Is dating in Southeast Asia actually easier or does it just come with different problems?

After five years here, I have had very different experiences in Bali, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam.

In this video, I will share what dating here has actually been like, what I have learned along the way

and everything you need to know from what to expect to how to find a good relationship here.

So yeah, when I actually moved here five years ago, I was 25 years old and I wasn't actually expecting to like the Asians.

I thought I just come here because I really love the nature and everything.

I love the lifestyle in Bali and Southeast Asia, just living in tropical places while working online.

That was the dream.

And I kind of thought that I would just like date

and hopefully find a girlfriend from like Australia or something like that.

So that was the starting point.

But pretty quickly when I moved to Bali, I realized that, oh, actually there's a lot of lot of local girls

that are super nice

and sweet like really like a wife material like good suitable

for long -term relationship like I was really surprised for the options

that I had here when it comes to dating

and finding a life partner from the locals not from the actual foreigners

and tourists and I also quickly saw

that dating foreigners it wasn't really the best dating market in my opinion

and also people usually come and go so it would be more difficult if you actually want to live here.

But with the locals I realized there's all benefits like they definitely want to be here long term, they have family here, they know the culture.

So by being with them you learn about the culture, the language and you integrate way faster and way better.

And when I wanted to travel in Southeast Asia mainly anyway the visa situation for them is super simple.

It's completely different if you want to take them to Europe or South America or something like that.

But when you just want to be in Southeast Asia it's actually pretty good.

But yeah now let's go one by one over the main countries in Southeast Asia, what has been my experience in them.

And let's start with the Philippines.

So yeah, Philippines is kind of famous for like, especially older like

Americans and something like this going there to find a wife.

And yeah, it is a big culture for dating between locals and foreigners in the Philippines.

And also the big benefit of Philippines is of course the language.

Most people there speak English and a lot of them speak very good English.

So yeah, it's a big difference compared to the other countries here.

Because even in the Philippines,

you notice quickly that like just ordering like food online or something like the Grab driver actually knows how to speak English,

like you can communicate well and like make some jokes with them.

So that's a huge difference.

And what I also noticed in Philippines every time I went, people there are just like super friendly and outgoing.

So if you are an extrovert, you like to go to parties and have like social gatherings all the time,

the dating can be also amazing because you get integrated to

that culture you hang out with your partner's friends and family

and do all kind of things all the time

so it can be amazing

but for someone like me I'm more like introverted I'm looking for something more like health focused

and more chill peaceful I guess which you can of course find in every country

but in the Philippines

it's more like let's go party let's drink a little bit more like bad habits I found always in the Philippines.

Not everyone, of course, but it's definitely more catered towards that.

Eating also quite unhealthy food and this kind of thing, not really focus on health.

And also Philippines itself, it's not really the most comfortable

and convenient place to stay as a digital nomad or someone who works online.

So that's also one issue of like, of course, if you're dating a local, you probably want to live where they are from.

It's just easier long term.

And also usually to find your partner you need to spend a little bit more extended period of time somewhere

that has a little bit more bigger dating market let's say like

Manila or Cebu in the Philippines where I don't necessarily want to live myself especially

when it's not like the only focus in my life to find a partner.

So those are some of the negatives of Philippines

but also there's a lot of people of course even my community I hear often

that guys say that they really love dating in the Philippines and just loved the people there.

So yeah, it is an amazing place for that.

And next is Vietnam.

So Vietnam has been popping up a lot because of the cheap cost of living and amazing cities like Danang.

And it's a great place to stay for a few months.

But again, for yearly, it's not the best climate and everything.

But also with the dating, it's one of the biggest problems of Vietnam and Danang, let's say.

But I hear from other people also and my own experience when I was there as a single guy for two months,

a few years ago, it was quite difficult to be honest like the English is just not

that good in Vietnam in general even with the younger people most people don't really speak English

and maybe because of that there's some other reasons also the dating culture between foreigners

and locals is pretty weak in Vietnam it's not really like in the Philippines it's very common and they kind of

all know about that part of life that locals dating with foreigners

but in Vietnam it's not really a thing like really you rarely see mixed couples

but of course some still do

and I have seen a couple of times there's like a local having a date with a foreigner

but yeah it's more rare

and I had some experience myself like just on dating apps like talking a little bit with someone

and they seem interested and then I ask for a date

and then they say like oh sorry I cannot

because I don't speak English and I'm like

so what's the point of like talking

and stuff about yeah it is a bit tough like I never really found any good dates in Vietnam.

