Hello there, welcome.
2
So in today's video I'm going to be teaching you English by answering some random questions whilst walking through this park.
3
Okay, question number one, where are we?
4
Well, we are in a park in Shanghai, China.
5
Yeah, it's incredibly hot right now, by the way, it's about 35 degrees, which is why I'm already sweating.
6
Yeah, so it should be an interesting one.
7
but to be honest with you I've been here for one week just in Shanghai for the first five days
8
or so I didn't really like it yeah I just felt a bit um it's quite hard to settle in
9
and you have to for example you need to download all of these apps before you come here
10
so you need an app in order to pay you need like a VPN in order to upload these videos
11
and it didn't feel that welcoming
12
a bit of time to settle in because it's been a week now and I really like it here.
13
Everyone is really nice by the way, Chinese people I genuinely, from the people I've met, have all been lovely.
14
So a bit of a struggle at first but now it's all good.
15
Okay number three: what's the first job you had?
16
Just so you know by the way you'll see some vocabulary popping up on the screen and everything
17
I was 12 years old, very young, I know, and I was a paper boy, a paper delivery boy.
18
So I did this Monday to Friday before school,
19
so I had to wake up at 5am and I'd work from 5 .30 till 7am and go to school.
20
A hard life, I know, and I would cycle around my neighbourhood in the cold and the dark and the wet delivering papers to people's doors.
21
each shift took me an hour
22
and a half at the end of each shift they would
23
pay me three pounds I was on 15 pounds a week
24
that's the equivalent of two pounds per hour that's child labor for you rather then
25
if you're wondering how that ended one morning I just slept through my alarm
26
and didn't turn up and we just we mutually agreed to terminate the employment there yeah not really especially not Shanghai.
27
Mate this is British.
28
We're in the UK right now.
29
I can't prove it but we're in the UK right now.
30
I can just smell it's the freshly cut grass has such
31
a distinctive smell it reminds me of being in school and playing football maybe sports day or something like that.
32
wasn't a factor what would you do?
33
I'd probably skate during the day, skateboard during the day and drink beer during the night.
34
What's a purchase you're glad you made?
35
These airpods, these airpods I'm 28 I bought these eight years ago when I was 20 and they're still working.
36
I remember I remember
37
in Stratford which is right where right next to where I used to live
38
and I was um working an office job
39
and it was after I think it was on a Thursday I'd just been paid
40
and I walked into the shopping center brought these to the counter they were 160 pounds
41
which felt so expensive at the time because I had per I had headphones
42
that worked perfectly well but they were the wired ones so I was very
43
them and I thought to myself you know what
44
if these last me for one year then I'm happy it's been a good purchase
45
and I've had these for eight years as I say and they're still working
46
so airpods I don't regret buying these whatsoever one thing you may not know about me is
47
that I'm really into nature and this is a great tree in particular
48
if I'm not mistaken this is uh yeah definitely this is
49
a um magnolia by undai pam pam I'm sure of it oh there's a sign there
50
yep i was right magnolia by under pamper
51
and i knew it i can just tell by looking at
52
these things it's it's a hobby of mine tree naming i call it biggest pet peeve
53
so your pet peeve is something that really annoys you
54
and my biggest pet peeve is people typing on their phones with the volume on
55
so you can just hear and they make a mistake i just find it infuriating it's so annoying it's so
56
what's a nice thing you've done for someone recently oh i'm
57
just looking for an excuse to show off aren't i um
58
so i'm gonna put my sunglasses on if you don't mind i'll cut this bit out
59
so in last week's video i went to this cafe basically just i was in japan before this
60
and there was a cafe
61
that i used to go to pretty much every day to work and there was this guy there who
62
kind of just means all right man and he was french
63
and one day we started speaking and he told me
64
that it was his birthday that day and no one had got him anything
65
so as i was leaving i nipped to the shop
66
which was right next to the cafe and in japan you can buy individual slices of cake
67
and i bought him a slice i bought him a slice
68
of cake gave it to him i said happy birthday man he
69
my friend it was nice it was actually really wholesome
70
and it made doing doing someone doing something nice for someone else makes you feel
71
so good as well right we're in some pond place it's quite cool
72
because i have no idea what this park is like i traveled for about an hour to get here
73
and i've just started recording as soon as i stepped in so we're it's new to me as well
74
Sweda Wilsonayana.
75
Yeah, definitely that.
76
Or a wango as I call it sometimes.
77
Yeah, there we are.
78
Sweda Wilsonayana wango.
79
I told you, I told you.
80
Tree naming.
81
It's my thing favorite animal because they're just so sweet and kind and gentle and nice they bow to you
82
they're lovely they're really nice favorite word elegant i like
83
that word it sounds elegant it looks elegant it's just a rather elegant word favorite soft drink coke zero 100 % favorite
84
and the strong stuff would have to be whiskey
85
and I'm the least picky person when it comes to both beer and whiskey.
86
I'll drink any beer and it will taste nice, I'll drink any whiskey and it will taste nice.
87
One thing that I think gives a park like this so much character and personality it's these random things you see everywhere.
88
So we have the statue over there, we have the massive shrooms for some reason,
89
we have the public gym equipment complete with the old working out on it.
90
It's a lot of fun and I might have to go on that seesaw.
91
There are no slides unfortunately but actually no you need two people for a seesaw.
92
Damn it.
93
I mean I can try it but it probably won't work.
94
Okay the moment of truth.
95
Is this going to work?
96
No obviously not.
97
