Welcome to the Comprehensible Input vlog.
2
Today I'm in Ho Chi Minh City, specifically District 2, and I've got some errands to run.
3
I'm going to bring you guys along
4
and I'm going to show you some key words in English and explain them as I go to my next destination, which is the mall.
5
So on this road I'm on, there is a lot of construction happening right now.
6
It's Friday I'm on the sidewalk now and here we have a bus stop.
7
So it looks like there's some sort of
8
power on this bus stop maybe to give you light
9
or maybe there's some sort of air conditioning there that would be crazy.
10
But it is quite busy today a lot of cars and bikes on the road
11
and actually over there it says animal doctor that is a vet office so that is a place where sick animals,
12
your cats, your dogs, your bunny, or many different types of animals.
13
If they're sick, they're injured, or you want to get them checked out, you bring them to the vet or veterinarian or animal doctor,
14
and they will take care of your animal.
15
While I'm walking to the mall, I'm also on the lookout for some place to eat lunch.
16
It is just after 12 right now, and I'm a little bit hungry want to eat something as well i just squeezed through
17
that lidded gap there these are concrete structures
18
that i'm guessing are going to be used for the construction that is going on on this road
19
but for now they're on the sidewalk taking up a lot of space
20
but that's okay
21
because i'm sure the construction will be over quick anyway it got surprisingly quiet i'm about to turn the bend
22
going down towards the mall it's about a 15 20 minute walk
23
but today is not very hot
24
so it's actually kind of enjoyable to be walking out
25
and getting some fresh air the district i'm in district two is a really nice
26
and livable area there's a lot of greenery you can see here a lot of plants
27
and there's also a very large expat community that means there's a lot of foreigners that live
28
in this neighborhood here we have a very large school
29
so it's called the british international school i've heard a lot about this school
30
and it's for grade school so it's not a university it's for younger kids
31
and it is a private school
32
so it's one of the best schools in ho chi minh city
33
and it is very popular i don't know
34
if you can see it on camera but because of all this construction and
35
dirt that they put on the ground there's a lot of dust in the air very dusty along this road
36
and you can see it's getting all over the tables
37
and chairs and trees that are along this side of the road
38
so it's a lot of work to keep it clean see
39
some more dust there it's a lot of work to keep it clean
40
and keep your business looking nice if it's along this side of the road here you can
41
There's some concrete and then they are redoing the road right over there
42
so you can see the dirt and some of the bricks have been laid out.
43
I have to walk pretty much on the road to be able to continue down this path.
44
You can see they're putting the curb in actually
45
so this side is finished and this side just has the mold to pour the concrete.
46
So once it's all done they'll take out these wooden pieces and just the concrete curb will be left.
47
the worst of it this section right here it looks like over there it gets a lot cleaner
48
and there's no construction so hopefully it's not as dusty
49
because i am breathing in a lot of dust right now
50
okay i'm back on a nice sidewalk now well nice enough there are parts that are missing
51
north east west direction you can go pretty directly to the water but there are also a lot of
52
gated communities like this you can't go in there unless you have special permission
53
there's a lot of wealthy gated communities here especially along the river
54
that are blocked off the regular people like me but sometimes there are businesses inside of those gated communities
55
So I went to a capybara cafe in one of these gated communities and it was really cool.
56
You can check out my short form video on that on my account but I really liked it.
57
In this neighborhood there are also a lot of small stores, independent stores.
58
They call boutique stores.
59
So they have boutique clothing stores, boutique restaurants, boutique cafes.
60
like mcdonald's or starbucks it's a small business also i've actually eaten at
61
that restaurant it's called eddie's and it's an american style diner
62
and it's funny that i'm talking about them now
63
because tomorrow is fourth of july so eddie's
64
and a bunch of different american restaurants are going to be
65
having fourth of july celebrations i'm probably going to be going to a fourth of july fun.
66
It's kind of like a barbecue festival like you would see in the USA
67
but it is in Vietnam so I want to see how they do it differently.
68
Fourth of July is also known as an Independence Day.
69
So just like Canada has July 1st Canada Day, Fourth of July is an Independence Day.
70
And let me know guys, let me know in the comment when is your country's Independence Day if it has one.
71
Some countries
72
lot of countries that were colonized have an independence day here's an interesting building
73
the german dental clinic it is a massive building
74
oh and i think it's also an international school
75
so it's just another example of the foreign influence in this district
76
so there's just so many foreigners expats that come and other foreigners that are living here as well.
77
Another big influence is Korea.
78
So that was a Korean market.
79
There's a lot of Koreans living in District 2 and I'm actually happy about that because I love Korean food.
80
They have some of the best cuisine in the world in my opinion and I could eat kbbq,
81
Korean fried chicken, kimchi any day of the week.
82
Okay I think I found where I'm either Burger King or Popeyes.
83
I'm gonna go check out their menus.
84
Okay so I've ordered my meal.
85
This is my receipt and they give me a cup to fill up my drink.
86
I also got some ketchup and I'm just gonna wait for them to bring it out to me.
87
So I ended up going with Burger King.
88
I feel like a good hamburger.