So yeah it's not the best place to date

but also it's not impossible especially if you would know some Vietnamese it would of course help a lot.

Even if you're lucky and your partner speaks perfect English their parents

and family probably won't

and being able to say at least a couple of things

in their language can really help to break the ice and earn you some bonus points from the family.

And next is Thailand, which is very famous for dating.

And I don't really know why it's so famous and people always so hyped about it, because for me, it hasn't really been the best.

I've been to Thailand so many times, an extended period of time, but I don't really like the dating there.

Like one problem is the English.

So yeah, again, it's not really, they don't really speak the best English in general.

You can definitely find some people who speak good English in the bigger cities especially like

There's a lot of international schools and this kind of thing

but it's just a general the level of English is quite low

and even for the ones who speak English the accent can be still quite strong

which is not really my favorite to be honest.

I hear from some people they don't really mind it some people even like it but it's not really my favorite.

But the good thing is again that the dating culture of foreigners

and locals together is very strong it's famous for

that for a long time it's very common for the locals to date foreigners

so it's not like something they don't want to do

or they're not open to so that's good but then at the same time Thailand especially in places like

you know how it is like there's a lot of different kind of work being done there

so it can make the dating market a bit messy

so yeah I don't know not really my favorite in general even in the islands like Phuket

it can be a bit messy you don't really know like is this someone who's looking for something serious

or is it someone who's just you know so that's not the best

that are smaller the dating market can be quite unexistent like there's not really much going on

so it can be a bit hard if you want to stay there to even find anyone to date.

Bangkok or Chiang Mai, I have heard that it can be really good there, especially in Bangkok.

Of course, it's a huge mecha city, so there's a lot of options to choose from.

Again, from my community talking with people, I heard many times that, yeah, it can be very good just walking around the parks and,

like, you always come across some people and it can be quite exciting.

But not generally my favorite place to find a partner.

Thai women and Thai girls are just, like, super sweet and soft and caring and this kind of thing.

So yeah, it's definitely something to try out, I guess.

But the next country, Indonesia, where I am right now and my favorite place to live, Bali especially.

To be honest, it has been my favorite so far to find actual good relationships.

Just the fact that it's quite a traditional culture here when it comes to dating.

And it's very common again between foreigners and locals to date, so a lot of them kind of dreaming about being with the foreigner

while being still like very sweet and caring and good woman.

So yeah, especially in Bali, there's a lot of people who come here from the other islands like

Java who want to be a little bit more open -minded and more like westernized,

a little bit while still being quite traditional mindset when it comes to relationship and life and everything.

And now I will talk about more of the things that I have learned and things you need to know.

So first of all, when it comes to finding the partners,

of course, it's possible to meet them in the cafes or on the beach or anything like that.

Back in the day, many years ago when I was single, I was trying to do this more often too.

When I come across someone who seems nice on the beach or in the restaurant, something like that, I talk to them.

But for me, the experience was that they always had a boyfriend.

So it was kind of unmotivating.

but yeah nothing came out of it yeah the thing about the balinese especially like usually

But that's also something that you just need to find the ones that you actually connect and have similar mindset.

So it's not that everyone is like this.

And also there's some complaints.

People say that they don't really connect with the locals because the humor is so different.

Or they don't really understand each other's humor and this kind of thing.

In my experience, yeah, it can definitely happen here as anywhere else maybe more often here

but my experience has been still that you can definitely find the ones

that you still have all those different signs of the relationship here

but it makes sense to have a lot of intention

and focus on this part of the relationship from the beginning to pay attention like how is her mindset and

don't know boring difficult whatever like it just doesn't really match

that there are definitely like a lot of stories about girls

who are kind of bad like going out a lot like all the time meeting new guys all the time

and kind of taking advantage of guys as much as they can like getting free food

and free place to stay even these kind of people who

date like multiple foreigners at the same time who are in their own countries now after the trip

and sending money to her and think that they're the only boyfriend she has

but actually she has like five different boyfriend from different countries at the same time

it happens there are people like this yeah

it can be a thing in any of these countries in southeast asia

that there are some people who are just looking for guys for money

It is what it is, but in my experience, like, you also come across so many people who are not like this at all.

There's one someone who take care of them, who are, like, loving to them, who they really love and want to take care of also,

But, yeah, just be careful with the bad ones.
