1
Are you overwhelmed?
2
Because I'm overwhelmed.
3
And when I get overwhelmed, text messages go unanswered.
4
My space turns into a disaster and I feel like I'm drowning in an unending list of to-dos.
5
And then I get paralyzed into doing nothing, which makes everything worse because I'm not taking actions that would actually help me not feel overwhelmed.
6
That's how I've been feeling lately, so today we're going to go over five realistic tips to help you get your life together.
7
To help me get my life together.
8
We're going to get our lives together, together.
9
The first step in getting your life together is to write it all out.
10
So that's what I'm going to do.
11
I'm going to open my iPad, open Notability, and we are going to just write down every little thing that is stressing me out.
12
We're going to be okay.
13
Now that you have a really long list of all the things that are overwhelming you, the next thing you're going to do is categorize based on how quickly those things can be completed.
14
We are going to chase some easy wins.
15
There's this series on TikTok called How Long Does It Actually Take, where this girl goes and sees how long the things that she's been putting off actually take.
16
They often take way less time than she actually thinks they will.
17
And just like that, one of our tasks is complete.
18
I just listed something on Facebook Marketplace.
19
This jewelry thing that I don't need anymore.
20
On to the next.
21
I've been putting that off for a year.
22
Cloths have not been washed since we moved into this place, so that's definitely on the list.
23
Let's go return some Amazon packages.
24
This is take a meeting way too long to do.
25
I'm so glad that I'm finally doing this.
26
Just got like $200 back in my pocket.
27
We love that.
28
And that's how a lot of these unclosed loops feel.
29
There are these things that just eat at you because you need to get them done.
30
If you actually go and do it, it's going to be a lot quicker of a process than you thought.
31
One of the things that's been stressing me out the most, like white-fisted stressed out, is this bathroom.
32
It is so chaotic and unorganized and it's been that way since I moved in because I haven't actually put anything away.
33
I haven't put anything away that belongs in the bathroom in the place that it's going to be.
34
I did go to Target and buy a bunch of bins and I actually have put them under my sink.
35
I just haven't put anything in them so I just need to do it.
36
So let's do it.
37
And I also need to get a laundry basket
38
because I just need to put a laundry basket where I've been throwing all of my clothes.
39
We're officially committing to this organizational setup.
40
Let's get off all this stupid stuff. So sad to say.
41
Oh no. I'm not trying to spend five years doing this, so I'm gonna blow dry these and hopefully they come out easier.
42
Much better.
43
All the tags are off, and now we're going to arrange.
44
Let's do it.
45
For this drawer specifically, I actually have some cord organizers that are coming in the mail today.
46
So I might come back and record these later, but getting them in here is a big win.
47
Oh, I forgot about...
48
I forgot about these.
49
I got this too.
50
So I can actually organize inside of the drawers as well.
51
I of course will have all of these products that I'm using to organize, link down below, because I know we could all use a bathroom organization session.
52
There are so many things that can make us feel stressed and overwhelmed.
53
For me, those things usually look like work, dating and relationships, health issues.
54
Why is this so hard for me?
55
Triathlon training, and the list goes on.
56
I also often struggle because there are so many things that I want to do, so many good intentions that I have, but sometimes I get so stressed out that I don't take action,
57
and then I'm not getting the things done that I need to, and I'm also not doing those good things that I want to be doing and it makes me feel bad about myself.
58
For you it might be something different.
59
Maybe your stress comes from a relationship within your family or a friend or a significant other.
60
Maybe it's also work or something that goes even deeper.
61
And that's why I'm grateful BetterHelp is sponsoring today's video
62
because talking to someone in therapy could be the tool you
63
need to help you work through any feelings of anxiousness or overwhelm.
64
BetterHelp makes therapy more accessible by connecting you with a licensed therapist online so you can talk through whatever's on your mind.
65
If you want to give therapy a try, you can click the link in my description
66
or go to betterhelp.com slash Riley Real and get 10% off your first month of therapy.
67
Tip number three is stop consuming and start doing.
68
It is so easy to turn to distractions like social media,
69
a show, or just anything other than the things that you actually need to be doing whenever you're stressed out and overwhelmed.
70
And I definitely feel that.
71
It's like, what are all the things other than the thing
72
that i actually need to do
73
that i could get done just to put off doing the thing
74
that i really need to or just scrolling and numbing out
75
so that you don't have to feel the overwhelming feeling of everything around you all those feelings are valid
76
but i also think when you stop consuming
77
and even set barriers for yourself at the beginning of this process i actually bricked my phone
78
so i couldn't get into any of the distracting apps that often take me away from what I need to be doing.
79
That is a helpful resource and tool to keep you on track for what you actually need to get done.
80
We've made some really good progress on the bathroom
81
and I'm just going to keep working my way out and hopefully get this entryway cleared out.
82
I was on a run and found these picture frames that I really liked, but I didn't get them and I've been thinking about them ever since.
83
So I'm coming back to the shop and hopefully they're still there because I would love to have them in my office.
84
Secured.
85
They weren't exactly the ones that I had looked at before, but they were basically the same.
86
So I got two of them.
87
Plus a swan for my room.
88
Let's go home.
