Shadowing Practice: COMO MANTER A SUA VOZ - DERRICK GREEN - Learn English Speaking with Video

Creating lesson...
1
maintaining a voice on the road was something that was terrifying
2
because in the studio was very difficult for my first time around with Sepultura
3
and I needed to go to a vocal coach
4
that a lot of people were telling me would do me some serious good.
5
So I went to this person's house, Ron, Ron Anderson.
6
He was fantastic.
7
And I really learned a lot and I wanted to demonstrate some of the things that he taught me.
8
The main thing was really being able to push the air from the diaphragm,
9
from the stomach area, and to have that be the force that really propels the music,
10
propels the sound.
11
And it was important to really keep this strong
12
and to have this work in a way where you're not destroying your throat and not destroy your voice.
13
So if you're pushing that air, it's something that you have to focus on, or at least I had to focus on in the very beginning.
14
But it became so natural and it becomes natural once you go over a song
15
and you know the areas that you need to push
16
and this was something that is very important even as a boxer there's certain breaths
17
that you're taking and you're holding in in order to not get hit a body shot
18
and to expel all your air and be passed out with singing
19
and doing heavy music especially heavy metal music it was very important to have a very strong diaphragm
20
and being able to push the air out in a way where it seems unhuman
21
so i this was a process that i had to go through over
22
and over and over again and really relaxing my throat as i did
23
and this is something that stayed with me for over 20 years now,
24
along with a few other things I'm going to demonstrate for you that have helped maintain my voice on tour,
25
off the tour.
26
And really, there has never been a time that we've had to cancel a show because of my voice, and it's been over 20 years.
27
And I think it's pretty incredible considering the music that we do is extreme.
28
Thank you.

About This Lesson

You're practicing English with "COMO MANTER A SUA VOZ - DERRICK GREEN" using the Shadowing technique — a method originally developed for professional interpreter training.

Focus on sounding like the speaker — not just repeating words. With 15–30 minutes of daily practice, you'll build real-world speaking confidence.

What is the Shadowing Technique?

Shadowing is a science-backed language learning technique originally developed for professional interpreter training and popularized by polyglot Dr. Alexander Arguelles. The method is simple but powerful: you listen to native English audio and immediately repeat it out loud — like a shadow following the speaker with just a 1–2 second delay. Unlike passive listening or grammar drills, shadowing forces your brain and mouth muscles to simultaneously process and reproduce real speech patterns. Research shows it significantly improves pronunciation accuracy, intonation, rhythm, connected speech, listening comprehension, and speaking fluency — making it one of the most effective methods for IELTS Speaking preparation and real-world English communication.
