Hello, everyone, and welcome back to English Cozy Chat,
2
a slow English podcast which helps you to learn English in a fun and natural way.
3
I'm Maria, and today I am extra happy, and I wanted to tell you all why.
4
But before we get started, as always, of course I have to have my cozy drink.
5
I hope you guys have one too.
6
But today, mine is just a simple coffee.
7
And I have been using this insulated cup recently,
8
because sometimes when I use a regular coffee mug,
9
my coffee gets cold quickly and I like my coffee really really hot
10
so I'm in a phase where I'm drinking out of this cup it's not quite as cozy
11
because there's something really cozy about a nice coffee cup,
12
but I like how this is very functional and keeps my coffee very hot. So cheers.
13
All right, so I'll start with a little story.
14
On Saturday night, I went to a fun dance performance show with a friend of mine
15
and we went to get dinner afterwards.
16
And when I was at dinner, I realized that I did not have my wallet.
17
My wallet that has my ID,
18
my credit card, my money, everything, all of my identification,
19
things that I need are in that wallet.
20
And I realized I didn't have it.
21
So on Sunday, I spent the whole day looking for my wallet,
22
thinking about my wallet
23
and where it could be the thought of losing your wallet is
24
so frustrating because your wallet has everything you need in it
25
and even though I didn't have much money in there the part that frustrates me more is having to cancel my cards
26
try to get a new id card
27
which here in spain can take a long time i also had my united states driver's license
28
and so all of this i thought oh gosh this is going to take so much time and be very annoying.
29
And just, it made me mad at myself that I lost my wallet.
30
So I then began to retrace my steps.
31
And when you retrace your steps,
32
that means you think back or physically go back to the places you were before
33
and in my case to try to find something
34
but to retrace your steps is to go back to where you were before maybe
35
you're just kind of thinking about it
36
or you're actually going back to the places where you were before
37
so in my mind I was retracing my steps thinking where was the last time I had my wallet
38
and I realized that on Friday I went to the post office to pick up a package
39
and I showed my ID and then I put it back in my purse
40
and that was the last time that I had seen it.
41
But after the post office, I also went to a few other places.
42
But now that I can pay with my phone, I don't take out my wallet so often.
43
I usually pay with my phone.
44
And for that reason, my wallet usually stays in my bag.
45
So yesterday I was...
46
looking everywhere in the house
47
because I had a feeling had a feeling inside I thought it's at my house I
48
and I am the type of person to leave things in
49
random places like some people are very good about always putting things in a certain place
50
and knowing where everything is and I'm not that kind of person.
51
I'm like leaving something over here and I leave something over there.
52
And as much as I want to not be like that, I am.
53
And I try to get better.
54
I do.
55
I try.
56
But the truth is, I tend to do that quite often.
57
I just will leave my phone in a really random place or just things like that.
58
So yesterday I was so worried.
59
I was thinking about this a million times.
60
And I was also mad at myself.
61
Like, why did you leave your wallet somewhere?
62
Why can't you just keep up with your things?
63
And I was just frustrated with myself.
64
And so this morning, I went back to the post office and to the other places where I went on Friday.
65
And I asked, have you found a wallet?
66
Have you found a wallet?
67
And I thought, I don't think anyone would steal it because I live in a pretty safe place, I think.
68
And there was no money in there.
69
And I had checked my credit card transactions online.
70
No one had used it.
71
And no one had seen the wallet.
72
So I went to the police office and I filed a police report.
73
That's what you are supposed to do if you lose something valuable.
74
And here, if you need to order a new ID card,
75
you have to have a police report to say that something has been lost or stolen.
76
So I spent 30 minutes or 45 minutes at the police office talking about my wallet
77
and and they gave me an official report.
78
And then I came home.
79
And when I came home, I told my husband, I cannot find it.
80
It's nowhere in town.
81
And I filed a police report.
82
And he said, okay, like, where did you put your bag when you came in?
83
What did you do?
84
And he asking me some questions.
85
And he also did this yesterday, but he asked me more questions today.
86
And then I just went in my closet and I reached in a coat pocket and pulled out my wallet.
