1
I love how her second chances are kind of playing out this season.
2
I'm curious how you feel it's going for her. For Amy.
3
Oh Amy.
4
So season two really picks up just a couple of days
5
after the after where we left off at the season finale in season one.
6
So Amy has, you know, tried so hard to become a better person in season one.
7
She wants to be, you know,
8
the person that she remembers herself to be and that her friends and loved ones sort of approve of.
9
But as things become more and more stressful towards the end of season one,
10
she begins to just react without a lot of thought.
11
And she gets herself into some trouble.
12
So by the time we see Amy again at the beginning of season two, she's really dug herself into a few holes.
13
and her relationship to her two kind of main people, her main support system with Jake and Gina, have really been stressed.
14
Those people are a little bit over her at the moment.
15
And you know, Michael is, the wife is having a baby,
16
you know, so she's very alone in some ways at the beginning of season two.
17
And that's where we kind of start and then there's some new storylines that come in that give her opportunities for growth.
18
So there's a new character
19
that Felicity Huffman plays named Dr. Joan Ridley who was Amy's teacher
20
and mentor and comes and takes on the role of chief of internal medicine.
21
So for Amy this is this is like the best of all situations really
22
so she thinks because she really remembers this woman from eight years ago who you know was a tough,
23
challenging, great teacher and doctor who championed Amy.
24
And, you know, so we will find out more about that as we go along.
25
Amy also begins to be,
26
to have these tiny little flashes of memory that really push her to be,
27
to just a conviction that she really needs to get her memory back
28
if she wants to have an integrated self, you know.
29
And she says, I think she says in one of the early episodes, you know, I'm torn, I'm split between,
30
you know, this woman who was married to the love of her life
31
and a mother and all of these things and with a man who I don't even remember meeting.
32
So Amy very much wants to be able to kind of live in the present.
33
Without her memory, she feels like she can't do that.
34
So as these tiny little bits start to be revealed to her, she's quite obsessive about getting them back.

We start to see a little bit where Amy got
44
some of her ways of behaving as a doctor and as a leader.
45
Maybe, you know, she's tough.
46
Dr. Joan Ridley is a very tough character who, you know, really doesn't suffer fools, but also is really cool.

48
and her work as a physician is the focus of her life.

50
So on the one hand, it's quite wonderful for Amy to have somebody around who is,
51
you know, who doesn't think she was a complete jerk, you know, before the accident,
52
who thinks she was a great doctor who did what she had to do to get through a really difficult situation.
53
I think there's a lot of relief in that for Amy.
54
Everyone else in Amy's life seems to think that she was quite difficult,
55
except for Jake, who fell in love with that difficult woman and was sort of given access to,
56
I think, a more private and vulnerable part of the Amy that, you know, there's all these different Amys.
57
Essentially, they're all the same person.

is we really get to explore all these different aspects of this one woman's psyche.

Gramática e expressões no contexto

  • "I'm torn between...": Expressão usada para mostrar conflito interno ("estou dividido entre..."). Útil em discussões pessoais ou decisões difíceis.
  • "She does all kinds of treatments": A estrutura "all kinds of" + substantivo é uma maneira informal de dizer "vários tipos de". Fácil de integrar em conversas cotidianas.

Armadilhas de pronúncia comuns

No vídeo, alguns termos podem ser desafiadores. Veja como evitá-las com o shadow speak:

  • "Conviction" (convicção): A pronúncia correta é /kənˈvɪk.ʃən/, evite acentuar a primeira sílaba ("con-VIC-tion" está errado).
  • "Obsessive" (obssessivo): A sílaba tônica é a segunda: /əbˈses.ɪv/.
