Thật tuyệt vời khi được có mặt ở đây hôm nay.
6
It's great to see you, Paul.
7
How are you?
8
I am doing very well, thank you.
9
I have my coffee and I am ready.
10
And you, Emily?
11
I am great.
12
I am very excited about our topic today.
13
Oh?
14
A new topic?
15
What is it?
16
Today, we are talking about something very important.
17
We are talking about how we think.
18
How we think?
19
You mean our ideas in our head?
20
Yes, exactly.
21
There is a big word for this.
22
Mindset.
23
Mindset.
24
Hmm, that sounds big.
25
It sounds big, but the idea is very simple.
26
Your mindset is just your feelings and ideas about something.
27
Ah, okay.
28
Like, English is hard.
29
Is that a mindset?
30
Yes, that is a perfect example.
31
Or, English is fun.
32
That is also a mindset.
33
I see.
34
So today we are talking about good thinking for learning English.
35
Yes.
36
How to change your thinking.
37
To change your life.
38
It's very powerful.
39
Wow.
40
I am ready.
41
This sounds very useful.
42
Me too.
43
But wait, Paul.
44
Before we start our big topic.
45
Ah, yes.
46
Our small request.
47
Yes, everyone listening.
48

53
If you have a friend who is learning English, maybe they will like our chat.
54
Yes, thank you so much.
55
Your support is wonderful.
56
Okay.
57
So, Paul, mindset, how we think.
58
Yes.
59
You said English is hard is a mindset.
60
Yes.
61
Let's call this the stuck mindset.
62
Stuck.
63
What does that mean?
64
Stuck is when you cannot move.
65
You are in one place.
66
Ah, yes, I feel stuck sometimes.
67
I feel my English is not getting better.
68
Yes, that is the feeling.
69
The stuck mindset says, I am bad at this, or I will never learn.
70
Oh, yes, those are sad thoughts.
71
They are.
72
And when you think those thoughts, you want to… Stop.
73
Exactly.
74
You want to stop learning.
75
You feel bad.
76
So, this stuck mindset is not good.
77
No. But there is another mindset.
78
A better one?
79
Yes, a much better one.
80
We can call it the growing mindset.
81
A growing mindset?
82
Like a plant?
83
A plant grows?
84
Yes, that is a perfect picture, Paul.
85
A plant starts small and it grows bigger every day.
86
Okay, I like this.
87
A growing mindset.
88
What does it say?
89
The stuck mindset says, I am bad at this.
90
And the growing mindset?
91
The growing mindset says, I am learning this.
92
Ah, I am bad versus I am learning.
93
Yes, it feels different, right?
94
Very different.
95
I am bad feels finished.
96
But I am learning feels hopeful.
97
Hopeful.
98
What a great word.
99
Yes, the growing mindset says this is new for me.
100
This is hard, but I can try.
101
Yes, you are a great student, Paul.
102
I am trying.
103
So the first step is to see our thoughts.
104
Yes.
105
Are your thoughts stuck?
106
Or are they growing?
107
Okay.
108
But Emily, how do I change my thoughts?
109
If I feel I am bad, how do I stop that?
110
That is the big question.
111
I have a magic word for you.
112
A magic word?
113
I love magic.
114
It is a very small word.
115
The word is yet. Yet.
116
Y -E -T.
117
Yes, yet.
118
Hmm.
119
I know that word.
120
It means, like, not now, but maybe later.
121
Exactly.
122
It means, for now.
123
It is a word of hope.
124
Okay.
125
So how do I use this magic word?
126
Okay.
127
Let's take a stuck thought.
128
For example, I do not understand.
129
Oh, yes.
130
I think that in every English movie.
131
I do not understand.
132
Me too.
133
Now add the magic word at the end.
134
I do not understand yet.
135
Yes.
136
How does that feel?
137
Wow.
138
That feels so different.
139
Right?
140
I do not understand means I am lost.
141
Stop the movie.
142
Yes.
143
But I do not understand yet means I just need more time.
144
Maybe tomorrow I will understand.
145
Yes.
146
It means you are on the journey.
147
You are growing.
148
Okay.
149
Let's try another one.
150
Okay.
151
How about, I cannot speak English fluently.
152
Oh, that is a big one.
153
Okay.
154
I cannot speak English fluently yet.
155
Yes.
156
Perfect.
157
This is fun.
158
It's true.
159
I am learning.
160
I am not fluent yet.
161
But you will be, or you will be better.
162
The yet opens the door for the future.
163
It takes the sad feeling away.
164
It does.
165
It changes a stuck thought into a growing thought.
166
This is a great tip, Emily.
167
The magic word yet.
168
I will remember that.
169
Good.
170
Okay, so that is tip number one.
171
Now, let's talk about something else.
172
What?
173
Let's talk about mistakes.
174
Ugh, no. Mistakes.
175
I hate mistakes.
176
I know.
177
Everyone hates mistakes.
178
When you make a mistake, how do you feel?
179
I feel stupid.
180
I feel shy.
181
I feel bad.
182
Yes, me too.
183
We all feel that.
184
This is the stuck mindset again.
185
Oh.
186
So what does the growing mindset think about mistakes?
187
The growing mindset loves mistakes.
188
What?
189
Loves mistakes?
190
Emily, no. That is crazy.
191
Mistakes are bad.
192
No. Listen.
193
Listen.
194
Think about a small child.
195
A baby.
196
Okay, a baby.
197
Think about a baby learning to walk.
198
Oh, yes.
199
My little cousin, Mia.
200
She's one year old.
201
She is learning to walk now.
202
Is she good at it?
203
Does she walk perfectly?
204
No. She is very bad at it.