I'm really into perfume and I used to be even more obsessed with it.
98
So I remember when I was about 15, that's when I first got really into it, and there was this department store,
99
this mini shopping centre next to my house.
100
And after school I befriended the woman who was just this like 50 year old woman working in the perfume counter.
101
And after school I would go there and I would speak to
102
and she would give me these samples and stuff like that.
103
I had no money then so I couldn't buy anything which was a shame.
104
And I used to go on my phone and there was this website,
105
I remember it was called Fragnatica or something like that and it was basically a website for researching perfumes
106
and it would tell you the different notes and how strong it was
107
and that type of thing and I'd spend so much time on that website.
108
Yeah if you're wondering I have two perfumes in rotation, Yves Saint Laurent
109
there are a few others i'd really like to try
110
but the thing is about perfume is it's quite expensive
111
and it's basically very easy not to buy
112
because you can really justify not buying it
113
because it's like oh god this is 80 pounds or something like
114
that and i don't even get all the benefits right away it's just i'll smell nice today
115
and tomorrow it's like so much money for something i don't need
116
because it's not a necessity is it it's a luxury so it's kind of hard to justify buying
117
sometimes but I think it's worth it I need to get some new stuff yeah let me know
118
if you have any recommendations for um men's perfume
119
so it has to be something that's good in the heat in the sun
120
because yeah it's a it's a scorcher now that is what I call a recycling bin so this is actually
121
this is real this is a tree this is the stump of a tree that's been carved out
122
and turned into a
123
that's kind of cool authentic Chinese bamboo anyway
124
if you're wondering about any other cool Chinese things I've seen
125
so far um this is a random one
126
so I was seeing this tourist spot
127
and I had to go to the bathroom
128
so I went to these public toilets right
129
and above each cubicle there was a neon sign an electric sign saying engaged
130
or free and that in itself was kind of interesting I've never seen
131
that before but the funny thing is they also had a timer
132
so it showed you to the second how long each person had been in
133
that cubicle so
134
when you go into the bathroom the timer goes engaged the timer starts by the second
135
so you could walk in there
136
and you might see 58 seconds 59 seconds 60 seconds one minute one second
137
or if someone was having a really bad day
138
yeah we've all been there favorite day of the week friday
139
without a shadow of a doubt fridays i love friday it's
140
actually friday today i normally post my videos on fridays that's one of the reasons why i like that day
141
so much obviously this video isn't going to be posted on friday it'll be posted on saturday sorry about
142
that and also you know it's the weekend i love weekends i love weekends and
143
more traditional monday to friday job makes sense that monday is going to be your least favorite day
144
but for me even though i work the same number of hours i can have a bit more flexibility with
145
when i do it yet i still hate mondays there's something just ingrained in humans potentially you wake up
146
and it's like ah it's a monday god another week and this just feels like a drag no matter what
147
cameras out
148
and stuff I can't even go anywhere without bloody this fame
149
thing it's a double -edged sword it's actually a really chilled area of the park with the woods there
150
and the footy there this guy's good I can tell
151
but go on go on son I'm lucky I'm lucky go on yeah it's weird
152
that I'm just filming that guy playing football oh that's cute they're having their wedding photos taken
153
almost as important as my thumbnail uh cats
154
or dogs i'm gonna have to say cats i like both i like both i just want to get
155
that out there i like both however i just i think
156
that cats are more chill easier to look after a bit
157
cuter dare i say of course henry the dog my dog the channel mascot is an exception to this rule
158
because he is very adorable but in general i'd probably prefer
159
cats the dogs yeah sorry sorry dogs all right um i'm
160
gonna flip the camera we'll have a look around look at
161
this perfectly picturesque quaint little bridge it's lovely the nature here is really nice i'm quite surprised
162
if you solved that your mind wouldn't go to china would it it looks quite english actually
163
but yeah fair play this is really nice nature and a cup of tea am i am i back in
164
takeaway on the topic of food i'd say pizza just
165
because pizza feels like a proper takeaway meal it feels like a real treat as well pizza
166
and it comes in the iconic pizza box it just feels
167
it feels special it feels special as i say before it was something that you'd only have on your birthday
168
or on a special occasion so just the thought of ordering a pizza is
169
so exciting oh we only have two more questions very sad
170
favorite sport football I love skateboarding as I kind of alluded to earlier
171
but I wouldn't really consider it a sport I guess it technically is in the same way
172
that chess is a sport
173
but football I love watching it I love playing it come
174
on Arsenal we just won the league well like a couple weeks ago
175
but it's gonna be years of domination from now I promise
176
I feel like that would either be a really hard tedious job or a really chill nice job
177
picking flowers picking the dead flowers admittedly
178
but still all right let's get to this the the final question favorite chocolate bar Snickers
179
which is the chocolate
180
and peanut one I just think that's such a good combination
181
you know honorable mentions Kit Kaps especially Kit Kat Chunkies I don't know British or Snickers, that's international, right?
182
Everyone knows Snickers.
183
Kit Kats, yeah, they definitely are, because I know they have the matcha ones in Japan.
184
Yeah.
185
As mentioned, all the vocabulary that popped up on the screen will be included in a free PDF, and the link is in the top comment.
186
Okay, I'm going to go and get an ice cream.
187

