49
life thank you wow this is definitely not an ordinary flight
50
i'm looking forward to my first pandan flight experience hi my
51
name is anthony todd i'd like to welcome you to the Pan Am experience.
52
We're about to board a vintage Pan Am 747 restored from the 1970s
53
and replicate what it was like to fly Pan Am back in the era.
54
Come aboard and I'll show you exactly what I'm talking about.
55
You're now standing in a completely replicated version of a Pan Am 747 -200 back in the 1970s.
56
This is actually my favorite zone of the 747
57
and we've actually restored every single thing this airplane to look
58
exactly like it did on pan am back in the era
59
even the seat fabric has been replicated to look exactly like how pan am's first cut seat fabric looked
60
and the curtains the wallpapers even the wallpaper on the sidewalk
61
panels all restored to look exactly like pan am back in
62
the era we're now in what pan am referred to as clipper class
63
and a lot of people don't realize it
64
but it was actually the very first version of business class
65
that existed clipper class came in a lot of different forms
66
and the era that i chose to replicate was actually the 80s
67
and so this seat fabric this light blue with these nickel sized globes were meant to reflect the sun
68
and the moon eclipse
69
and i love again how they put thought into even the
70
seat fabric on pan am these were my favorite headrests of the time period too
71
and so i replicated all these it looked just like it did
72
when i was a kid let's go up the winding staircase
73
on the 747 this was actually exclusively for the people who bought tickets in the first -class cabin and
74
so Pan Am used this upper deck as a lounge just
75
after takeoff the cabin crew would invite any interested passengers seated
76
in the first -class cabin to come up here to the upper deck lounge
77
and drinks were served up here passengers could smoke and play cards
78
but about an hour and a half into the flight this would actually turned into a dining room.
79
And so first -class passengers on Pan Am actually had a choice to dine either downstairs in the nose
80
or up here in the upper deck.
81
And it always worked out because some passengers just wanted to stay downstairs
82
and others wanted to be up here in the social environment
83
and so they would open up these tables
84
and literally lay down white table linen and china
85
and serve a five course gourmet meal
86
and that's what we're going to replicate tonight the experience of
87
what it was like to fly on this magnificent airline known as pan am right here at the panam experience
88
I'm a captain, a captain doesn't need a boarding pass, I can sit anywhere I want, right?
89
I have tremendous luck tonight, I have a beautiful young lady sitting next to me, so they gave captain the best seat.
90
On behalf of myself and the entire crew, we would like to welcome you on board this Pan Am 747 jet clipper.
91
All of your carry -on items shall be securely stowed underneath the seat in front of you or in the overhead bins, making the aisles clear at all times.
92
We will show you how to fasten a seat belt.
93
Take the metal end and insert it in through the buckle.
94
Tighten by pulling on the strap.
95
To unlatch the seat belt, simply lift the buckle.
96
Unless we have an earthquake tonight, you shouldn't expect any movement of the aircraft, so your seat belt isn't really that necessary.
97
In the event of one of our stewardesses supposed water on you, or you personally drink too much, and having an inflatable vest around your neck seems like a
98
good solution this is how you would wear it despite all of
99
that the life vest is pretty much useless here
100
because there is no reason any of you will actually need
101
to float in this airplane as your pan am experience begins we invite you to sit back relax
102
and enjoy the hospitality quality and service in traditional Pan Am style.
103
Oh my god, this is like the original Pan Am.
104
They're not that old, they're new.
105
Cocktail menu?
106
Thank you.
107
Hi folks, can I interest anyone in some light reading?
108
We have People magazine, if anyone's interested.
109
Yeah, oh yeah, we have a taker, alright.
110
I wonder what's gonna happen in Moscow.
111
Whoever.
112
USSR, right?
113
Sam, may I offer you a cigarette tonight?
114
Usually I don't smoke, but...
115
Well, this is more of a Hollywood cigarette.
116
Hollywood cigarette.
117
Yeah, I think you'll find it much to your liking.
118
This is what people do back in the 70s, flying here in the smoking row.
119
Enjoy a fine cigar and a cocktail.
120
Would you care for a hot towel?
121
Thank you.
122
Hot towel for you?
123
Is this the menu today? Of course.
124

130
It has Pan American logo everywhere.
131

132
And now it's the caviar portion of our upper deck service.
133