89
Well, good hamburger.
90
It's not the best.
91
But the price to quality ratio is a really good really good.
92
So I'm gonna enjoy it and I'm gonna make my way to the mall.
93
I'm not that far.
94
Maybe five minutes away.
95
Okay here we go.
96
I've got my meal.
97
This is my hamburger.
98
It's a cheese hamburger.
99
These are french fries.
100
They're nice and crispy and these are cheese sticks or mozzarella sticks.
101
finished eating lunch it was pretty good the cheese sticks could have been better
102
but the burger was good
103
and the fries were really good i always liked those big chunky fries unlike those thin little strips
104
that they give you at mcdonald's but anyway that building was two stories
105
so there was a staircase to get up and down
106
and going down i realized how sore i am from yesterday so yesterday It was really fun,
107
but I sweat a lot and exercise really hard.
108
So my legs are sore, my feet are sore, and that staircase really reminded me how sore I am.
109
So hopefully with more consistent pickable practice, I'll be a lot less sore.
110
the one metro line and this is the main road a lot of traffic multiple lanes
111
that means i'm close to the mall
112
so this is the mall it's a very large rectangular building and they actually display
113
the stores outside so they have the caffalon muji and a few other stores i'm actually going to muji
114
second or third floor and I need to go buy a couple things from Muji.
115
Okay we are inside now.
116
It's a huge mall.
117
You can see Muji is all the way at the end over there.
118
So I'm gonna walk that way.
119
And I was right, it's on the second floor.
120
I'll make my way over there.
121
Okay I'm in Muji now.
122
I'm gonna get a small basket to put my stuff in.
123
So the first thing I need is toothpaste.
124
I really like this Muji toothpaste.
125
So this is the third bottle I bought and I'm going to continue to keep buying them.
126
Next is the shampoo.
127
So here's the shampoo.
128
This is the bottle I have already but since I already have the bottle I only need a refill.
129
So I'm going to buy the refill instead.
130
It's a little bit I could just refill the bottle I already have.
131
Okay so I bought my stuff.
132
I only ended up buying the shampoo and the toothpaste because I could not find the shaving gel.
133
So I'm going to go to another store for that.
134
So the store I'm planning to go to is called the Wind Mart.
135
It's a grocery store but like most grocery stores it has a pharmacy area and they'll have some shaving cream.
136
And I'm going to look for that shaving cream.
137
I'm guessing it's going to be in this men's area.
138
Oh, here we go.
139
Gillette shaving cream.
140
So the thing with the Muji shaving cream was, it was not really cream.
141
It was like gel.
142
Shaving gel.
143
and it was really nice to use
144
but i couldn't find it i guess they must have discontinued it
145
so i'm gonna have to go back to using a shaving foam
146
but anyway i'm gonna see which one is for me
147
and then i'm gonna buy that one i'm gonna go with this one it says menthol
148
so i think it's gonna be a little
149
minty on the skin the other one was lime which i don't know how that's gonna work but i don't need
150
Now I also want an air freshener.
151
So I don't know which one I'm going to choose.
152
Maybe the Hello Kitty one for all the Hello Kitty fans.
153
But honestly probably one that is just discounted.
154
Because I don't really care what it smells like.
155
so I do not want to get rained on while walking back.
156
I don't have a rain jacket or an umbrella on me.
157
So I'm booking my GrabBike and I'm gonna wait for it here outside of the mall and then head back.
158
So it is close.
159
I don't know if to wait very long.
160
Okay, let's go ahead and unpack everything that I bought today at the mall.
161
We've got my Muji bag here.
162
This is what I got at the grocery store. and an air freshener.
163
And then at Muji got a refill of shampoo and some toothpaste.
164
So let's go put this all the way in the bathroom. So here's the bathroom.
165
You can see I was really low on shampoo.
166
So I'm going to refill that right now.
167
And then my shaving cream, I'm going to put behind the mirror. in the shelf.
168
Lastly my toothpaste.
169
I'm going to put behind my old toothpaste which is almost out.
170
There's only a little bit left in here.
171
So here's my old bottle.
172
It's exactly like what I showed you at the Muji store and then here is the refill.
173
So I'm going to just rip the tip off and try to carefully refill this Shampoo perfect.
174
Let's just wait like this until it's full I want to go slow
175
because I don't want to spill any shampoo buying the refill
176
is Maybe 30 % cheaper than buying a new bottle and you're saving a bottle.
177
You're not using a brand new plastic bottle with
178
all of this shampoo out but i want to be careful not to spill it
179
while i'm doing that so i'm going to squeeze this bag flat
180
and then put the last little bit in there almost spill a little bit
181
so i've got maybe 99 of the shampoo out of here
182
and in my next shower i'm just going to use this
183
and squeeze this out and use the last little bit yeah that was today's video i hope you enjoyed it
184
things in English for you along the way.
185
If you like videos like these put it down in the comments.
186
This was a little part of district 2.
187
District 2 is my district so I want to show more of it.
188
If you have any recommendations of places I should go to in Ho Chi Minh City put that down in the comments.
189
I'll see you guys next time.
190
Peace.
