Shadowing Practice: Can You Safely Drink Your Own Pee? - Learn English Speaking with Video

Les maken...
1
This is Mr. Beast, and this is Mr. Beast's pee.
2
And my goal in this video is to use science to purify this into perfectly drinkable water, at which point, he will drink his own pee.
3
Wait, you didn't tell me that part.
4
I'm gonna drink my own pee?
5
But it's for a really good cause, because if I can figure out how to do this, then the same technology could be used to help the 2
6
billion people without access to clean drinking water to purify even the dirtiest water that looks like this, or even much, much worse.
7
Eww.
8
time finding clean water, but a really easy time finding clever brains solving that problem.
9
And that just happened to be Kenya.
10
So step two was to go there and meet the people doing just that.
11
The first thing you notice when you get to Kenya isn't
12
so much the elephant crossings or the random baboon families you see walking around.
13
It's these yellow jugs you see people carrying everywhere.
14
And as it turns out, those jugs are meant to carry water.
15
And as it also turns out, out they were all headed to the same place I was.
16
Ruthie!
17
Hey Mark!
18
Hey!
19
Who knew Kenya was so far?
20
But so beautiful, welcome!
21
Very beautiful, I'll give you that.
22
Thank you!
23
This lovely human is Ruthie and she works for GivePower
24
and they build a magical machine
25
that could turn even the most disgusting water into pure drinking water using only the power of the sun.
26
So we changed literal ocean water into fresh drinking water.
27
I'll have you taste.
28
Okay.
29
I think you'll like it.
30
Don't try and influence the judge Ruthie.
31
And when I Taste it a cup of water from either side of their treatment process.
32
Hopes and prayers, let's go.
33
With the before water, you can really taste the before.
34
That tastes like sea water.
35
It is sea water!
36
This is what people drink?
37
Yes.
38
And the reason for that is 96 % of the homes you see here don't have running water.
39
Which means they often have to get their water from unclean sources that carry a lot of uncool diseases.
40
So while you and I might take for granted
41
that we could just pull a lever and effectively infinite clean water comes out from a faucet, two billion people don't have that luxury so they need to get creative.
42
In this case by putting the entire ocean into their very own water tower.
43
I'm so glad they did because that meant when I tried the after cup, that is crazy the difference.
44
Right?
45
This tastes amazing.
46
This tastes fresh.
47
This was in the ocean less than 24 hours ago.
48
It was.
49
Wow.
50
So like no fish poop.
51
No fish poop.
52
No cholera.
53
Giardia?
54
No dysentery.
55
Nothing.
56
Not even dysentery?
57
Now to understand how this was even possible, I built a simplified transparent version of their magic machine back at home and decided to put it to the ultimate test.
58
Oh boy.
59
Let's go.
60
Oh no. I don't like the noise.
61
Good!
62
Oh, wow.
63
He's got to turn it on!
64
So if you pump out the dirty water from here, then after all this, a little bit of extra clean water should come out here.
65
And to put my engineering money where my mouth is, I vowed I would drink that water.
66
Hayes, why am I even doing this?
67
Two billion people in the world drink poison every single day, and we've got to do something about it.
68
By the way, this is Hayes.
69
He's the dude that founded Give Power, and he did it after making a pretty obvious observation.
70
73 % of people in the world live in coastal communities.
71
This seems ludicrous to me that we have these oceans with all this water, yet 2 billion people lack access to fresh, affordable water.
72
So their trick to solve the problem is to mount reverse osmosis water filter systems in shipping containers, which not only makes them easy to ship,
73
but now you can just plop the thing next to a large dirty water source, even in a totally remote location with no power, and you can make 70 ,000 liters of water per day.
74
That is how much ocean water is magically being transformed into fresh drinking water, just in one location every single day.
75
And it's all fully solar powered.
76
So with my digestive system on the line, it's worth explaining exactly how their magic machine works.
77
Let's say you have two buckets.
78
One with totally pure water, and one that has a bunch of salt and gross stuff in it along with pure water.
79
Well if you connect them, then separate them with a barrier that has holes so small only tiny pure water molecules can get through, what you'll find is over time,
80
the pure water molecules all on their own will pass through those tiny holes in the barrier, to spread out and hang out with more of their pure water molecule friends over here.
81
In nature, that's called osmosis.
82
Well reverse osmosis is where we do that backwards.
83
and that basically squeezes any pure water molecules through that membrane while all the salt and other junk can't make it through.
84
So the good news is, you've got all this fresh water.
85
Bad news is, there's one critical flaw.
86
How do you deliver a swimming pool worth of fresh water every day when 96 % of the houses don't have plumbing?
87
And the answer is, they give the water away for almost free, as you can see here with my buddy Mangala.
88
He's the brains behind the local water delivery crew, but today, that's delicious.
89
I was the muscle.
90
I got this.
91
Oh, Mangala!
92
Is it moving?
93
How do you do this?
94
Oh, we got it.
95
Who knew selling water was so hard?
96
I'm putting my back into it!
97
I feel like I'm doing most of pushing here, Mangala.
98
I'm fake pushing.
99
Let's go!
100
Okay, now your turn.
101
I soon realized I was better off as the face of the operation.
102
Who wants water?
103
Bambo!
104
Bambo!
105
Magi!
106
Where's our first customer?
107
Magi Fresh!
108
40 shillings!
109
20!
110
20 shillings!