Boost Your Everyday Speaking with This Casual Clip

This video is perfect for learners aiming to sound more natural in unscripted conversations. It targets the fluency milestone of speaking "off the cuff"—sharing personal stories, opinions, and random thoughts without overplanning. The relaxed, walking-and-talking style mirrors real-life interactions, making it ideal for practicing how to connect ideas smoothly, use filler words appropriately, and keep a conversational pace.

Phrase Bank: Reusable Expressions for Real Life

  • "To be honest with you" – A great way to soften a personal opinion (e.g., "To be honest with you, I didn't like the city at first").
  • "Mutually agreed to terminate the employment" – A polite, conversational phrase for "we both decided I should stop working there."
  • "I don't regret buying these whatsoever" – Emphasizes strong satisfaction with a purchase (swap "these" for any item!).
  • "If I'm not mistaken" – A useful hedge when you're confident but not 100% sure (e.g., "If I'm not mistaken, that's a magnolia tree").

Fix Your Weak Spots: Rhythm and Intonation

The video’s casual tone helps you practice natural speech rhythm—how to stress key words, pause for effect, and avoid robotic delivery. Notice how the speaker shortens phrases like "I'd" or "it's" (contractions) to keep the flow. To master this, try the shadowing technique: play a short clip, pause, and repeat it immediately, mimicking the tone and pace. Tools like a shadowing app or shadowing site can help you track your progress. For extra practice, use "shadow speak" (repeating aloud while the video plays) to train your mouth to move like a native. Over time, this "shadowspeak" method will make your English sound less scripted and more like everyday conversation.

Pro tip: Focus on the speaker's relaxed delivery when talking about their first job ("a hard life, I know") or their airpods ("I don't regret buying these whatsoever"). These emotional moments are where natural intonation shines—perfect for shadowing practice!
