1
See, you can do anything.
2
You can get up any hour, read any book, take any class, make any change, develop any skill, do any discipline.
3
I mean, you can do it all.
4
When this how and the why, or when the why starts to grow, the how gets simple.
5
How to get whatever you want.
6
That's the title of the next set of notes.
7
How to get whatever you want.
8
Here's what it says if you're ready.
9
It says, Ask That's it.
10
End of notes.
11
Ask.
12
If there's one art in life to learn extremely well, that's got to be one of them.
13
The art of asking.
14
What does ask mean?
15
Ask means what do you want?
16
A guy ought to look into that.
17
See, you've got to be better than a good worker.
18
You've got to be a good asker.
19
Now, let me give you three key points on asking and receiving.
20
This can do it.
21
Number one, asking is the beginning of receiving.
22
I want you to ponder these four questions.
23
Here's the first one, and that's why.
24
work this hard why go this far why try to learn
25
this much why develop yourself to the full why try to become all
26
that you can possibly become that's a good question why
27
and you're the only one personally that can answer
28
that question for yourself you've got to have your own list of why's on your list of whys.
29
One of the big thrusts for success is to come up with a strong enough why.
30
In leadership training, here's what we learn.
31
If the why is powerful, the how is easy.
32
Some people never will have much.
33
They're too cautious.
34
Now you can also be too reckless, but you can also be too cautious.
35
This is called the timid approach to life.
36
I used to say, what if this happens? of the poor.
37
What if this happens?
38
And on top of that, if this was to happen, look at the fix I'd be in.
39
I better not try.
40
When I finally discovered it's all risky.
41
The minute you were born, it got risky.
42
If you think trying is risky, wait till they hand you the bill for not trying.
43
See, it's all risky.
44
Getting married is risky.
45
Having children is risky.
46
Going into business is risky.
47
Investing your money is risky.
48
It's all risky.
49
I'll tell you how risky life is.
50
You're not going to get out alive.
51
I had one of the greatest lessons I ever learned, and I'm about to share it with you.
52
This will be worth the price of being here today.
53
If you can capture what I'm about to share with you.
54
Here's what Mr. Shove said.
55
Set a goal to become a millionaire.
56
And he said, here's why.
57
For what it will make of you to achieve it.
58
And I got one of the greatest classes in one sentence I've ever received in my life.
59
Set a goal that will make you stretch that far.
60
For what it will make of you to achieve it.
61
What a brand new reason for setting goals.
62
And here's why.
63
The greatest value in life is not what you get.
64
The greatest value in life is what you become.
65
Poor people usually spend their money and invest what's left.
66
That's the philosophy of the poor.
67
Now here's the philosophy of the rich.
68
Rich people invest their money and spend what's left.
69
And here's the startling answer.
70
It really doesn't matter what the amount is.
71
What's most important is not the amount.
72
What's really important is the philosophy.
73
So I would ask you to adopt this philosophy of spending after you have invested,
74
invest The first question to ponder when you go home is why?
75
Here's another good answer to why it's the second question.
76
Why not?
77
Why not see how much you can earn?
78
Why not see how much you can learn?
79
you can develop.
80
Why not see what kind of person you can become?
81
Why not see what kind of influence you can have?
82
Why not see how many people you can rescue from oblivion?
83
I want you to take that personal.
84
Why not?
85
Why not?
86
Now here's number three.
87
Why not you?
88
I wish I could say that to each of you individually, but it would take a couple of lifetimes to sit down and talk with each of you individually.
89
But I want you to take it personal.
90
And my personal question to you is why not you?
91
And all this machinery starts working.
92
I don't know how it just works.
93
There's a lot of things you don't need to know how just work.
94
Some people are always studying the roots.
95
Others are picking the fruit.
96
I mean, it depends on what end of it you want in on.
97
Asking is the beginning of receiving.
98
So start the process.
99
Here's number two.
100
Receiving is not the problem.
101
Receiving is automatic.
102
Now, if that's true, receiving is not the problem, what's the problem?