87
It was in one of my coat pockets.
88
And I don't know why I had it in that coat pocket.
89
I don't know.
90
I was wearing that coat when I went to pick up my kids, but I don't know why I had my wallet in my pocket.
91
See, that's me.
92
I put things in weird places for no reason.
93
Anyway, I pulled it all out and I was like, I have it.
94
And it was just the best feeling.
95
And I'm still feeling really happy about this.
96
And I found it interesting because before finding my wallet, I thought, I just didn't feel good.
97
And I was just, I felt blah.
98
I felt like I had no energy.
99
I was like tired.
100
I was annoyed.
101
And the second I found my wallet, I was like, wow, and everything.
102
And I'm happy about everything. And it's just funny.
103
I find it funny how certain things can just completely change your energy for the day.
104
If you get good news of something,
105
if something good happens, it can just all of a sudden you have energy.
106
You feel full of life.
107
You feel good, right?
108
Also the same if something bad happens.
109
All of a sudden, you're tired, you're upset, you're mad.
110
And I'm actually reading a book right now called The Untethered Soul.
111
And it talks about this.
112
It talks about how you can
113
tap into this happy energy and always have it available
114
and you can have it even if something great doesn't particularly happen
115
but you have this energy inside
116
and you just need to know how to get to it how to access it and just to give you this happiness.
117
So I definitely don't really know how to do that yet.
118
But this situation today about how one moment completely made me so happy and feel great,
119
feel great about the day.
120
I was like, today's a great day.
121
It's going to be a great week.
122
You know, all of a sudden I'm just happy, right?
123
And it made me think about this book.
124
I thought, hey, that would be very good to be able to always access that happiness,
125
that energy, and to just have that, to have that give you life, right?
126
So that's my happiness story.
127
And I guess there are some other things that I am pretty excited about.
128
This past weekend, I made panayets.
129
Panayets are a typical Catalan sweet.
130
It's a dessert that they have during the fall.
131
And it is a tradition here in Catalonia to make and to eat panellets.
132
They are small and round and they are really fun to make.
133
You have a dough and you roll it into balls.
134
And then you put different toppings on them
135
and I made these this weekend with my kids
136
and it was really fun making these
137
and I also just feel good about making them
138
because since I live in Spain and I don't live in the United States where I'm from.
139
I think it's important to try to incorporate the culture
140
and to try to do things that local people here do
141
because I think it helps you to understand the culture more and the people.
142
And, you know, making these panayets was really fun.
143
Plus, they're really delicious, really good.
144
And just making them kind of helps me to understand people here more like,
145
wow, these are really fun to make, you know, you make all the balls, put the toppings, they're pretty, they're delicious.
146
And they're pretty easy.
147
It's I also feel good my girls who, you know, they're also not like locals here, can go to school and say,
148
hey, I made panayets at home.
149
I want them to also be doing everything that their local friends do.
150
And it makes me feel good.
151
So I guess that's another thing that I'm happy about.
152
And trust me, I don't always feel happy like this.
153
You know, there are many days.
154
In fact, the past two weeks, I have felt very low energy.
155
I have been quite sick, not feeling well.
156
And during these past two weeks that I've been feeling quite sick,
157
I've been still working so hard to get this five day shadowing challenge together been working so hard on it.
158
It's really important for me that this shadowing challenge comes out good.
159
Five days of practicing your speaking.
160
And I am really doing my best to make it the best possible.
161
And I hope you guys really enjoy that.
162
Actually, to be honest, the past couple of episodes were a little bit hard for me to film
163
because I was not feeling great.
164
But I filmed them anyway.
165
But, yeah, I guess also it's another thing to think about like with
166
if you don't ever feel down
167
or not good then you can't really feel really good you have to have one to have the other right
168
so I'm just thankful that I'm in at least one day where I'm feeling very good.
169
And I really hope that you guys also have a good positive day and a good week.
170
And I hope this video or this podcast has just helped you to at least think about having a positive energy.
171
And I really hope that something good happens to you all today.
172
So thank you all so much for watching and we will see you in the next episode.
173
Bye!
