1
Hello, I'm Aurelie Favier, project manager of this course
2
and I would like to welcome you to Cement Chemistry and Sustainable Cement Tissues Materials.
3
This course will introduce you the basics of cement duration and how to develop and characterize low-carbon cement.
4
It is divided in two main parts.
5
The first part will introduce the sustainability and the chemistry of cement tissue materials during four weeks.
6
The last two weeks will focus on the use of X-ray diffraction for the analysis of low carbon cements.
7
During the first week, Professor Scrivener introduced you to the challenges facing research and development of cement.
8
It will detail the viable solution to meet the ecological challenges and growing demand for building materials.
9
In week two, we will begin the courses on hydration of cement.
10
You will learn how evolves the microstructure and the consequence on the properties at short, medium and long term.
11
To complete the course on hydration, Week 3 will be devoted for tutorial of the use of
12
scanning electron microscopy on polished surface to characterize the cement during hydration.
13
The first video will explain how to stop hydration, prepare and polish sample for microscopy.
14
Then the second tutorial will show how to use a SCM to identify the phases and quantify them.
15
The last week of the first part will detail the different kinetics of cement hydration
16
and will be illustrated with a tutorial on isothermal calorimetry to monitor the progress of a reaction.
17
Finally, the two last week will focus on the use of X3 diffraction to characterize enhydrocements, hydrated phases and supplementary cement issues materials.
18
You will find different demonstration videos to illustrate the data acquisition, phases identifications and quantification that we've implemented.
19
Throughout this course, we will find quizzes, exercises, documents and complementary links.
20
as well as videos on the development of Lampstone Calcene clay cements called LC3.
21
The whole team thank you for your participation and wish you a good time with us.

cement sustantivo/səˈmɛnt/cemento
hydration sustantivo/haɪˈdɹeɪʃən/hidratación
characterize verbo/ˈkɛɹəktəɹaɪz/caracterizar
tutorial sustantivo/ˌtjuːˈtɔːɹɪəl/tutoría, tutorial
diffraction sustantivo/dɪˈfɹækʃən/difracción
microscopy sustantivo/maɪˈkɹɑ.skə.pi/microscopia, microscopía
illustrate verbo/ˈɪl.əˌstɹeɪt/ilustrar
calorimetry sustantivocalorimetría
hydrate sustantivo/haɪˈdɹeɪt/hidrato
kinetics sustantivo/kɪˈnɛt.ɪks/cinética

complementary adjetivo/ˌkɑmplɪˈmɛnt(ə)ɹi/complementario
sustainability sustantivo/səˌsteɪnəˈbɪlɪti/sostenibilidad, sustentabilidad

Pronunciación a tener en cuenta

  • Los sonidos de “sh” y “zh”: hydration /haɪˈdɹeɪʃən/, diffraction /dɪˈfɹækʃən/, quantification /ˌkwɒn.tɪˌfɪˈkeɪ.ʃən/, demonstration /dɛmənˈstɹeɪʃən/
  • Palabras largas — cuida el acento: characterize /ˈkɛɹəktəɹaɪz/, microscopy /maɪˈkɹɑ.skə.pi/, quantification /ˌkwɒn.tɪˌfɪˈkeɪ.ʃən/, complementary /ˌkɑmplɪˈmɛnt(ə)ɹi/, sustainability /səˌsteɪnəˈbɪlɪti/

Sonidos difíciles para hispanohablantes:

  • /v/ — no es /b/: los dientes tocan el labio inferior: devote /dɪˈvəʊt/, evolve /ɪˈvɑlv/, viable /ˈvaɪəbəl/
  • /z/ — sonora, no /s/: characterize /ˈkɛɹəktəɹaɪz/, quiz /kwɪz/
  • /h/ — una aspiración suave, no la “j”: hydration /haɪˈdɹeɪʃən/, hydrate /haɪˈdɹeɪt/

Cómo practicar con este vídeo