205
She stands up and boom, she falls down.
206
Yes, she falls all the time.
207
All the time.
208
Now, Paul, when Mia falls down, what do you say to her?
209
Oh, we laugh and we say, Good job, Mia.
210
Try again.
211
You can do it.
212
Exactly.
213
Do you say, Mia, you are stupid.
214
You are bad at walking.
215
Stop trying.
216
Oh, no, never.
217
That is terrible. Of course.
218
Because why did she fall?
219
Because she is learning.
220
Yes.
221
The fall is part of learning.
222
The mistake is how she learns.
223
Ah, I see.
224
When she falls, her brain learns, Oh, okay, that did not work.
225
I must try a different way.
226
Yes, yes, yes.
227
You got it.
228
So, learning English is like learning to walk.
229
It is exactly the same.
230
When you make a mistake in English… I am not stupid.
231
No!
232
You are learning.
233
I am… Falling?
234
Yes, you are falling.
235
And it is okay.
236
A mistake is not bad.
237
A mistake is just information.
238
Information?
239
Yes.
240
Your brain says, oh, that word was not right.
241
Okay, I will try a new word.
242
Good job, Paul.
243
Try again.
244
Yes, you must be a good friend to yourself.
245
When you make a mistake, say, It's okay.
246
I am learning.
247
I am like baby Mia.
248
I like that so much.
249
Mistakes are our friends.
250
Yes.
251
They show us that we are trying.
252
And trying is the most important part.
253
Wow.
254
Okay.
255
My mindset is changing.
256
Good.
257
So, I have the magic word, yet, and mistakes are my friends.
258
But Emily, it is still a lot of work.
259
Learning English is a big, big, big job.
260
It is.
261
It is like a very tall mountain.
262
Yes, and I am at the bottom.
263
I look up at the top of the mountain and I feel tired.
264
Ah, yes.
265
That is a big problem.
266
So, my next tip is… Yes?
267
…don't look at the top of the mountain.
268
What?
269
But that is the goal.
270
It is.
271
But it is too big.
272
It makes you feel small.
273
Don't look at the top.
274
Just look at your feet.
275
My feet?
276
Yes.
277
Look at the next step.
278
Just one small step.
279
I don't understand.
280
Okay.
281
Don't say, I must learn all English today.
282
Huh.
283
Impossible.
284
Yes.
285
Don't say, I must study for five hours.
286
That is too big.
287
Yes.
288
I am too busy.
289
Instead, say, Today, I will learn two new words.
290
Two words?
291
Just two?
292
Yes.
293
Two words is perfect.
294
I can do that.
295
Dog and cat.
296
Good job.
297
Or say, today I will listen to one English song.
298
One song?
299
That's easy.
300
That's three minutes.
301
Yes.
302
Or, today I will watch one Mr. English podcast episode.
303
A very good idea.
304
Yes, small steps every day.
305
This is how you change your life.
306
You know, this makes me think of a small story.
307
Ooh, a story?
308
Tell me.
309
There was a man.
310
He wanted to build a very big, beautiful, long wall.
311
Okay, a big wall.
312
He looked at the big empty space.
313
He thought, I can never build this wall.
314
It is too much work.
315
He was very sad.
316
Oh no, the stuck mindset.
317
Yes, but then his wise old friend came.
318
Hello, wise friend.
319
And the friend said, you are right.
320
You cannot build this big wall.
321
What?
322
That is not helpful.
323
The friend said, do not try to build a wall.
324
But I want the wall.
325
The friend said, just look at this one brick.
326
One brick.
327
Yes.
328
Your job today is not to build a wall.
329
Your job today is to lay one brick perfectly.
330
Just one brick?
331
Yes.
332
So the man did.
333
He laid one brick.
334
It was perfect.
335
And the next day?
336
He laid one more brick perfectly.
337
And the next day?
338
One more brick.
339
And after many, many days?
340
He had his big, beautiful, long wall.
341
Paul, that is a perfect story.
342
He did not build a wall.
343
He just laid one brick every day.
344
So our two new words.
345
That is our one brick.
346
Yes, our one song.
347
That is our one brick.
348
Wow.
349
We are not learning English today we are just laying one brick.
350
Yes.
351
And soon we will look back and see a beautiful wall.
352
Paul, I feel so motivated.
353
Me too.
354
I want to go lay a brick.
355
Yes.
356
This is the growing mindset.
357
It is not about being perfect today today.
358
It is about being a little better than yesterday.
359
Yes, it is about the journey.
360
Wow, Emily.
361
This was a great chat.
362
It was.
363
And look at the time.
364
It went so fast.
365
Time flies when you are laying bricks.
366
Yes.
367
So, So, let's remember our three big ideas for a growing mindset.
368
Okay.
369
Idea number one.
370
Change your stuck thoughts to growing thoughts.
371
Yes.
372
I am bad is stuck.
373
I am learning is growing.
374
Idea number two.
375
Use the magic word. Yet.
376
I am not good yet.
377
I love that.
378
Me too.
379
And idea number three?
380
Mistakes are our friends.
381
They are like falling when we learn to walk.
382
It is okay.
383
Yes.
384
And our bonus idea?
385
Don't build the wall.
386
Just lay one brick.
387
Take one small step every day.
388
That was great.
389
Thank you, Paul.
390
Thank you, Emily.
391
And thank you, everyone, for listening to us.
392
Yes.
393
Thank you so much.

402
Oh, I love that question.
403
Yes!
404
What one small English thing will you do today?
405
Maybe you will write one comment in English.
406
That is a perfect brick.
407
Yes!
408
We love reading your comments.
409
We do.
410
Thank you all so much for listening.
