian dialect is AJ+.
167
For the podcast, I highly recommend Assault in Jordanian dialect.
168
Assault offers a set of engaging podcasts that delve into culture, politics, literature, and social across the Arab world.
169
Al -Bulbul, the episodes feature conversations in natural Jordanian Arabic and the lesson transcripts are available on their website.
170
And of course, Saturday after dinner, mainly in Lebanese dialect, focusing on social or all kinds of intellectual topics.
171
If you want to watch the series, you can check out the website Shahed the Arabic Netflix.
172
Actually, there are also some Arabic movies and series on Netflix.
173
The plan I prepared for intermediate to advanced learners is based
174
on immersion method you will need to engage in extensive listening
175
and reading you can continue to use your favorite textbook
176
if you like however i recommend adding at least 30 minutes of intensive listening
177
and shadowing exercises daily you can write in a journal
178
but try to incorporate the new words you just learned for vocabulary is already an achievement
179
if you can digest all the new words you learn from your textbook
180
and intensive listening in the end read contents that interest you articles books
181
and media websites building a habit of a daily reading will
182
truly help you expand your vocabulary for intermediate learners it's not only important to do a lot of input exercises
183
but also output exercises as i mentioned before a platform like italki can be very beneficial
184
if you want to practice your speaking skills in fusa
185
or other dialects if you are interested in the arabic language
186
and want to know more about its history
187
and evolution you can also check out this video learning a
188
new language is one of the most mind -opening experiences you
189
could have imagine having the ability to communicate with nearly half
190
a billion people around 22 countries let's put an end to the toxic stereotypes
191
that the media often present instead try to communicate
192
and understand each other i never thought in my life
193
that my best friends would be arab and
194
that i would enjoy traveling through the middle east to be honest i'm thankful for the risks
195
and the hard work that i've put into my language learning journey
196
and i hope you guys can have the same experience as
197
well as we learn to truly understand each other enjoy your summer and see you in the next video bye
