Hello, everyone, and welcome back to English Cozy Chat,
2
a slow English podcast which helps you to learn English in a fun and natural way.
3
I'm Maria, and today we are going to talk about what I've been doing this week.
4
My week started in a pretty interesting way because I went on a walk outside my house,
5
which I do every day, and I saw that at one part of my street,
6
there were hundreds of goats.
7
I was so surprised by this because I don't live near any kind of farm
8
and there are not usually any animals like this near where I live.
9
These goats were seriously so cute and for me it was
10
so surprising to see them there but as you all know goats are great climbers
11
and some of them were climbing on the mountains and the hills that were there nearby.
12
I love watching how they can stand on little bitty rocks and keep their balance.
13
It was quite a hot day when I was there
14
and all of these goats were crowded around some shade just to keep cool
15
but they were so cute really cuddled up together and they all just look so nice and cozy.
16
Also, there were a group of little baby goats, you guys.
17
They were so adorable and they were all there together.
18
The man that was with them said that they had just been born a few weeks ago.
19
So they were really small and really sweet.
20
There were also some dogs there that were to protect them
21
and it was really neat seeing these dogs interact with the goats.
22
So then I came to find out why these goats were actually there
23
and my town is doing an initiative that is to help prevent forest fires.
24
So to help keep forest fires from happening.
25
And what they do is in areas that are in the forest
26
or near the forest that have lots of greenery
27
or dead grass and trees or bushes or shrubs that that need to be cleared out,
28
they will put goats there and the goats eat everything
29
that could really potentially help these forest fires to form or to spread.
30
So these goats are staying where I live, or not where I live,
31
but close to where I live for a full two weeks.
32
And then they will go to another place.
33
I think this is a really interesting way to help prevent
34
forest fires it's really neat to see this wildlife by my house and just to see all of these goats together.
35
The man that is their owner told me that there are more than 300 goats all there together.
36
This week this was really something really special
37
that I have never seen before and that for me was just really cool to see near my house.
38
The other day I did something really fun to go meet some friends.
39
A lot of times when we go meet friends we simply go to a restaurant
40
but the other day my friend asked me to meet feeds them in a park and to have a picnic there.
41
And at first I thought a picnic, a park, okay.
42
We just never do that.
43
But really it was so much fun.
44
We brought big blankets to lay out and everyone brought some food
45
and we just sat there and ate our food and talked.
46
We also threw a frisbee which was really fun and it was really just an enjoyable day.
47
To be honest, I would much rather do that than to go to a restaurant for a few reasons.
48
One, it is nice to be outside, especially when it's nice weather.
49
Two, it's cheaper.
50
Going to a restaurant costs money,
51
and it was nice to just all bring our own food and to enjoy a nice lunch that way.
52
I just like being in a park environment which is nice and green.
53
I like to see other people just hanging out and relaxing and it was really just a very different experience for me.
54
Now many of you may go to parks very often
55
and that's something that you like doing but honestly up until now I haven't really done it so much.
56
So I think that will be something that I really try to start doing more of in the future.
57
And this week, I also started going to physio or physiotherapy,
58
or it's also called physical therapy.
59
Either way,
60
this is a place to go when you have some kind of injury or if something is hurting or something like that.
61
And I am going because some of you may remember,
62
but in an episode that I posted back in February,
63
I think, I explained that I had had an injury in my leg, in my quadriceps.
64
I heard it when I was working out at the beginning of the year,
65
and it honestly has just really not healed properly and is still bothering me and it is now September.
66
So I am going to start going to the physio,
67
physiotherapist, to do exercises and treatments and everything like that to really try to make my leg better.
68
And also, I have a shoulder injury that first happened about nine years ago
69
when I fell off of my bike with my arm outstretched.
70
I hurt my shoulder and my elbow
71
and then I also used to play a lot of volleyball
72
and that also hurt it and now it has started to hurt me again.
73
So I have injuries in both my shoulder and my leg
74
and now I'm going to start going to the physiotherapist twice
75
a week for one hour each session to really try to get better.
76
So I will let you all know how that goes and if it starts working for me.
77
This week has also been back to school.
78
So I have started teaching my English classes again, which I have really been enjoying.
79
I realized that I really kind of missed having my classes over the summer.
80
Of course, it's always good to have a break,
81
but it's always nice to come back and start fresh in the new year.
82
So that has felt really good.
83
So that is what I have been doing this week.
84
Let me know what have you been doing this week.
85
I'll see you guys in the next one.
86
Bye.