103
Failure to ask might be one of your major problems.
104
I don't know, check it out.
105
The guy says, oh, now I see it.
106
I got up last year and hit it every day, but there's not a scrap of paper with my goals on.
107
Good work.
108
ask.
109
So you got to change that.
110
Here's number three.
111
Receiving is like the ocean.
112
There's plenty.
113
Success is not in short supply.
114
It isn't rationed.
115
And you stepped up to the window and it was all gone.
116
No, no, no. It's like an ocean here.
117
Now, if that's true, what's the problem?
118
Well, some people boo.
119
Have you got the picture?
120
Take full responsibility for what happens to you.
121
It's one of the highest forms of human maturity, accepting full responsibility.
122
It's the day you know you've passed from childhood to adulthood, the day you accept full responsibility.
123
I used to have that long list of reasons why I wasn't doing well.
124
I used to blame the government.
125
I used to blame they expect you to do well.
126
I used to blame the weather.
127
I blamed the traffic.
128
I used to blame my car.
129
I blamed the manufacturers.
130
See, I used to blame everything outside.
131
And then let me give you a little philosophy that helped turn my life around for your notes.
132
Here it is.
133
It's not what happens.
134
That determines the quality or the quantity of your life.
135
It's not what happens.
136
It's what you do that changes everything.
137
You can change your life.
138
You can grow immensely in the next few years.
139
You can make your dreams come true.
140
You can build a financial wall around your family.
141
Nothing can get through.
142
You can become healthy.
143
You can become powerful.
144
Why not you?
145
And I'm here to say that I'm ready to pledge my support to make your personal dreams come true.
146
I asked the question, why not you?
147
But I'm not going to ask it and just walk away.
148
I'm going to ask it and walk with you.
149
And now here's my last question.
150
My very last question on the questions to ponder is why not now?
151
There never was a better time.
152
Take this dream and not let it die.
153
Take this dream and give it life.
154
Take this dream and breathe into it your own personal spirit.
155
Until finally it becomes a flame that burns around the whole world.
156
pocket and nothing in the bank and behind on these promises.
157
Well, I was a hard worker, but I was working hard on my job, not on my cell.
158
I'm telling you, if you'll learn that simple.
159
And if we don't.
160
From the children of Sanchez, it says, take the crumbs from starving soldiers, they won't die.
161
Take the bread from hungry children, they won't cry.
162
But without dreams, We all will die.
163
You've got to dream.
164
Don't lose your dreams for yourself, for your future, for your families.
165
Do some dreaming.
166
Resolve.
167
Resolve says I will.
168
Two of the most powerful words in the language.
169
I'll do it or die.
170
Best definition of resolve I got from a little junior high girl, Foster City, California.
171
I'm going through some words one day.
172
I got to this one and I asked the kids who can tell me what resolve means.
173
Some didn't know, some tried.
174
Interesting.
175
The last one was the best.
176
Little girl about three years back.
177
She said, I think I know Mr. Oh, I said what?
178
She said, I think resolve means promising yourself you will never give up.
179
I said, that's the best ever heard.
180
She's probably giving seminars somewhere today, right?
181
That's the best I've heard.
182
I asked the kids, how long should a baby try to learn how to walk?
183
How long would you give your average baby before you say, hey, enough, enough.
184
No. Any mother in the world would say you're crazy.
185
My baby is going to keep trying what?
186
Until what a magic word.
187
I want you to write it down until promise yourself you'll read the books until your skills change.
188
You'll go to seminars until you get a handle on it.
189
You'll listen to it until it makes sense.
190
You'll go for it until you understand it.
191
You'll practice it until you develop the skill.
192
Never give up until however long that is.
193
Step by step, piece by piece, book by book, word by word, apple by apple, walk around the block, walk around the block.
194
Go for it.