111
Actually, I think I work best as the heart.
112
At this point, I'm more about supporting emotionally.
113
I can't imagine doing this seven times a day.
114
But these guys are the water pipes, delivering with individual houses that don't have that infrastructure.
115
So by selling the water at a discounted rate to the guys who come by with all the yellow jugs, like Mangala, those human water pipes can then deliver the water for a small profit,
116
incentivizing them to deliver as much as they can to those who need it, and this way, all the money stays in their community.
117
If they're not home, we could just leave it here, right?
118
Rawr!
119
It's crazy that this fresh drinking water was just in the ocean yesterday, and now it's in their house, ready to use for anything.
120
How many cans do you deliver a day?
121
One hundred.
122
A hundred?
123
And you push all of them?
124
I'm gonna stick to making YouTube videos.
125
Speaking of which...
126
I can't believe I'm doing this for a stupid YouTube video.
127
It seems to be working.
128
Oh gosh.
129
Actually, more is coming out than I anticipated.
130
Back up, cop.
131
Hold on.
132
You're sure this is gonna work?
133
but I believe the technology.
134
Oh boy.
135
It does look clear.
136
That is a good sign.
137
Moment of truth.
138
I'm turning it off.
139
That looks like pretty dang clear water.
140
Oh boy.
141
Smells like water.
142
That's a good first sign.
143
Why am I so nervous?
144
Still smells like clean water.
145
Now to be fair, my only saving grace here is that three minutes and 59 seconds later in this video, Mr. Beast is gonna have to do something very similar.
146
Oh boy.
147
Okay, here we go.
148
Does that have to be a big sip?
149
It's a gulp.
150
It's a gulp?
151
Put it down.
152
I never agreed to a gulp.
153
Be brave, be bold.
154
Believe in engineering, believe in science, believe in a better way.
155
- The President and the President, the President, It tastes like very fresh water.
156
That is incredible.
157
From this, it just leached out all the little pure water molecules.
158
And now I'm feeling refreshed.
159
So at one location, you make 70 ,000 liters a day.
160
- That's right.
161
And everything we don't sell, we give away.
162
- Let's go.
163
And this was actually my favorite part about everything they do.
164
And it's something Ruthie mentioned when I got to ride along for one of these deliveries.
165
So we choose pools.
166
and hospitals and children's orphanages and we give all that water away.
167
Hit it!
168
The pump has started!
169
And when speaking to the principal of one of those schools, the real impact of all this hit me.
170
Pump it!
171
Pump it!
172
Pump it!
173
Okay, here we go!
174
Because ever since their school started getting clean water deliveries, attendance is doubled because this is the only access to clean water they have.
175
You want some more?
176
And he said this means not only have so many of their stomach and health issues improved, but now they don't have to spend time every day fetching dirty water.
177
So they have more time to attend school and invest in their future.
178
Boong -da -pa!
179
Boong -da -pa!
180
Aaaaaaah!
181
And seeing these lovely fellow humans, who despite living on the other side of the planet are so similar to us in so many ways,
182
find such joy and appreciation for a simple fresh glass of water, was a good reminder of what can happen, when the power of engineering is used for good,
183
even for something as basic as fresh clean water.
184
Okay, so you want me to pour my pee in that bucket?
185
That's right.
186
Oh my gosh, this is gross.
187
It's for science.
188
All right, Jimmy.
189
Well, thanks to the power of reverse osmosis, time has come.
190
Oh my gosh.
191
How you feeling?
192
If I taste any pee particles, I'm spitting this on you.
193
How much do you believe in the science?
194
Oh, you wanna just do it?
195
If you're watching this video, we need your help getting water purifying systems like this to kids and people who need it all over the world.
196
So buckle up, because the next 30 days are going to be crazy.
197
You might remember five years ago when we did Team Trees and we raised $20 million to plant 20 million trees.
198
Huge success!
199
So afterwards we did Team Seas.
200
We raised $30 million to pull 30 million pounds of trash out of the ocean.
201
Also, huge success.
202
That means on average every one dollar we raise gives one human clean water for a year.
203
What if I do 20 bucks?
204
Bam!
205
Now it will last 20 years.
206
Just using this machine?
207
No. To scale this up and pull this off, we've been working with WaterAid because they're the best.
208
They've been doing this for over 40 years.
209
They've got a four -star charity navigator score, and they can make sure the clean water goes to 2 million people all across the world.
210
But to do that, we need to raise 40 million dollars, which truthfully me and Mark Grover can't do on our own.
211
platform coming together to make content on Team Water to help us hit our $40 million goal.
212
I'm so excited for Team Water.
213
I'm in for Team Water.
214
Team Water.
215
Team Water.
216
Let's do this.
217
So join all your favorite creators on Team Water by watching
218
and sharing all the Team Water content you see for the next month
219
and then by heading to Teamwater .org and giving as much as you can afford right now.
220
With all the division and doom and gloom online today, this is one of those rare moments where we all get to push in the same direction and do something really meaningful.
221
It's a chance to prove the best parts
222
that make us humans still exist in abundance and that young people can be a catalyst for positive change in the world.
223
I am so stoked.
224
We totally got this.
225
Alright Jimmy, no more stalling.
226
Let's see it.
227
Oh gosh.
228
- I'm just gonna close my eyes.
229
- Oh, interesting.
230
Yeah, tastes like clean water.
231
Hashtag science.
