Creating lesson...
1
Hey everybody!

Welcome to this A2 English listening practice video.
3
You can use this video to change your listening and comprehension as I speak.
4
You ready?
5
So today, I'm going to talk to you about reading.
6
For some people, this is a great topic and for other people,
7
might be a boring topic i really like reading so this is a topic that i like talking about
8
so first let's talk about the different terms of books first we have a difference between vision
9
and non-vision i'm a vision reader but i actually read some non-vision books too In this category,
10
some of the children's inclusive have books,
11
biography, political books, and many books about specific fields of study.
12
I think that nowadays, many others are starting to read more nonfiction than fiction.
13
When I ask my students what type of book they read, they usually tell me that they read books about their line of work.
14
Reading is a great way to improve your knowledge in your field of work.
15
Also, I know a lot of people that love reading self-help books because they want to improve their lives.
16
Okay, so moving on to fiction, there are many different churns.
17
One of my favorites is Mystery.
18
I love mystery novels.
19
I'd rather say that my favorite author in this churn is Agatha Christie.
20
In case you haven't heard of her, she's actually the best-selling novelist of all time.
21
More people have bought her novels than any other author's novels.
22
The reason why I like Agatha Christie's books is that she's really good at keeping the answer to the mystery a secret.
23
You have no idea what is going to happen at the end of the book, so it's always the safe find of the reader.
24
I also like reading literary fiction, which is a fiction that many students have to read during high school.
25
Usually in high school students don't like reading these books but always like them.
26
They are a little deeper and more complicated but I also find them satisfying.
27
I really enjoy reading the great American authors of the past such as Ernest Hemingway,
28
Sean Steinbach, William Falker, and others like that.
29
Ernest Hemingway in Prakadar is one of my favorite authors.
30
On the dark zone, I'm interested in Western zone.
31
I've always loved stories about the wild west like 1,000 to 1,800 in US and I also like modern westerns.
32
Some of my favorite others in this turn include Jane Grey, Lois Amour, and Carmine MacD.
33
I think that not people like westerns, but for me, they are super fun.
34
I know that many people prefer fantastic books like Harry Potter
35
and game of terms but i don't really like them i usually prefer more released novels
36
okay now let's talk about how you can read to learn a language.
37
This is a great way to improve your English, get yourself some interesting books in English.
38
In my opinion, reading is the target language in the best method of learning that language.
39
However, it's important that you choose reading material that you can understand at your level.
40
In your opinion, don't try your reading at your candid-level books.
41
Yet you sell some children's books.
42
For example, I learn in French, so I'm trying to read a little bit in French every day.
43
I just started a novel that's very easy but also really interesting for me.
44
So I learn and have fun at the same time.
45
This is the key to learn English.
46
If you have any commendation for easy English books, you can write them in the comments so other English learners can check them out.
47
Okay, that's all today.
48
Let me know in your comments what your favorite book is.
49
I will see you next time.

Why practice speaking with this video?

This A2 English listening practice video is an excellent resource for learners looking to enhance their speaking skills. As the speaker discusses the topic of reading, you can engage in shadowing technique, where you listen and repeat phrases to improve your language fluency and pronunciation. This approach not only helps you mimic the intonation and rhythm of natural speech but also boosts your confidence in engaging in conversations.

Practicing speaking while following along with this video allows you to internalize vocabulary and expressions in a meaningful context. The emphasis on a personal topic such as favorite genres and authors makes it relatable, encouraging you to form your own responses and thoughts, which is essential for effective English speaking practice.

Grammar & Expressions in Context

Throughout the video, the speaker uses several key structures that can benefit learners:

  • Present Simple Tense: The speaker frequently uses this tense to share personal preferences, such as "I really like reading" or "I enjoy reading mystery novels." This is useful for expressing likes, dislikes, and habits.
  • Comparative Structures: Notice the use of comparative phrases like "more people" and "rather say." Such structures enable you to compare different ideas or preferences effectively, enriching your speaking ability.
  • Conditional Statements: By stating, "If you have any recommendations for easy English books," the speaker models how to express hypothetical situations, crucial for discussing possibilities in conversations.

Common Pronunciation Traps

As with any English audio material, there are certain words and sounds that may be challenging to pronounce. In this video, some tricky words include:

  • Biography & Nonfiction: Pay attention to the stress on syllables in these words. Proper pronunciation will help when discussing educational texts.
  • Agatha Christie: Ensure you pronounce the author's name correctly, emphasizing both the first and last names clearly, as knowing names in literature is vital for cultural discussions.
  • Mystery: This word often trips up learners; make sure to articulate the 'myst-' clearly to avoid confusion with similar-sounding words.

By focusing on these pronunciation elements and utilizing the shadow speech practice while listening, you can significantly enhance your clarity and confidence in English speaking, essential for achieving high scores in IELTS speaking practice.

What is the Shadowing Technique?

Shadowing is a science-backed language learning technique originally developed for professional interpreter training and popularized by polyglot Dr. Alexander Arguelles. The method is simple but powerful: you listen to native English audio and immediately repeat it out loud — like a shadow following the speaker with just a 1–2 second delay. Unlike passive listening or grammar drills, shadowing forces your brain and mouth muscles to simultaneously process and reproduce real speech patterns. Research shows it significantly improves pronunciation accuracy, intonation, rhythm, connected speech, listening comprehension, and speaking fluency — making it one of the most effective methods for IELTS Speaking preparation and real-world English communication.