195
Don't miss the chance to grow and resolve
196
that you'll pay the price until you learn change grow become then you'll discover some of life's best treasures
197
when you pay disgust disgust is a negative emotion
198
but it can have a very positive powerful effect disgust says I've had it what an important day
199
that could be I've had it
200
accomplished executive lady in New York company invited me to come
201
in this lady was the vice president's extraordinary lady I got to know her
202
and I found out her story I said how did you get here big income
203
and she never went to high never went to college never
204
went to university I said how did you get here executive
205
powerful income she said well let me tell you part of the scenario she
206
I was a young mother a few years ago.
207
She said, one day I asked my husband for $10.
208
And he said, what for?
209
She said, before that day was over, I decided I would never, ever ask.
210
again.
211
She said I started studying opportunity, found it, took the classes, put myself through the schools, did the scenario.
212
Now I'm vice president.
213
I make a lot of money.
214
And she said I kept my promise.
215
I've never, ever had to ask again.
216
It's called a life changing Now if you can add an act to your disgust, it helps.
217
The man takes a shotgun to his car, blows out every window, destroys every tire, puts a hundred rounds in it and says, I've driven this embarrassing thing for the last time.
218
And then he saves it.
219
He saves it.
220
And later when somebody says, how did you become rich and powerful?
221
He says, let me show you this car.
222
rings.
223
Enough is enough.
224
If you want to be wealthy and happy the rest of your life, just learn this lesson well.
225
Learn to work harder on yourself than you do on your job.
226
So instead of going after it, you work on yourself.
227
Personal development.
228
Because true happiness is not contained in what you get.
229
become.
230
To be successful study success.
231
If you wish to be happy study happiness.
232
If you wish to be wealthy study wealth.
233
Don't leave it to chance.
234
Make it a study.
235
Some people just go through the day with their fingers crossed.
236
Now let's talk about personal development and in helping kids understand personal development I always start with money.
237
Now money is not the only place to
238
isn't the only value but we've all got to start somewhere
239
and money something you can count right kids are interested in
240
money okay a lot of things are a little tougher to measure
241
but economics is pretty easy right
242
because you can count okay somebody says how are you doing
243
so I don't know let's count now this is not the only count I understand
244
that there's a lot of other things in your life,
245
we might as well start with money because it's so easy to count.
246
So let's just start there and see whether or not maybe we have messed up.
247
Okay.
248
So here's how I explain it to kids.
249
We get paid for bringing value to the marketplace.
250
Key to understanding economics.
251
We get paid for bringing value Marketplace is also described as reality.
252
Promotions, no problem.
253
Becoming more valuable to the company, no problem.
254
Money, no problem.
255
Economics, no problem.
256
Future, no problem.
257
If you just go to work on the right thing.
258
Not get things out there to change.
259
Don't try to change the seed.
260
Don't change the soil.
261
Don't change the sunshine.
262
Don't change the rain.
263
Don't change the mix of seasons.
264
everything that's available work for you
265
and start working on the inside work on your philosophy work
266
on your attitude work on your personality work on your language work on the gift of communication
267
work on all of your abilities and
268
if you'll start making those personal changes I'm telling you everything
269
will change for you now let me give you another okay
270
number one was find out how things work here's number two go to work
271
if there's one thing to get excited over that's it get excited make yourself do the necessary things.
272
What could you make yourself do starting tomorrow that would change it all?
273
No, tell it.
274
Now, see, that's exciting.
275
On any given day, you can massively change the direction of your life.
276
Now here's here's what else it takes for life change self -motivation key phrase self -motivation.
277
I Don't know why we call it self -motivation.
278
It's really the only kind there is you got to motivate yourself and you know
279
Find out how it works work it but don't try to beat it
280
Some people learn just enough to start slicing it shading it thinning it cutting corners and looking for cheap answers
281
for that you'll wind up with a cheap life.
282
Look at the last five
283
because the next five are going to be like the last
284
five unless you made your key tomorrow change it all or change a little or change something or don't change.
285
It's choice time.
286
You can do whatever you want.
287
But it's nice to know any day you wish you can change your whole life.
288
Let me give you the day that turns your life around as quickly as I can.
289
I got four parts to the day that that turns your life around.
290
Then we're finished for the day.
291
Number one, discuss.
