1
Hey everybody, today we're making another video where we're going to be practicing your speaking and conversational skills by having a conversation,
2
you and me.
3
Well, because you asked for it and I'm very glad that you love this format.
4
So let's go over what it's going to look like.
5
I have prepared a dialogue.
6
One line is for me and the other one is for you.
7
You will see them on the screen.
8
I'm gonna say my line and you're gonna read your line out loud on the screen
9
and that's gonna be your response and then vice versa.
10
The first line will be yours and the second mine.
11
This exercise will give you already ready lines
12
and answers to use in real life with other people and get you prepared to have conversations.
13
In addition, you might pick up a phrase or two.
14
And for this video,
15
I thought it'd be useful to go through a dialogue of two people meeting each other for the first time
16
and let's say a mutual friend introduced them.
17
I believe that we've all been in such a situation
18
and we know that it's a little bit unnerving
19
and might be awkward and sometimes you might not know what to say especially if you need to say this in English.
20
So this dialogue might give you some ideas.
21
Let's proceed.
22
I'm saying my line and then you'll see your line on the screen
23
and say it out loud as if you were answering to me.
24
Hi, you must be Anna.
25
I'm Alex.
26
It's nice to meet you.
27
So Steph tells me the two of you go way back.
28
Yeah, we actually met in college though,
29
then after we both landed jobs at the same company.
30
I'm from New York, Brooklyn.
31
But you live in New York now, right?
32
Oh yeah?
33
Whereabouts?
34
No way, I know that place.
35
I've been there several times over the years.
36
I've never had bad meal there and it's a nice touch having that view of Central Park.
37
So if you've worked there since college then we might have crossed paths there more than once in the last couple years.
38
Oh, congratulations!
39
So that means that I have likely eaten and enjoyed dinners you have made.
40
That sounds fabulous!
41
I will make it a point to go there next time I'm home.
42
And now we switch lines.
43
The first one will be yours and the second mine.
44
So now you start.
45
Hi Alex, yes, it's nice to meet you too.
46
Yeah, we grew up together here in Columbus.
47
We lived a couple blocks apart as kids and went to school together all through high school.
48
And you guys work together?
49
Oh nice!
50
So where are you from originally?
51
Yeah I went there for culinary school but then got a job at a restaurant right after graduation.
52
in Manhattan, a small French restaurant called Per Se.
53
Well, I've always worked in the kitchen.
54
First as an assistant to the head chef,
55
but as of 6 months ago as the head chef myself after he retired.
56
Oh, thank you, that's so nice of you to say.
57
You know, our menu now has some new entries.
58
My own personal creations actually.
59
You should step in and try some sometime whenever you're back in New York.
60
It'll be on the house.
61
Awesome, I look forward to it.
62
And now let's listen to the whole dialogue.
63
Hi, you must be Anna.
64
I'm Alex.
65
It's nice to meet you.
66
Hi Alex.
67

  • “Nice to meet you”:
  • “Where are you from?”:
  • “I’ve been there several times”:
