1
Stop me if you've heard this before.
2
You sit down at the piano, you know your chords, but when you play them, it sounds boring or stiff, like you're just pressing keys.
3
That's because most beginners think learning chords is enough, but it's not.
4
The secret to sounding professional isn't what you play, it's how you play it.
5
And in this video, I'm going to show you five simple patterns that'll take your
6
chords from sounding like a beginner to sounding like a real musician.
7
So let's get into it.
8
Here's what nobody tells you.
9
The difference between sounding amateur and sounding amazing isn't talent or years of practice.
10
It's rhythm patterns.
11
Professional pianists don't just play chords.
12
They break them up, move them around, and add groove.
13
That's what makes songs feel alive.
14
And once you learn these five patterns, you'll be able to take any song you're learning and make it sound 10 times better.
15
By the way, I made a free chord patterns cheat sheet with all five of these patterns written out
16
so you can practice them.
17
Just find it in the link in the description of this video.
18
Now, all of these patterns today are going to use the same four chords.
19
We're going to play C major, G major, A minor, and F major.
20
That's it.
21
Same chords, five completely different sounds, so let me show you.
22
Pattern number one, the pop song foundation.
23
Pattern number one is called the pop song foundation.
24
This is the simplest pattern, but you hear it everywhere in popular music.
25
Here's what it sounds like.
26
So So let's break this down.
27
We're going to play the chord in our right hand and a steady pulse in our left hand.
28
So for example with C major, I'm going to play the C major chord and then my left hand is going to play C.
29
So they're going to go together, left, together, left and keep going like that.
30
Then I'm going to go to the G major chord.
31
I'm going to move my right hand
32
and it's going to do the same thing but I'm going to play G in my left hand.
33
Together, left.
34
Then A minor, same thing, together.
35
And then F major in my right hand and an F in my left hand.
36
Together, left.
37
And then we're just going to end on the C major chord.
38
This pattern is all over pop music.
39
It's simple, but it works.
40
The key is keeping your left hand steady like a heartbeat.
41
That's what drives the whole song forward.
42
Pattern number two is the sing-along pattern.
43
This one is perfect if you want to play and sing at the same time.
44
Here's what it sounds like.
45
All right, so that's beautiful, right?
46
So let me break it down.
47
What's happening is we're just splitting the chord.
48
So for example, C major is our first chord.
49
In our right hand, we're going to use what we call fingers three and five, last two notes of the chord, and then we're going to rock to the first note of the chord like this.
50
Then you're going to move to G major, which is G, B, D, and do the same thing.
51
Three and five, rocking to finger one.
52
Then A minor, same thing, and F major.
53
In our left hand, we were just holding the root notes.
54
This pattern shows up in songs like Imagine by John Lennon.
55
it's softer and more gentle and it's perfect if you're singing over it because it's not too busy.
56
Pattern number three, the emotional sweep.
57
Pattern number three is one of my favorites.
58
I call it the emotional sweep.
59
This is an arpeggio pattern which means you're playing the notes of the chord one at a time instead of all together.
60
So here's what that sounds like.
61
All right, so let me show you how this one works.
62
For C major, you're going to play the notes in in this order.
63
The C major chord is always C, E, G.
64
So instead, with this pattern, we don't play it all together.
65
We break it up.
66
So we would just go C, E, G, E.
67
And you just do that twice, like this.
68
Then you're going to move to G major.
69
Same thing, break it up.
70
Then you're going to move to A minor, same thing. And then F major.
71
In your left hand, you're just going to hold that root note.
72
and don't forget if you want all of these patterns written out so you can practice them step by step
73
grab my free chord patterns cheat sheet just find it in the link in the description of this video
74
pattern number four is the groove maker this is where we start adding some funk and energy here's what that sounds like.
75
Now let me break this one down because it's a little trickier.
76
What's happening here is a little bit of syncopation.
77
That means you're playing off of the beat.
78
So watch this.
79
First we're going to go together.
80
Then your right hand comes in.
81
Then your left hand comes in.
82
So watch that slowly.
83
Watch that one more time because I know it's hard to keep up with that one.
84
Together, right, left, together.
85
Then you're going to move to the next chord and do that.
86
Now, I was playing an octave in my left hand.
87
That's where we go two C's or two G's.
88
You can just do that with one C or one G.
89
You don't have to do an octave.
90
So in the end, it will sound like this.
91
Pattern
92
number five is the show-off.
93
Pattern number five is the most advanced one, and that's why I call it the show-off.
94
This is an arpeggio pattern with syncopation, so it's got a little bit of everything.
95
So here's what it sounds like.
96
All right, like I said, this one was the most tricky.
97
So I'm going to break down the right hand first.
98
We're going to start with C major, which is always C, E, G.
99
But when we do this pattern, we're actually starting on E, the middle note.
100
Then we're moving finger two to G, finger 3 to C and then 3 and 5 on C
101
and E and then we go right back down to G
102
and E so watch
103
that really slowly then we're gonna do the same thing with G major we're starting on B
104
which is the middle note of the chord A minor starting on C instead of A, the middle note.
105
And then F major starting on the middle note.
106
But you use the same fingers for every single time you play it.
107
So watch the fingers one more time.
108
in my left hand I'm just holding the root
109
so you can either do one note or you can do an octave so in the end it sounds like this
110
When I made this pattern, it was actually inspired by Elton John, so you hear it in songs like your song.
111
It's flashy, it fills the space, and honestly, it sounds impressive.
112
The key is to practice it slowly first and get the finger motion down and then speed it up.
113
So look, you don't need to spend years learning complex theory or reading sheet music to sound good at piano.
114
You just need the right tools.
115
These five patterns are tools, and once you've practiced them, you'll be able to sit down and make any song sound full, professional, and musical.
116
That's the difference between playing chords and actually making music.
117

  • Stop me if you've heard this before: "이미 들어본 적이 있다면 말려주세요" - 대화에서 공통 경험을 이야기할 때 자주 쓰이는 표현입니다.

"the secret to sounding professional"에서 "secret"의 't'는 약하게 발음되어 "secre(t)"처럼 들리며, "it's how you play it"에서 "it's"와 "how"는 연결되어 "it'show"처럼 발음됩니다.