89
While I'm in the car, I'm going to respond to a message that somebody texted me
90
that I've been putting off responding to because it takes a lot of thought.
91
I'm just going to record like a voice memo and send it to it.
92
Next up, we're going to tackle this closet.
93
I need to put all of these things in here and organized.
94
It bends up top a little bit better.
95
Okay, where are my supplies?
96
I'm proud of myself.
97
I think this turned out so well.
98
Guys, we have been checking stuff off.
99
I've been making a list and keeping track of my tasks today in Notability.
100
I've been using Notability since I was in college to take notes and just do projects on my iPad.
101
And if you're interested, I always have a link in the description for Notability Pro.
102
And you can use my code RileyNB and it gets you 25% off of the pro feature.
103
I'm about to transition from doing all of the tasks that I've been doing today into some computer work, which makes up the majority of what I'm doing throughout the week.
104
And also where a lot of stress comes from, I am very busy with work projects, with editing, with filming.
105
I do everything myself.
106
I'm in the process of getting an editor, which is another thing that I should add to my to-do list of things.
107
I have to like do stuff with that.
108
Anyway, yeah I do everything myself so it's a lot of work
109
and I'm so grateful because I've been blessed with
110
so many opportunities from this job and I'm just so grateful
111
that it can be like my full-time job I'm
112
so grateful I've realized
113
that it's really hard for me to say no to things
114
it's really hard for me to say no to opportunities even
115
when I know it's gonna really stress me out to like
116
get it done in the time frame needed I'm just like yeah let's do it let's do it you know
117
and obviously I have boundaries with what I say yes and no to, but I'll say yes because I see it as almost like a challenge.
118
I want to be able to create a really cool video and integrate that product or that thing into it.
119
I'm realizing that it's taken away from the rest of my life.
120
Like, I feel like I'm in a constant state of just like stress
121
and feeling like I'm catching up instead of feeling like I can handle what's in front of me.
122
In some ways, I think we all feel that way all the time, but I would love to get to a place that's more balanced.
123
And so along with that comes tip number four, which is set boundaries for yourself and with others.
124
Because whether it's with work or whether it's with relationships, people requiring things of you that goes beyond what you can give,
125
I think it's important to be self-aware about what those lines need to be for you.
126
And it's okay if it takes some time to figure it out.
127
I'm definitely in that process of like figuring out exactly what
128
that is for me and what just like yeah just what it is for me
129
so I felt like last year was my building year like building everything from the ground up
130
and this year is my figuring it out year like getting in the groove year learning
131
so much year and I'm grateful for that
132
but I'm also yeah I'm also just it's it's stressful it's stressful to try
133
and navigate it all and know what the right things to say yes
134
and no to are and the opportunities and how to balance relationships
135
and friendships and dating and triathlon training and work
136
and all the things and I'm aware that this is how it will be for the rest of my life.
137
There's always going to be so many things whether I'm a mom
138
or I'm a wife or I'm a business owner
139
or I'm training for something or life is crazy
140
because of external factors
141
or whatever it is like at every stage of my life
142
there will be moments where I feel like I can't do it all.
143
I think it's good when you're feeling that way to take a step back
144
and say what can I let go of here?
145
What can I stop putting so much into
146
that will allow me to put more into the other things
147
that matter to me more or that are important to me
148
and making sure I don't let those things fall by the wayside.
149
And that's kind of what I'm in the process of figuring out right now with work but we'll get there.
150
We will get there.
151
You and I, together, we will get there.
152
This is the longest I've ever been bricked before.
153
Over eight and a half hours.
154
But I do need to do some things that require me to unbrick.
155
But hey, that's pretty dang good.
156
Most of the time when I do projects like I've been doing today, I'll listen to something.
157
But today, I haven't listened to anything, which has honestly been really good for me, I think.
158
But that being said, but now I'm going to listen to something because I need a little extra motivation to keep going.
159
Because it is like 5.20 and I'm getting tired, but there are still some things that I want to do.
160
So I'm going to listen to a podcast or an audiobook or something while I get more stuff done.
161
And last but not least, we've got tip number five, which is to forget yourself.
162
Seems counterintuitive, but oftentimes when you're feeling stressed and overwhelmed about your life and yourself and everything that you have to do,
163
sometimes the best thing that you can do is look outside of yourself.
164
Serve someone else.
165
I think service is a great way to help others, but also put your life into perspective.
166
Put your blessings into perspective and remember what life is about.
167
It's about connecting with others.
168
It's about growing and becoming and that process is going to come with ebbs and flows.
169
It's going to come with challenges and wins and joy
170
and pain and so many other emotions and feelings over the course of your lifetime.
171
So just give yourself some grace as you feel what you need to feel.
172
And I can promise from personal experience as shown in this video, taking action really does help.
173
Making a to-do list, going for the small wins, cutting out distractions, setting boundaries, and giving yourself grace and forgetting yourself
174
if you implement all those things you're gonna feel less stressed you're gonna feel less overwhelmed
175
and i hope that if you're feeling those things
176
that you can give it a try
177
because i know it definitely helped me thank you
178
so much for watching this video
179
and for being here it's gonna be okay you've got this i love you guys
180
and i will see you in my next video bye
