1
All right, so today I'm in the middle of building my next online program
2
and it is one of my most favorite and least favorite things to do in the entire world.
3
Why would that not focus on my face?
4
Focus on me.
5
Focus.
6
Focus.
7
Just for some quick context, if you're new here, I think I've made about 10 online courses over the last decade, selling through YouTube and nothing but YouTube.
8
Some of them have made about $300.
9
Others have made $400,000.
10
And I've got a spidey scent, really good feeling about this course that I'm making right now.
11
And I think it's going to help the most people I've ever helped.
12
We will see.
13
But I'm getting a little bit anxious already because there is so much to do.
14
I don't want to spend the whole day making this video.
15
I actually need to spend the whole day making that course.
16
And so first things first, time to lock in.
17
Making a new program is one of the most mentally intensive projects.
18
It's almost like creating 30 YouTube videos at once and making them all cohesive in a series.
19
I'll be honest, I always put it off.
20
I always make it harder for myself than it needs to be
21
because I just can't seem to get myself in gear to do something two months in advance.
22
I have to have like a pretty impending deadline to really get myself to do it.
23
But something that always helps me get into flow state is
24
is acknowledging that the first 15 minutes of doing a hard task is gonna be hard.
25
Just setting a timer and pushing through those 15 minutes and keeping your mind on task.
26
Within 15, 20 minutes, it's gonna start feeling great.
27
I'm gonna get into flow state.
28
And it's one of the most rewarding feelings ever, being in this flow state for two or three hours and getting a shitload of work done.
29
All right, sweet.
30
That went well.
31
The foundations part of the program is taking shape.
32
I'm pumped.
33
One game-changing thing that this course is going to revolve around is what I'm calling video recipes.
34
So when I did my 30-day challenge, the thing that I found most helpful was having different video formats.
35
Before that, my formats basically just consisted of try to make a viral video, which took me like two weeks and was disappointing most of the time.
36
When I switched to making daily videos or at least three times a week videos, I was forced to come up with different video formats.
37
I couldn't just make your standard infotainment five tips videos every day.
38
So instead, I started integrating formats like Q&As, one take videos where I'd share a mindset shifter, an epiphany, system videos, and then your standard tip listicle videos.
39
And really knowing how to execute those formats
40
and figuring out the perfect formats for your channel is the secret behind being able to make three plus videos a week.
41
So I'm planning out how to best communicate all of these ideas right now
42
and give you specific video recipes that you can customize to fit your channel perfectly.
43
I'm sorry.
44
I'm sorry.
45
All right,
46
this is a pretty random location.
47
I wanted to finish this video outside, take the last half an hour of my day to get some nature in my eyeballs.
48
like after working planning all day i'm going to be looking after my daughter spending some time my beautiful family
49
and i find that when i when i cut off work in my office
50
and i've just been like staring at the screen all day
51
and then go downstairs i'm a bit of a zombie and
52
so when i can i'll try
53
and make the most of these kind of situations film some stuff outside
54
or just get outside go for a walk come home a
55
new man oh come home refreshed aren't we all just trying to balance this digital life you know.
56
So the theme of this video is do you need to be an expert to make online courses and coach people online?
57
Let me tell you a little story, story time.
58
Throughout my teenage years I was making films with my friends, brothers, cousins.
59
They were like stupid horror films, action films, funny films.
60
It was like the most fun I've ever had.
61
So by the time I was 18, 19 I'd been making films for like four or five years and just purely having fun with it.
62
No sort of commercial reasons.
63
Could you have called me an expert by the time I was 18 or 19?
64
I mean if you're comparing
65
that 19 year old against actual filmmakers in Hollywood making tv shows I was still basically considered zero experience.
66
But then I fell in love with traveling.
67
When I was traveling the world I decided why not capture my adventures use some of my filmmaking skills
68
and make some dope travel videos.
69
It was kind of popping off on social media at the time
70
so I wanted to hop on that trend and I did.
71
And along my travels and adventures I met a guy called Sander.
72
He's this like Dutch guy And he said, hey, bro, why don't you just make courses about your travel videos?
73
And I was like, courses, but I don't really even know what I'm doing.
74
It's like, yeah, bro, there'd be so many people who would never made a video before.
75
And so if you can help them make videos like you do now, you can make money from that.
76
And I'm very grateful that I was naive enough to just believe him and be like
77
okay so I made my first ever travel video course I priced it at seven dollars
78
and I'm quite an ambitious person in everything I do apparently
79
and so I I kind of thought
80
that this course was going to make me rich
81
or something the seven dollar course and
82
when I launched it I was super disappointed
83
that only 10 people had bought the course when I launched on that first day
84
I thought it was a big failure
85
and I went to another friend who I was lucky enough to have at the time and I was like, oh man, I just, I only sold 10 of this course.
86
He's like, wait a minute, 10 people, random people online paid you $7 for a course you just made.
87
And I was like, yeah.
88
And he's like, bro, that's incredible.
89
That means you've got a business.
90
You have proof of product.
91
Random people want your stuff.
92
Now it's time to grow.
93
And that was the start of my whole online course journey.
94
Was I an expert when I was 21 selling that course?
95
Fuck no. But could I help people?
96
Was there thousands, if not millions of people who had never touched a camera before,
97
who wanted to capture their travels and wanted to make cool adventure videos of their life so they could remember them?
98
Well, yeah.
99
And were my videos at the time good enough to get those people inspired to be like, yeah, I want to make videos just like that?
100
Yeah, they definitely were.
101
And that is all you need to make an online course and start making a living online.
102
You need to be good enough at something so that other people are going to look at you and be like, yeah, I want that person to help me.
103
You do not need a degree.
104
You do not need 20 years of experience in the field.
105
You do not need to be the best in the industry.
106
And I wanted to leave you with this.
107
There are two sort of generally considered ways to make content.
108
One is to make expert content.
109
You are already the expert in your teaching stuff.
110
The other way is to document.
111
You're not the expert yet.
112
So you document your journey whilst you get good at something.
113
And so by the time you actually are an expert and you want to launch a course, offer a coaching, you've already built an audience.
114
So either way, whether you consider yourself somebody who has a skill set who people want to pay for or not, there is absolutely nothing holding you back from starting making content right now.
115
By the way, if you want to be one of the first into the three-hour YouTube system, which is the course I've been making throughout this video, then you can join the waitlist in the description below.
116
That was a good day's work and I'll see you very soon.
117
Ciao.
